I'll stop by with the family. No major maintenance issues as of now, but Haylee has asked a few times when she gets to go back to the pool with the cool slide...

That's a pretty old version, I don't think anything would hold up in court...

Crawdaddy Mojave Rd. Ride
Erick replied to Crawdaddy's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
I'm interested in this ride. Keeping an eye on it... -
I've seen this software work for corrupt partitions and deleted files. http://www.recovermyfiles.com/ . You can download it and last I saw, the free version shows you what can be recovered but makes you pay to actually recover the files.

Now, you're going to think I'm either full of $h.. or crazy, but this works. I've done it 2 times in the past 3 months. Put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes. Then plug it in and see what happens. You may have to repeat a few times. I find that I can get about 5 minutes before I have to cool it back down. I've had my wife's laptop go south, yanked the drive and froze it and also used the method at a client last week. Works like a champ. I haven't done it on a USB drive. It may take longer to chill it where it needs to be while it's in the enclosure. Worth a try... Here's a link that covers the topic: http://www.datarecoverypros.com/hard-drive-recovery-freeze.html

New member of the family
Erick replied to baldbeemer's topic in Info About Motorcycle Brands & Models
Congrats! That's a great bike. I've logged some of my best miles on a KDX 200. Love that bike. I always have an eye out for a good deal on a KDX. I've seen a few plated ones go here and there on CL. Always quicker than I can call unfortunately, or maybe "fortunately" depending which angle you're looking at it... Have fun! -
Pain at McCain (info?)
Erick replied to robertaccio's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
I had a headon at McCain as well. It was me on my WR against a 110 lb female. She was coming uphill out of a corner in the burmed twisty section on the east side. I went off the trail and she panicked and headed straight for me. She got bruised up pretty good, not a mark on me, but tore my rear fender off. I'm a little skiddish out front now. I'll still do my share leading, but not my favorite at the head-on places like CC and McCain. There really does need to be some directional trails at both places. How much would it possible cost to do that. Couldn't be more than a medivac or 2.... -
Two badly sprained ankles
Erick replied to Kris's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
Yeah, I can see that one taking someone down. Get well soon, I know the ankle injuries are painful. -
Not waiting at a Y is going to happen. One person's Y is anohter person's "obviouisly not a Y". This why I love riding with radios. However, I'm not cool with someone who is willfully impaired on a ride. I don't care if you've been waking and baking since 86, it's still not the place. Skip a day and have some better awareness. You need it, the group needs it. Not much room for error even on the Newbie rides.

Thanks for all the b-day wishes!

Lessons Learned Big Bear to 7 Oaks
Erick replied to johnnybags's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
Wow... Thanks for sharing the experience. We all can't get too many reminders of the fact that situations can go sideways on you when least expected. Glad you made it out of there. -

I'm going to take this class, seems like a good first step to being prepared a little better: San Diego Red Cross CPR/First Aid This one looks good too, CPR cert is a prerequisite: Wilderness First Aid

A friend of mine teaches an EMT class, let me know if that would be a resource for us. Great ideas. YES! YES! That would be great. Even though I was merely "shade" for Tom while we waited for the Helicopter. My involvement made me acutely aware of my lack of higher level first aid knowledge. I really need some sort of training. If Strega can get his friend to do a class, great. I know a couple of SD medics. I'll run the idea by them, they may have a resource as well... PS.. That's one heck of an X-Ray. Thanks for sharing that with the group.

Talk about the hand signals BEFORE you start your back down. It'll save all the name calling and yelling that will happen if you don't.
