    Memories- Where did everything go.

Born in Bonsall, went to HS at Clairemont, used to ride a Kawasaki F11 through the Clairemont alleys to school. Had some fun...er.....law enforcement shenanigans during some of those rides. Used to ride Rose Canyon out to Miramar NAS and the old Miramar riding areas. Big Oly rocks! Always will!

Sweep at Torrey Pines State Park

Nah, Schwinn, can't lay any claim to surfing. Sea Kayak, yep, but not boarding. I worked in TPSP for a while, cutting trails and doing maintenance. Even then, it was closed, but I remember it from the '70's. Great slot to go through, back when more of the park was open.

Sweep at Torrey Pines State Park

Next time, ask the rangers to go through Fat Man's Misery ...always gets a rise from them lol
  4. Well, plans have changed for me, so I'm shooting out for a short ride at Corral. I'll be in a white F350 crew cab, with a white XR4, white acerbis tank, white helmet, klim gear and a brown gear vest. Out the door in Vista.....right now. Ciao!
  5. Trying to do some legwork here, in advance of the stepson and family coming out in March. We're planning on heading out to Johnson Valley for a few days when they're here, and he mentioned he'd like to ride. I've seen the thread on Academy, so they're out. Who else does it? Other than Baja Bound? I guess it'd be OK if there was someone up in Yucca Valley, Landers, etc.

    Some People Got Big Balls

Well, at least it wasn't staropramen I wouldn't be surprised about the gas being siphoned either, there's a bunch of that going on here in North County. Friend of mine with an auto shop had eleven cars siphoned out, almost empty, last week. In a secured lot, no less.

    Giant Loop Bags

I'll keep you in mind, SCH. No funds now for a bag, but I'll be getting a coyote within the next few months.
  9. Works for me...97 rears it's head again. So other than sweep, for emergency purposes, we'll have ham capable riders on the course too? Or is there decent cell coverage in all parts? I'm going to dig through my boxes and see what I have as loaners, just in case someone needs a temp mobile station. I've got a couple of yaesu's and an icom v8k to spare, for sure.
  10. Meh, holes suck. Been a while since I was at Butterfield. Need to google map some stuff for sure. Problem is, sounds like everyone is not licensed. Guess it could be a formal emergency net for hams to deal with, and then run ride coverage on a simplex freq. I don't think SANDRA or any arc is too happy with unlicensed on their repeaters. Is there a suitable high point for a net control station, that's also easily accessible, but relatively close to the ride location?

    STOLEN: My KTM

Is there a poster or anything that we could print out? I'd be happy to print out and post up some flyers in shops to help spread the word...lots of riders in the friends shop.

    STOLEN: My KTM

Dammit, that sucks. I hate thieves. I'll keep an eye out for it, or parts. Also had a friend lose all his riding gear from his truck last night, thieves hit him too. In a secured lot also.
  13. Out the door for a few days of riding, if anyone's out there I'm on a white XR4, probably wearing a tan tactical vest with all sorts of crap in it, klim pants, white helmet. Have fun folks, Happy New Year!

    The DIP - 12/30 to 1/2/2011

Doh! 6.0! I've got a 7.3 in the truck, always seems to be a a few things that go on with these engines. IAC, have fun out there, I'll be up in Johnson Valley/Landers area. Danged cold up there /hijack
  15. Easiest way to do it automatically is to use a cross band radio as a relay - most commonly used bands are 2m and 440. The one issue is that folks with 440 aren't that common. Plenty of models out there that do cross band capabilities, Yaesu, Icom, Vertex, etc all have them. (I guess I should add that the way a cross band system works is one talks on 2m, and it gets repeated on 440, or vice versa. Not like a regular repeater that receives on 2m on one freq, and re-transmits on 2m on another freq) That's the easy automated (more or less) way, but you can also do it, and sometimes better, by using an operator as a relay. Set up a simple net, one net control in a central location that's line-of-sight to relays that can cover the deadspace, and there you go. If you really want to get a good net going, I can contact ARES, they're always up for practice, and they're emergency communications to begin with, so manpacks, mobile, off grid power is a regular thing for them. I used to be a member, but not for a couple of years now.
  16. I'll be up in Landers/Johnson valley area right around that time. At least that's the plan.

New BLM Permit Requirements for Desert Dash

If you're still looking, let me know, I'll get in contact with a friend up in Temecula that's an EMT instructor, he knows lots of them. Just need a B, right?
  18. Have 2m HT, maybe three or four mobile 2m, HF capable too. Also FRS's, including a mobile FRS rig. Licensed and ready, LMK. ***** if you need to submit that.
  19. I think that there's an apples and oranges discussion going on here. The actual border between the nations, NAFTA, integration of our different nations, etc...doesn't have much to do with the current narco war. Those guys are in it for short and long term gain, in an enterprise that is viewed as illegal and immoral, yet is heavily subsidized on lots of levels by the "official" government. The narcos aren't interested in bringing a war to us - little profit in that, and mucho problema for them. They're interested in protecting their business, but things have gotten so anarchic in the plazas that no one is really sure what's going on. Just that there's lots of shooting. Take a look at Tamaulipas, that place has incredible death rates (latest reports detailed over two hundred sicarios dead in a single fight), and it's in a complete flux right now. IF the reports from some segments were correct, then we'd be seeing wholesale incursions, columns, fighting positions, and dozens or hundreds of deaths per day in the border areas on the US side. Along with many more involved military and LEO forces on our side of the border...but we're not at that point, yet. Probably will never be, unless the narcos can pull off the same thing that they did down south, infiltrating and co-opting the government. But then again, that's Mexico, always has been. They've had a long time to practice that culture, and they've gotten pretty advanced at it. I need more coffee.

    Any Soldier.com

I'd be up for a donation. I normally donate to a more...uh, specialized military organization, but I'm up for a general donation too.
  21. I've got all the pans, sluices, and gold bugs ready....hey, waaait a minute. What kinda prospect we talking about here?
  22. Thanks much for posting that route, I've messed around on DeLuz but haven't made it out to Wildomar yet. It's on the calendar, somewhat.
  23. Compared to most of you guys I probably need training wheels. And I'm allergic to pain. And the sticker on my helmet says "follow me, I'll show you where to crash". Honestly, I have a tough call figuring out where my place is in the hierarchy...somewhere between total noob and intermediate (what's intermediate, anyway?). Definitely not advanced. Longest rides I've done are 140 or so miles in a day, out in Landers area/Johnson Valley, etc. I'm pretty used to sand, doesn't mean I really like it though LOL. There, that should muddy it up
  24. Go ahead and tack me on to standby. I can also help with radio relays, or general radio work if needed - I have a general license, and I've done emergency services work.
