Crawdaddy's Barstow to Laughlin 2010

Recommended Posts

So nobody else took any pictures?

It was an epic trip for me. I've done the Mojave Road one time several years ago in a 4x4, but this was my first ride going on my XR400.

Thanks again Chris for putting the GPS tracks together. I definitely saw more of thed trails history on this trip than my previous two day one way 4x4 ride. :thumbsup_anim:

I hope you enjoyed your stogie :big_boss:

Here is the rock house

Sunday's return ride from Laughlin.

Appropriate decorations on Christmas Tree. It was great having tracks that took us a different direction on day 2. On day one, we came up to the Colorado River as the sun was setting.

You could see the weather chasing us Sunday morning as we rode on this cool seldom used trail.

I'm back with 1157 miles on the ODO.......tough to come back to urbanization, morning commute, w-o-r-k........will upload some photos later.......most of mine are "post" Mojave Rd. when riding solo/exploring for new C.O.R.E. "stuff".....

One teaser.......found some fun single track in various locations while exploring in the Laughlin area.......this particular section of single track is STEEP on both sides......don't miss the next C.O.R.E. Barstow/Laughlin ride.......or, in this particular case, "Hard C.O.R.E. Dualsport":coolio:

See ya on the trail :good:

Another great ride put on by CDaddy. Zina and I started out on our own, rode some with Main Blockhead and Jimbob and a lot with Dirty Adventurer, Dirt Diva and Bruce. Also nice chatting with Dusty Rock, hope we see him on some future rides.

It was pretty uneventful, no good stories to tell and although it was a blast it sure felt good to sit in a warm truck for the drive home.

Ok, here are some of my pics from Sat and Sunday with the group.

Strega at the 2nd water crossing (the first for us as we went across the tracks at the first crossing looked too iffy..we later learned that Dusty (Victor) drowned his KTM heading across the water at the first crossing:

Just past the 2nd water crossing I saw these columns off to the right.....they looked worthy of a short side trip..Strega with the bikes:

It's not that we don't trust the citizens of Barstow; it's just that we don't trust anyone in Barstow. Actually, I'm down with the Husky being stolen, but I would've had to two-up with Wayne.

You've seen "Hoarders," right? This was "Hoarders" on a mini, mobile scale. OCD is only interesting when you don't have it and I don't have it so this was interesting (sorry if you have it, but like I said...). What does this have to do with dualsporting? If you look closely in one of the pics you can see a $10 bill -- that $10 could buy a decent amount of gas for a dualsport. Everything is connected if you know where to look.

This was after the guys hooked up to our two-man train. You don't mess with the Zohan and you don't get close to the Wayne-man:

The mighty SS Vickers. I knew I shouldn't have handed the keys over to the valet:

Wayne gives the traditional SDAR salute:

post-1009-025131600 1291264446_thumb.jpg

I think Wayne is flashing some other gang sign. Dirtdiva is back in that pack of headlights wringing the snot out of her Husky, which probably tops out at 55 and explodes at 60.

post-1009-081465800 1291264960_thumb.jpg

The rain started to fall and we stopped to put on some rain gear. John packed a hazmat suit!

post-0-051859300 1291265230_thumb.jpg

Naturally, it stopped raining shortly after we put on all that flippin' gear.

Dirtbikers will sit ANYWHERE (mmmm, sticky and stained concrete) especially when they're a little cold and hungry.

Those are some great pictures of the hoarders van

Engage imagination....

A few years back one of our drivers was parked on Mission Gorge off loading some equipment to deliver to a jobsite. His trailer (48' lowboy with dovetail down) was about halfway in the slow lane with cones and lights blaring.

A hoarder was cruising along at about 50 miles an hour and drove right up the ramp of the trailer. Because the trailer was only half way in the lane.....the hoarder's mini van went up the left side of the trailer which caused a Dukes of Hazard barrel roll. Nothing happened to the driver as he was trapped in all of his crap. But the hoarder and tow truck driver spent the next hour picking up crap all over Mission Gorge. Talk about a yard sale!

AhahhaHAHAHAhahhaha! May all the OCD drivers around the world get the appropriate help so they can have a windshield they can see through.

A few more pics...

Hitting the river just before it got dark. A very pleasant sight.

Not the same as the Grand Canyon snowstorm, but still entertaining in that Donner-Party-thought-provoking way.

Here's the problem with wearing glasses and using a visor: the visor fogs up so you have to raise it. Then the snow pelts your face. You want to be blind or in pain? I pulled out a rag and tucked it across my face to prevent either. Next time there's a chance of rain or snow in the forecast, I'm bringing my neoprene dust mask.

Back at Baker and happy to be dry. Is Wayne telling stories about the time he's spent at the Bun Boy Motel?

As we were coming upon this scene, I was worried that someone had crashed. Turned out it was just flat tire repair time for the artist formerly known as Fakename. Not sure why the diver was called in.

Back outside of Yermo and waiting for some folks. Mr. Shadow is pointing at the stop-and-go traffic on I-15. Welcome back to "civilization."

Z: Those captions are hilarious. "Not sure why the diver was called in." , "Bun Boy Motel", "Donner-Party-thought-provoking way" etc ect..... Well done & the pics were good too.

Thanks

I would think that it would be obvious that the diver was called in to inspect the hull of the USS Vickers :heh: :heh: :heh: .

Great pics Zina. Because you were on the ride is the main reason I didn't take out my camera. You do a much better job than I would. Strega does look eerily like a diver in that photo. Thanks for taking the time to take the pics and post. Ken

Here is the video of our trip to Laughlin. Somewhere in the middle of it there is a not so smart guy attempting to cross the Mojave river. It was all going fine til the drop-off
