Sunday ride out to Santiago Peak...
Czechsix replied to Czechsix's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
Lots of pavement miles, coming in from Vista. But once you get up to the North Divide side, there are something like 70 miles? of dirt to play around in. On this route I'm going to estimate I did 35-40 miles worth. I need to DL the track file, but I'm having issues with the USB on my ancient adding machine, might have to spring for a new version or build another before I can get the track file. But there are good tracks on the other thread posted by someone. I'll be going again, that's for sure, but it's not a hard ride, other than distance, and seats that feel like 4x4's after 150 miles. -

Yep, just have to DL them and clean it up a bit...some, uh, unintended side trips there I can shoot you a .gpx file once it's done, if you'd like. I might post it up on some other sites too, come to think of it. The Tenaja TT is obviously getting lots of traffic, it was pretty dusted, and lots of 4x4 tracks on it, not many bikes though. I saw maybe one or two other knobbies that had been on it. -
North County ride anyone?
Czechsix replied to RS9904's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
I'm not gonna make it today. I'm getting married! A I doubt I'll be coherent tomorrow. Possibly during the week sometime? I'm gonna shoot for 0900-0930, and I'll be in the parking lot of the De Luz preserve, the hiking and equestrian parking lot. It's only a couple miles north of Fallbrook, right down the slope...if someone wants to ride a bit later, I'm up for that too, just let me know. * Take East Mission Road to De Luz Road, go north, away from downtown Fallbrook; * At the Y with Sandia Creek Road, stay left on De Luz Road; * Pull into the preserve just a few hundred feet past the intersection with Sandia Creek Road, on the right-hand side of De Luz Road. Anyone wants to holler at me, for coordination or harassment, 760-716-3147 is the mobile. -

Yep, looking like Sunday. I might even get that sticking throttle cable fixed for the ride. Or not. Much more exciting that way! -

I'll probably be doing a ride tomorrow, Saturday. Or maybe Sunday. Deluz up Tenaja TT to Wildomar, and then North Divide area. Anyone else interested? I'll be on an XR400. -

Morning looked way too crappy and cold, so I worked on a garage and shop clean out, much more entertaining than I thought it would be...kinda like Christmas today. Had no idea I had some of this stuff LOL. I'll try and head out next Sunday, I'll post up midweek, but a ride out to Wildomar and points North via De Luz would be nice. -

Check out this map link: http://dig-dug.com/files/html/FallbrookCoronaGoogleMap.html The red track at the bottom is from fallbrook, up tenaja truck trail (Tenaja is dirt) From there, the orange track is a spur up Margarita Peak. The yellow track is a short road to meet up with the Cleveland national forest road and South Main Divide up to Ortega Highway and Hells Kitchen. the blue and purple tracks are alternate ways up there but less dirt and less scenic roads. the tracks north of Ortega are all fun but you have to check the gate status with the National Forest. Here is a link to those tracks in garmin gdb format. http://dig-dug.com/files/GPS/FallbrookCorona.gdb Yep, take DD's red route, it's the most interesting. There's an ongoing thread on ADV about cleveland access, what gates are open, etc....might want to check that out. It's in the "regional" forum, california section. -

Yep, same route I'm talking about, most of it is road, but there is some fun dirt road too. Nothing technical. No singletrack. I usually come back the same way, back down into Fallbrook, but I've also taken the Pala route. Pyro put up the entire route, but the gist of the run is you want to start at that wye in Deluz and head North. If you take a look at it, you'll see you can head East and then cut North past the ecoreserve, but that's all slab miles, and well traveled roads. Still a nice ride. Here's a track I took.... http://g.co/maps/ky4q3 -
North County ride anyone?
Czechsix replied to RS9904's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
Yes, kinda. It gets a bit confusing though, when you go down to deluz area. You basically want to bear left, but there's also a way to take that gets you past the ecological preserve, and it's almost all road. There's another way that's a truck trail, more of an interesting ride, but harder to find. Oh yeah, other thing I wanted to add is you'll probably see "no trespassing" "road not open" etc signs on Tenaja, if you go that way. Everything I've seen about those signs is they're illegally placed by the local neighbours to keep traffic out of their area, the TT is still a legal throughway. -
If it's a loose connection, probably an easy fix. Don't have the VX-7r handy right now, but I'm thinking it's the same contact system, I'll have to take a look at it tomorrow.

WOW! Now that's some cool stuff, thanks for posting. I've got a buddy that does networking for the TED talks, I'll have to ask him about this.. Just wait till someone optimizes it for hummingbird style flight!

After that last ride, I'm going to have to find a new mountable GPS. Even after all these years, I still see lots of good reviews on the 60csx, so I'm wondering if there's anything else that's so much better that I shouldn't pull the trigger on a 60csx? Basic requirements are has to be 12v capable, has to be able to accept Topo, has to have decent storage, sunlight viewable, d/l and u/l map data, waterproof or resistant, easy button manipulation while wearing gloves. If anyone's got a used one you're tired of, I'd be up for that too.....

Sigh....76cx at West Marine, 179 smackers on sale. I've gotta go look at a 60 first though. 179 isn't a bad price I'm thinking.

I'll look at the 76 also, then. Definitely going to be a Ram mount, already have a couple of them on there, just need the right adaptor. Thanks for the replies folks, now I need to see where they're on sale, or find a decent used one.

Ah, thanks for the follow up on the Glendale Armenians. When I heard that's who had been caught, I couldn't figure out what they were up to, other than something criminal. I remember reading about the PIN theft rings they're involved in, makes sense now. That area has been a hot spot for organized crime for quite a while. I always look at the card readers to see if they've been tampered with, or have an external addition - but aren't most of them being done internally now, so that you can't tell somethings wrong? Huh. thieves.

this is what'll happen: He'll get your paypal address, and he'll echeck you. You'll see the money "deposited" in your paypal account, and paypal will verify that. His "friend" will come out to pick up the quad, you'll load it up (since the money is in the PP account), and off he goes. Some time later, you'll get a notice from paypal that the payment was not valid - feel free to arbitrate or gripe. Good luck with paypal. Now him and his buddy have the quad. If you call the police to see if they're interested in a sting, you'll be told that until the funds are proven not to exist, there's no theft. Of course, by then the quad is long gone. If you specify that the funds have to be verified, and there's a, say, two month hold on them, I can pretty much guarantee that he'll disappear. Then again, if you live in an out of the way place, and his "friend" comes by to pick up the bike.....(nope, not suggesting anything here. not at all. nope. did I mention how much I hate thieves? I do, I do, I really do. So I'm not sayin' nuthin' more)
