    PRE BBQ RIDE

The pig thanks you, it didn't know it could ride up the side of a rock wall, uh, road with street slicks on but hey, had a great time, thinking about doing a similar route AT NIGHT WHEN IT'S COOL, then it would've been perfect...maybe wait for a full moon and give it another shot? One more run and I could've made it up that thing Oh, and I'm getting riding gear that's not solid black, that might help. Good work getting that Husky down the hill Dirt Dame, glad to see you at the bottom still in one piece, if extremely worn out.

    Pre-BBQ Ride

I don't know where I'm going or who I'm meeting, but I'm planning on following the directions a few posts up and meeting somewhere at 8am... alternately, if someone wants to PM an address in El Cajon or wherever the SD take off point will be, I'll meet there...either way, we shall see the pig indeed I live in Mission Valley, so El Cajon's just a wee bit down the road. Anyone got an address for the Valero?

Simple How-To on joining/uploading photos to the gallery (not this forum): 1. go here http://www.dualsport-sd.com/gallery/index.php 2. Register/Login 3. After you register, you'll have the opportunity to create single or multiple albums named whatever you want and upload photos to them. 4. When you create an album, it will prompt you for a bunch of extraneous info...ignore that, just scroll down and hit the "Save" button 5. Go back to the gallery home and you should see your album, click on the "No Thumbnail" link and it will take you to a page with a link that says "Add a Photo!" 6. Browse your filesystem and select a photo to upload and a caption for it (you can also upload other things if you tab through the options, like webcam stuff), it will automatically resize your images for web-friendliness, and also give you the thumbnail. 7. Go back to the gallery homepage and check out your pix, you can click through the album and also make a slideshow out of it if you want. 8. Be inspired...get back out and ride Got any questions/feedback, throw me a PM and I'll try to improve the process if needed.

    new gallery

So I finally got off my butt and got the gallery up and running, I'm also working on some tweaks so we can embed videos in various forms in some useful (?) way. Anyway, I would appreciate if some of you could start giving me feedback on what works/sucks on it http://www.dualsport-sd.com/gallery/index.php and I'll be tweaking it accordingly to hopefully make it useful. If it works, you should also be able to link to it in your forum posts. Now go ride :clapping:

    Pre-BBQ Ride

80% chance I'm in...just gotta get the beefier skidplate install to avoid problems if I case it, and throw another TKC-80 on the rear, you can almost see the air it's so bald...no comments Kevin This time I have rear brakes too, a definite improvement off-road. I live in Mission Valley, I'll just ride out there, prolly leave here around 8am if anyone is silly enough to want to ride along with the pig.

I've been tweaking the settings on it, let me know if you've gotten your confirmation yet, otherwise I'll troubleshoot a bit more. There's no limit to the size of your albums, uh, since we own the servers and built them :clapping: so unless we run out of hard drive space, keep 'em coming

    KLR parts?

I'm hosting a couple that's riding around the world on a KLR650 (her) and R1150GS (him) and she's in need of various KLR parts (carburetor mostly, specifically float chamber), where would be a good place to look locally, she's trying to do things cheaply, anyone got a lead on a carburetor they're not using? Also looking for a clutch, sprocket and chains, where's a good place to shop for those? She would be most appreciative if some of you KLR guys would chime in
  11. I had plenty of time to get my next appointment, now I'm late because I sat and read the whole thing....dang it Randy I got to get up there on the uberpig now...see what you've done

    monday april 30

Hey Bruce, You get the photo upload sorted out, it seems other folks were able to upload, maybe give it another shot? Let me know (PM) if you still run into troubles...your photos might be reeeeally large too, might want to scale them down a bit if that's the case.
  13. Ooooohhhh, my aching butt...we did a an (almost) Iron Butt 900+ mile 2-up ride on the Uberpig...swapped the aging (and rapidly evaporating knobbied) TKC-80 rear and ailling Karoo front for some more streetish Michelin Anakee's and set sail for a weekend of riding mostly flat slab up to Oregon and back. Looks like we got over 2200 miles on the clock from the venture, and the uberpig earned its keep this time. Very pleasant bike on the road, it turns out, normally I'm grunting over sand whoops trying wildly to keep within eye shot of the DRZish crowd, but this time we stuffed it full of baggish looking devices with cords snarling out so we could keep Mrs. Unclecameron informed of pending food and potty breaks enroute, and a moderately successful attempt to keep some inflight entertainment using a CD player input from a unit that had been dropped more times than Kevin's Dakar took off late night, rode 'till 2am, got a motel, rode another 500 miles the second day, then did the family thing with the northern unclecameron family...talked about trees...watched stuff rust, ya know, good times. Turns out the rest of the world has this thing called "weather" which involves snowflakes crossing mountain passes...who knew? Anyway the blood DOES come back to the extremeties mostly after baking in hot showers on arrival, and you stop saying "WHAT, WHAT" after your hearing comes back from miles of airflow giving you a permanent whistle over the Skynard (Kevin's suggestion for traveling tunage donchaknow, thanks Kev ). Got into some thick fog along the way and wound up shivering like a dog trying to pass a peach pit along the dark creepy tree-lined bowels of Oregon highway. Eventually we headed up north in Oregon to Salem for some other family stuff (graduation...not me, I'm on work release, not the degree program) and doled out golf claps at the appropriate times, then headed back south for our jumping off point for the last 900 mile stretch, which we attempted on Sunday a.m. when mere mortals were snoring off the effects of late night inbibbing or sorts, or hustling their way to places where you get forgiveness for such. Started off around 9ish a.m. (heavy on the ish) and basically started riding...and never stopped until the signs started looking Spanish...signs of home here in SD. Never try to get an Oregonian to try to pronounce Penasquitos...a little tip (free). So after exterminating enough bugs by streching a 1/4 inch bug for 3 inches on plexiglass to make the pest control guys proud, and sucking down enough caffiene to make me just edgy enough to keep the 1060 pound (yeah, we measured it at a weigh scale) pound package happily plying along at 80 for what seemed like days, we made it. Briefly I thought about riding around town to get the extra miles in for the 1000 miles/day crown, but the little blue aliens began appearing and beckoned me off at the appropriate exit, and this time I heeded them. Slid off the uberpig like a 105 year old trying to do kung-fu, peeled the hands into an open position over a period of minutes, shucks all the bug infested garb and baked in the shower until I smelled better. Then ate everything that looked like it helped middle age sore guys and groaned off to bed, a large flat surface that was everything I dreamed about while sitting on what seemed like a fencepost of a seat after 15 hours. I know the 1200's are pigs offroad, but they do get there...eventually, but I wanna see a 525 do a 2-up 900 mile day with bags, then I'll write a check for one...not until then

    Tires

Get a 1200...no matter what you bolt to the back you can actually watch the knobbies dissappear while you ride, especially if you're on the throttle, the good news is the tire salesman might buy you dinner with the amount you'll be spending with him. Figure 2 weekends of riding on a rear Karoo in the rocks, a little more mileage if you run TKC-80's, as far as I know those are the only viable tires offroad on the big pigs, and Karoo is moderately scary on the road in the corners...though I guess that adds to the excitement Anyone know of any other options for those who espouse a fat beast of a bike?

    Hello All

A lot of guys buy a KLR to get their feet wet and wind up 2 years later riding the thing around the world Don't be shy, jump in, it's addicting whether you're riding a new hotness or a bucket of bolts...nothing like it, and your always welcome, plenty of advice floating around, some honed over barley derivatives, some of questionable origin, some from years of experience, some just plain make you look stupid on film...you decide which is which...welcome!

    east cape of baja

What's the range (for planning) of rooms in baja hotels? Like the low end being glorified camping with a place to wizz, and the upper end having a hot-tub in the room? I drove the yuppie-mobile down to San Felipe one night, and since I'm so white I get sunburned reading books about the sun, I think I got overcharged pretty hard, $80 for a crap-tastic room (but it had old dubbed John Wayne movies on the set in Black in White...soooo, uh, yeah), but I gotta assume there's some common knowledge of what I should expect to pay if I don a sombrero and fake an accent to try to blend, until they see my face
  17. Got the more smiley option workin', just click on the "Show All" link at the bottom of the smiley box, should give you more, let me know what you think of them, I can add more, but there's a lot more options now, so lemme know

    990 Adventure

You can take a big bike offroad, sometimes WAY offroad, but you have to decide for yourself if you're up for the challenge, as it'll be more effort than on a DRZ400. But then if there's only one space in the garage, or the wife snatches away as you grab for the checkbook, a lot of guys settle on a swiss army knife of a bike,. Mine has to do VERY well 2-up, as my wife loves to ride, on and off-road too on long trips, that shortens the list drastically, otherwise I would've kept my LC4 and rode the world with a slight buzz on pavement, but amazing offroad ability. I swung into a sweet deal on the uberpig, but was seriously leaning toward a KTM 950 after riding one seriously offroad. Here's the thing after your all done with the brochures: ride both, figure out which one works for you, and which one is the funnest for you (everyone's different) and then learn to love the glitches every bike has, then just go ride and don't worry about it, most people talk more than they ride, you'll be happier if you do the reverse
  20. I'm runnin' the checkpoint at Mesa Grande...see y'all out there
  21. Well, I'm going to check around and see if anyone has a tasty hack for this...will keep you posted

I could light a runway with the lighting overkill on the uberpig, got some dates? ...sounds like fun

Thanks to Randy and unclecameron for this site!

suckups... go ride Hey, I'm the most shocked of all...all started in my garage after I met Randy in Julian when I was walking by after a "spirited" ride on my Ducati, and spotted his LC4 and started talking to him about it...guess you never can tell...still havin' fun behind the scenes

  25. 2cents below: =============== BLM will be in the best position to facilitate a balanced approach to land management if we have a balanced viewpoint represented on this committee, someone who understands the requirements of sensible amounts and usages of trails for the public which BLM serves, combined with appropriate environmental treatment. Simply working toward closure prolongs the process because it attracts a more protracted battle. We need someone in the middle who can work for keeping our lands open and properly managed, it's the shortest path to the best stewardship we know BLM is seeking, and, therefore, resolution in this manner will also be the most cost effective. =============== Can't make it, teaching relatives how to ride Saturday, doubt they'd come along and watch me jump on a table and try to act threatening...but in a good way.
