storm is coming, Pinyon to fish creek question

Recommended Posts

I'd love to hit this this weekend.  Is there a way to ride from Pinyon to fish creek, then back track maybe to diablo then back to the staging area across from stagecoach?  Trying to do the ride with zero street  If possible anyone interested in doing this ride?  the soil should be ideal

Not that I know of. You'd probably have to do an out and back, requiring you to go back up Heart Attack Hill (or its bypass) and back up through the squeeze.

Here's a map

Yeah I was thinking worse case, go back up it, or the small bypass route next to it.

I'd be concerned with flash floods in some of those washes. Almost an inch forecasted on Saturday. I'm headed out to ocotillo wells and maybe borrego springs though

Sunday would be the preferred day to eliminate the possibility of flash floods, but I am open to either day

You would have to go back up heart attack which is a "one way" but not enforced.

If you go back up Diablo a one way also you would be way too far south and about 20ish minutes of highway. No dirt connection.

If heart attack is wet would be hard to get back up, Diablo would be easy

Given the uncertain nature of this storm (they cant seem to figure out how bad it will be and where) the risks of flash flood in those areas is not worth the ride

but that is just my .02

Yeah i was thinking the same.  Might look into a Otay pink gate ride or something.  I actually like riding DS in some rain once in a while.  unless its flooding.  Guess I'll wait and see

Got myself in a precarious situation in my Jeep out there. They call it “Flash” flood for a reason. Had to admit it was pretty cool seeing a dry creek filled with water in A matter of an hour. Whatever you plan on doing, stay safe.

Yeh, if you've ever watched a flash flood roll across the desert, or into and down canyons. . . it's a powerful sight.  One that changed my perspective on rain in the wild regions.

Epic pictures, Kato. I didn't realize that was you out there. I wasn't sure if I was going to make it out because we weren't sure if we'd get the klx running well enough to ride. Sure enough, we got it going and sure enough, ran into you out there not even knowing you were on here too!

I'm Truman and I was on the ktm 450. My buddy was on the Klx. We'll have to ride together again soon

Oh ---- neither did I!! That klx is cool man, you guys were flying. Here you are down the hill enjoying the wheeling show.
And here is the video of tapiado the day prior as I was telling you. Pretty cool. Diablo was even gnarlier but I was in adrenaline mode and didn’t film it.

Note to self. Next rain storm, drop everything and get to fish creek with the 450. No excuses!

Flash floods in the desert, while quite dangerous…. Are absolutely FASCINATING.
