KLX 250/300 exhaust compatibility

My buddy bought a 1995 klx 250 that came with one of those cheap fleabay full exhaust systems. Of course it's crazy loud and doesn't have a spark arrestor. Unfortunately exhaust options for that year bike are limited and expensive or in poor condition. I searched far and wide on the internet and most sources say the klx changed enough in 06 or 07 that exhausts are not cross compatible after that. THAT IS A LIE. I found one random forum post that mentioned putting a newer exhaust on an older bike. 

So I found a full stock exhaust system from a 2025 klx300 street legal machine locally in Oceanside for $100. Cheaper and in better shape than anything on fleabay. Worth the gamble. Sure enough, it bolts right up to the 95 klx250. Fitment is perfect. It's ultra quiet and I'm pretty sure it has a cat in there and it's heavy, but at least we can ride around Big Bear without burning the place down. And now we know that probably any klx 250/300 exhaust will fit, so finding another option will be much easier going forward. We did have to plug the o2 sensor bung. 

So, though the klx has changed throughout the years, but the cylinder head exhaust mount and the mounts on the subframe remain the same throughout the years. They did add an o2 sensor bung at some point, I don't know when. 

If this info was available before it would have saved us some annoyance.
