  1. apparently safety is fine...if it pays :)

Red light cameras do reduce accidents. That is a good thing ... But they do it by reducing red light violations, by as much as 29 percent from month to month at particularly busy Dallas intersections. ... City Manager Mary Suhm estimated last week that the city would fall short by more than $4 million. So last week, the city turned off about a quarter of the least profitable cameras, saying it couldn’t justify the cost of running them.

  2. Just a reminder about the meet & greet/fundraiser for Brian Jones (Republican U.S. Representative Candidate, 52nd District)his website I'm going to co-sponsor with Gary Orr, owner of San Diego BMW Motorcycles this Saturday at my house in Mission Valley at 9227 Rebecca ave. SD, 92123 from 4-6 pm.

The way I see it SDAR is starting to get noticed more on the political scene, I think we had around 20 people at the town hall meeting last weekend, this will give us a chance to have more of a personal audience with someone who is already on the Santee City Council and has fought successfully for trail openings, and has already recruited volunteers in Santee to augment city forces, plans which he hopes to extend to

    dualsport issues.

His main competition is Duncan Hunter Jr., whom I haven't heard much from, only the namesake of his father. Brian actually went riding with us and listened to Kevin whining for hours, and still wants to buy a bike  though probably not Kevin's :D

Anyway, I think we need to give back to the sport to keep things open for the next generation of riders, and becoming a politically recognizable force that won't take the closures sitting down is important. I eventually want phone calls from us to BLM and others to have quite an impact, and that comes from building political force, and here's a place to start. I'd like the local officials to know they can count on us, and so far we're off to a good start. Plus we'll provide the goodies, drinks and you can see Brian's scars from the various

hop-off's he's had while riding with us so far :D

  3. The only time I've laid the pig down (so far) was riding down and off camber switchback on Mount Thomas which was covered with a couple inches of snow and then solid ice...the backend slowly slid downhill, sideways, the frontend did not  It balanced on the left cylinder and made wierd snow angels as it did 360's until I could catch it after a couple revolutions  I was standing on the pegs, so I just gradually stepped off the bike as it left me, no harm done, it was wierd, kind of slow motion. Nice view up there, you can see the whole valley and listen to Kevin's stories I think he makes up on the spot :D

  4. Hey, I'm building a Quickie Q200 in my garage with a BMW R1200GS motor on it...let's race ;) I expect to get a cruise of about 180mph out of 100hp dualsport motor, and hey, I can live with 3-4gph fuel burn if I'm payin' for it....but if you have a spare seat.... ;)

I flew up to Long Beach at the Toyota terminal and we parked our ghetto Cherokee next to Ferrari's Piaggio, very nice indeed. They rolled out the red carpet for us, we didn't know whether to get out of the plane or not, thought they must've seen another plane somewhere ;)

  5. Welcome to the nuthouse  Those Suzuki's seem to be a pretty good all-around bike, though not many people like riding coast to coast on them  they have Japanese quality, which makes them relatively bulletproof.

  6. A lot of the guys on the site ride to explore, not really to race. To quote my friend, "I owe too much money to too many people to crash" so a lot of us just take it easy and enjoy the burgers and commaraderie, though occasionally we get some friendly "races" but most of us are over the "let's see if this leaves a scar" phase :)

Welcome! I'll see you out at the dash, look for the battleship size pig...that's me :)

  7. Welcome :) My wife and I almost always go together, that's why I had to get the uberpig, but even before that we went on our honeymoon 2-up on an LC-4 KTM in Canada, just upgraded because of the baggage handling of the pig. I'd rather ride with my wife than just about anyone, she's my favorite person to ride with, but I hear that's rare. We had to get a bunch of gear to make it work on long trips that include offroad, but it's definitely a joy. Anyway, hope to see you on the trail, you'll meet some pretty cool people here, hope to see you out there :)

  8. I rode a 1983 XL600 900 miles in 2 days from Oregon...mostly to say I did it, but then commuted every day on it for 6 months until I got an LC-4 KTM, which I then rode out to the desert all the time, almost never in a truck. You can do it if you want, these bikes will handle it, but you may want to get a steering stabilizer if you want to get rid of the slight shimmy on the rain grooves, alternately you can just hold a little more pressure on one grip than the other and that will go away.

Welcome, hope to see you on the trail, you'll know it's me, I'm the guy with dirt tires on something the size of an aircraft carrier :)

  9. I had one the same year/flavor and took it down the Diablo dropoff, out by Ocotillo Wells and was just fine, just have to watch catching air, tends to land like a tank, accompanied with loud "thumps" when the suspension bottoms, but just lug the motor down, shut off the ABS and troll along, you'd be surprised by how well it does. I can get a lot more air with the new Pig, but my 1100 was a really nice roadbike, very pleasant, rode coast to coast in comfort :) Run TKC-80 Continentals on it if you're going offroad, you'll immediately know why otherwise
