  1. Kevin Merlo, These were my stats from last year. 450 with a trials tire, 6 gal tank, 2 gal of spare fuel on my back, water and all the repair crap that you may need. Keep in mind that they have more than enough gas stops. I was just using the ride as training for something else. odo: 210 Time: 9hrs 12min (elapsed not just moving) Moving Avg: 24.3 Stopped: 33min Lots of awesome people out there. You will love the course. Advice would be to NOT sit on someones wheel. It's dusty and rocky and sitting on a wheel will likely cost you more energy than if you just let them go ahead a bit. It will be dusty no matter what, but the thick stuff is blinding. One other tip... Just because there are 45 dudes pushing and smashing away on a line does not mean there is not a better choice right next to it. You would be amazed at the tunnel vision that happens up there. You will see...unless you're one of those 45... Ride YOUR ride. Enjoy Sicvic
  2. Gnar gnar... Ahaaaa-naaaah-muuuahl???? Secret to trip=having no brain.
  3. The bike should be picked up this week and start inching its way across the U.S; final destination, Wilmington, NC. Today I did a final check to make sure I have the right stuff going and the right stuff staying. No doubt I'll F something up. I also weighed the gear .... Here are the final numbers. Weight on body: 41 lbs This is riding gear and whatever I'm carrying on person. Weight on bike: 41 lbs This is anything packed on the bike. Camp, tools, tubes.... This does not include food, water or extra fuel. I have the option to carry an extra 2 gal of fuel. 12 lbs I have 170oz max capacity of water. 9 lbs This makes my min weight at 82 lbs and the max at about 105 lbs. (only plan to have the 2 gal extra gas three times)*long legs* Is what it is. Here's a pic of everything. Looks light(ish) in the picture huh???? Sending out one group THANK YOU to everyone who posted up and to those who helped me leading up to this. (called me crazy) Should be pretty cool. Looking forward to the challenges, serenity, wind, sunrise, sunsets, stream crossings (little ones), sleeping in ditches, alien probing and Sasquatch sightings. OH MAN! SV

  7. I had such good luck with it last year I figured why switch when something already works. Thanks
  8. Well the bike is shipping to Wilmington, NC and I'll meet it there. From there I ride up to Jacksonville, NC and from there I'll start the TAT (TransAmerica Trail) *GPSKEVIN version* I'll ride the TAT out to the Continental Divide and take that north. When I hit WY I'll skirt over to Idaho and do the Tour Of Idaho again. Skirting across WA near Canada I'll start the WABDR (Washington Back Country Discovery) and take that down to Portland, OR There I'll meet a couple guys who are riding the ORBDR and I'll ride along with them until I cross the TAT again. TAT back to the Conti Divide this time going South to the Mexico Boarder. From there I skirt along the Boarder in AZ and jump on the El Camino del Diablo into Yuma. From there I'll putt Anza to the 79 then home. Screen shot. Also has West Coast bail out routes.

  13. Keep an eye out for all us yahoos stumbling around on Old Hwy 80 by Boulder Oaks Campground about a mile before Buckman Springs. 50 Miler race on the PCT Saturday. Start at Campground at 0500. You could see us all along Sunrise Hwy if you look to the North side. Course ends right on the 80 so after 12 hrs of running some pretty dumb things could happen there near the campground. Thanks for looking out and have a ripper ride.

Hello all, Been browsing over on XChange but also wanted to check here as well. What I'm looking for are tracks from Antelope Wells,NM (end of the CD) back here to San Diego. This is basicaly the bottom of AZ, East to West. I may go into Mexico and ride the 2 West for awhile then pop back into the US in Douglas, AZ. (or be detained again...) Trying to aviod Freeway. Not looking for your favorite death ride tracks either. It will be in the 100's I'm sure; may have to ride at night. Something in the mid skill level range would be perfect. So: South AZ (east side) back to here. Looking for some help. CDaddy, KKug, Kato, Goof, Straga, tlking6, CID ?????? Calling all heavy hitters to the microphone. I know some ya'll bust ur ass to make these tracks. Respect. SV Scortched Vic
  18. With the excitement of the upcoming Hard Way ride, and for the ride I'm working on this summer I've not been out on the Moto much. The 50 mile run is next weekend; training for that, working on routes, and planning has comsumed all my time. The downside of all this; I know some of you are missing the SicVic stories. Today while looking for some tracks for the Mangler I found this gem in the library. It gets me excited for my annual Emergency Room visit. Generally this happens right about the month of July. Give or take. Enjoy today; tomorrow may never make it. Now go fall off a Mountain http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7Kzj43V2Uw

The final word when getting a Permit in Ajo is.... A flag is required along with the permit plus watching a safety movie. Also have to call BG Range and advise them of your permit number and licence number. That's the deal. It was also advised to "carry" while crossing.
  20. Good thing that rock was there or Ida never got stopped!
  21. I was just checking this thing out online yesterday. I like the looks and operation of it. I decided in order to save money I'd just use the ktm orange gaffer tape Rigga has, and tape her wide open. Either on; or off. That's all you need.

Great information. Researching it now. I did find this today while trying to find flag answers. http://www.peakbagging.com/CabezaPrieta/CabezaPrietaRegs.pdf Do you have new information or know someone who has rode it lately and NOT had to use a flag? I know they lifted the banned dates for the ProngHorns. I have a POC at Ajo and was going to call her tomorrow for the skinny on the flag.

YES... Please PM me an address. I plan on getting the bike serviced in Tucson @ Permormance Cycle Center on September 9th. I hope to have that finished by noon at the latest so I can still make it to Ajo, AZ in time to watch the video and get my permits to cross the Diablo. If this all goes as planned I will hit the trail early the morning of the 10th and will be at your place later that afternoon. What's your knowledge of flag requirements for the Diablo?? I called them last week but the lady was not there who had this information. I will call her tomorrow but was just wondering if you have the details. If I do; that's another hoop I'll have to jump through on the 9th. Hope she says plated vehicles don't require one....but I think I know what the answer will be. Thanks for the information and your hospitality. Vic

Agreed. I figure a good fallout would be the Intro State Freeway to the North. I have have a Maint stop planned at a Moto shop in Tucson prior to hitting Ajo, AZ and the El Camino del Diablo route. I also have 2 alternate routes avail once I reach Oregon. Anything MAJOR that goes wrong between North Carolina to Colorado up to Canada will result in an "abort mission". The correction factor that early in the ride would be too much to overcome. (I feel) My plans have plans; this always changes once you're in the fight.

It will be hot for sure! This will be one of the first times I'm in a place that everyone is armed; EXCEPT for me. It will be amazing if I make it that far. More amazing if I make it across. From what I understand, there are graves along the Diablo route for those who did not. They say that the majority of them are in the last 30 miles. That place is no joke. Working on my permits now.
