I just rode out Pine Creek to check the gates.  It was nice and cool with puddles everywhere and the creek was running.  Miners Road was closed and Deer Park was still open but a tree fell during the last storm and complete blocked the rode about a mile in.  I'm going to contact the Forest Service to ask them if I can remove it, If I can find there contact info.

I just ran down to the Forest Service Descanso office.  They told me that they can't give me permission to do it but they would do it for me... maybe today!

Nice I  haven't been up on deer park in years without bypassing gates.

Wonder why they shut it down for so many years

A few years back, a large thunderstorm hit that area and heavy rainfall was a result. It did cause some damage and the FS used that as an excuse to close it for as long as they did.

Yesterday (8/14/24), I bicycled Pine creek and saw the gate open, and I was somewhat surprised since my perception matched what Oracle shared... but a reminder that you would likely still need to ensure that the exit gate at Pioneer Mail is still open to get to Sunrise Hiway from Deer Park riding.  I had headed to the Laguna meadow/Lake so I did not check that specific gate ( because I turned east at the "oak tree").  Somewhat shocking how dry the road was given the recent downpour, and a bit slippery given loose pebbles over broken tarmac.

The problem isn't the gate at Sunrise Hwy, it's the closed gate about a mile up from where Deer Park turns into Indian Potrero.

The forest service is putting in bids for water on the restoration job of that whole road all the way up to s1 from pine valley  . So enjoy it while you can, its going  to be a big huge job site soon.

They'll probly install a few more gates and rails along the way.

It should be nice for the big adventure bikes when they get done.
