5/5-5/6 Temecula to Ridgecrest in the dirt....mostly
556baller replied to RobATK94's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
Very cool ride, it was one of those rides where your laughing all the time. I live for those moments, with friends. In hindsight, the most dangerous part was staying the night in Barstow... -
Titus Canyon is really good, Stripped Butte is also really neat. As you come into the Panamint Valley from Trona, Ballarat is a cool stop, from there head up Wildrose canyon to the Charcoal Kilns, from there; up over Emigrant Pass to Stove Pipe Wells. That section has awesome scenic views with wild life on most days.

King of the Motos
556baller replied to kkug's topic in Off-Road Racing Events, Discussions, Rally Racing, Info, etc.
I spent years crawling at the the Hammers, and racing class 10 in that area. I can't imagine riding a moto on those trails. -
jawbone/dove/Red Rock canyon/Onyx/Aquaduct 2 ?
556baller replied to MacDuncan's topic in Important Contact & Info for Riding Areas
Looks like some rain this coming weekend. However, snow seems to have melted. East of 14 has miles of open desert, there's a map for that area made by, "Friends of Jawbone Canyon. Tons of cool stuff, like plane crashes, weird desert type stuff. Haven't done much of the eastern sections, but I hear it is really good. -
jawbone/dove/Red Rock canyon/Onyx/Aquaduct 2 ?

I have a GPS route for McIvers Cabin in that area. I live pretty close to that area now, Ridgecrest. -
Here's one thing I would consider, when the 1190 was getting ready to hit the market I couldn't wait to go check one out. My wife is a moto junkie, she was possibly more into the idea of an 1190 than I was. Long story short, I thought the 1190 was a nothing like a 990 so I never gave it a second thought. Fast forward a few years, my wife and I are the KTM Adventure Rally in Deadwood SD and nearly everyone is sporting the 1190. Still the 1190 doesn't do anything for me, until I spend the weekend riding with some pros and they are riding 1190's. The 1190 is a solid bike and seeing what it can actually do blew my mind. I watched guys whipping around them like they were riding trails bikes.

I wonder if its a 660?
-
I wanted a 640 Adventure but went with a 10' 990 Adv. I thought a 640 might not be enough bike with gear and 2 up. The two best things I've done to it was have the suspension redone, and add a second fan. I'm up in the high desert now were all there is to do is ride. I have a pretty good list of mods but the suspension was an absolute game changer, and the fan was necessary because it's 110+ degrees here during the summer.

I'm looking at picking up a second bike and I've been looking at the KTM 500exc and the Beta 500rs. I'm up in the High Desert doing some work for awhile so there is actually more dirt than pavement. I've redone my 990 for the occasion and its fun but for what I'm throwing at it I've decided to get second bike more purpose built. The guys racing D37 out here really like the Beta brand. Any Beta riders in here? http://www.betausa.com/content/500-rs-0

Awesome, my step son said the same about Nick Burnson. I'm curious about the 2016 FI and various upgrades to the line up, there is almost no price difference between 2014-2016. There are still 2014's sitting on the show rooms with zero miles. Beta addressed some of the noted issues like a weak charging system which left the battery dead after a few starts.

It was probably the Hipster thing, I'm pretty much a hater. I'm sure I will attempt to watch it again. I did just start watching "Race to Dakar" on youtube. Those guys are bunch of wankers!

Goggles to fit the Shoei Hornet DS helmet
556baller replied to Dan Diego's topic in Equipment & Technical Forum
I run a Shoei DS with Oakleys goggles. I like it better than sunglass, at some point my sunglasses stopped being adequate and my eyes started watering like crazy. -
Rotella T6 has been working pretty well in my 990.

I live in Oceanside and its a garbage dump. When ever I'm about to leave my helmet on my bike I get a mental picture of a homeless guy riding a razor scooter down the street with a Shoei Hornet/Scala set up. People around here take full advantage of all targets of opportunity...

How do you like the GS?

They couldn't have picked a better piece of crap van. The Toyota Hi-Ace has a factory ice maker option and even came with 4WD one year...

New rider in Oceanside – Need some advice

I've hauled my 990 in my X-Cab Tacoma a few times, no worries. -

I've been following this for week or so, it's heating up. It has little to do with turtles or cattle. -
Tire Change in North County?
556baller replied to mtnmanseth's topic in Motorcycle Shops - Discussion
I've been using Oceanside Cycle Supply. Nice people, I purchased parts, gear, and had tires mounted by them. You can also use Cycle Gear in San Marcos, the staff knows their stuff and then some. -
This is my person recommendation... http://www.ftfindustries.com/category/37MM.html
