SD to Big Bear Fri, May 24
SteelRain replied to Goofy Footer's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
Trying to get in on this. If I can get a guy in my neighborhood in with me I will be there. Goofy can you text me the link up info? -
I forgot to turn my helmet camera on, or you guys would have gotten a great video... and a lesson on how to out curse any sailor. I was riding one of my preferred loops yesterday and on a short pavement run up 67 Murphy tried to get the best of me. Basically coming up the hill I I saw an F150 lighting going pretty slow (5 under the limit, I wasn't speeding for once if you can believe that) so I decided to go around him. Well as I move over to pass he changes lanes without signalling, no worries, I just go to left lane to make the pass. Just after "apex" he drifts back to the left lane I tap the horn to let him know I am there, but he never sees me as I was likely moving through his blind spot. Once again, I slow and move over... then I see what should have been obvious, he is on his phone and his load, a wooden table is not secured. A smart man would have backed off quite a bit at that point, but I have never been accused of being a smart man... a smartass, but not a smart man. :coolio:/> Anyway, I decide I will just drop two and go around. At this point he must have thought I was being an A-hole with all those lights on my bike, and I hear the truck's exhaust scream to life... . . . . and the table slides back, and back, and farther back still, then down, onto the road in front of me. No impact with the bike occurred and there is no epic riding ability story. Just a scary moment that was easily avoided with basic MSF riding techniques "push-push" :rolleyes:/> but I know it is that time of year most seasonal riders get back into the commuting thing things happen. Honestly, I know my mistake: Failing to use common sense and just backing way off when I discovered that there was nothing securing his load, AND not just passing quickly / through the drivers blind spot with haste. Hopefully my stupidity will server as reminder for the everyone else who may have the same lapse of judgement. That could have really sucked the BMW and myself.

I'll have check my pump, not sure of the model, but mine fits very snuggly in the top pouch of my Mojavi with the case on it. I was just to lazy to take it apart, and I don't worry to much about a few ounces... I am not fast enough for it to matter.

I agree, on SBK bikes we never used these for the final bleed (just the start) otherwise you end up with spongy brakes when the fluid gets good and hot. I bought into reverse bleeding and IMO that is by far the easiest solution. Good set of instructions for making your own setup and how to do it correctly: http://www.moccsplace.com/images/brakes/bleeder/bleeder.htm

Went out shooting in that are today with a few new and interesting firearms. Saw one was missing a blade (near the road at that) and had to pull out the spotting scope to confirm I had not lost my mind.

Add me. If you get crazy and get anywhere Occidental I know those roads like the back of eyelids. -
How NOT to treat your riding buddies.
SteelRain replied to PastaPilot's topic in Articles, Movies, Videos, DS/ ADV Related
Reminds me of the ADVRider Super C0llider. If you watch the full length video (second video) the guy never apologizes for plowing into his buddy. -
X-Country, Next time you plan a ride and shoot let me know. Fresh pork belly.... yummy

You need a MK107 my friend... that would be the ultimate ride and shoot pig gun... let me know if you want to shoot mine.

IN!!!! Same!

We all know the chatter of not riding alone
SteelRain replied to Logroller's topic in Articles, Movies, Videos, DS/ ADV Related
Yup, I prefer to ride solo (but I do like small like minded groups)... to much crap when you have different mindsets, paces, or people who refuse to communicate their desires. Plus I do not require a plan or timetable for a solo ride. -
Happy Birthday Foxy Lady!!

In my spare time I have been running a small custom shipping business for cars (last week hauled a Shelby Cobra from NYS to LA). You know to reach me, I should be in that area soon enough.... or I could be convinced to do the TAT with you.

Think Twice at Those Water Crossings
SteelRain replied to PastaPilot's topic in Articles, Movies, Videos, DS/ ADV Related
Once the buddy started walking around I had to ask why they didn't just ride on the dry concrete, the slop could not have been more than 45* Then again I am one of the few who has been lucky not to drop a bike in a water crossing...yet. -
Got Radio? Maybe you have phone
SteelRain replied to paulmbowers's topic in Equipment & Technical Forum
Yeah I tested that with my Android phone when I first got my helmet set three years ago. I did not have to unplug my radio though... or at least I don't remember it. My question is what special cable are you referring to? I just got mine at RadioShack. -
Harley rat chopper vs CBR1100R
SteelRain replied to Afry's topic in Articles, Movies, Videos, DS/ ADV Related
Umm yeah that was obvious. a decent launch requires about 6800rpm on a Honda 600rr and about 4700 RPM on the 1000rr... knowing how to ride helps alot also. -
When I was racing SBK I used a yoyodyne setup. I liked that it came with 3 plates 40, 50, and 60% reduction. It is amazing how much easier it is to get an elbow down with reduced throttle pull at 200mph

Help! Front Wheel Wobble that wasn't there before!
SteelRain replied to Little Bike's topic in Equipment & Technical Forum
The D606 is a fairly stout tire (I use it on my XR650R with a 7 gallon tank on it) I would check those wheel bearings and for any dings in the wheel. one ding with a loose spoke and otherws will being working loose. -
I know it is a little late, but my wife will be selling her 2002 Tacoma SRS king cab long bed soon....

CLP and an old tooth brush. TO prevent oxidation on the chrome a light coat will also help.
-
I have had the same thought.

Mimi, Send me a PM with your vehicle info. If I can't do it (for cost of parts) I know a guy who owns a local shop and would probably cut you a deal.

As promised

Mine measures 12" x 5.5" x 1.75 deep. The bag is a bit larger than the chair. I'll post pics shortly.
