cmbthumper 160 Posted October 24, 2022 Not a build thread just updates as i make it more "Mine". 2007 KTM 450 EXC I am giving it a facelift as the PO had the controls pretty mangled, the wiring behind the headlight was seconds away from a fire IMO, Bent hand Guards and i didn't like the bar bend. So, I changed the following: · After months of searching i finally found a sub mount to use my V1 GPR that I pulled when I sold my 525 · Powder coated the Frame mount post thing · Ditched the KTM instrument Cluster all together · HDB Top Clamp · HDB Lower Dash · USB Cigarette charger thing · Trail tech Vapor · LED Turn Signals on Mask · Sicass Racing Direct Plug In Turn Signal Indicator Rewire Kit · Relocated the key ** I wanted to put it on the HDB mount but it was to tall and hit the GPR · Sicass Racing Bar Switch · 09’ KTM 450 Supermoto Kill Start Switch as I hate Separate buttons · Cycra Handguards w /Cycra mounts for Neken Bars · ODI Rogue Grips · KTM 6 days Handlebars ** This is the bend that I like the best for my bad wrists Still need to run wire for power to the USB thing and run the Trail Tech Tach signal wire. bboyle9 24 Posted October 30, 2022 Thats trick. I'd like to build something like this for my 525. Best guess on how many hours you put in? Anything you would do differently next time?
cmbthumper 160 Posted October 30, 2022 Thank you. YOu should. A clean dash sure is nice plus it puts a little modern twist on the bike. Like anything i do i would do a lot of things differently. This was a little more difficult as there was not a lot of Examples i could find online with this era of KTM using an older sub mount GPR Damper. In reality, using a Scott's system it would be more "Plug & Play". Hours into it? Tough one as i don't keep track. With my Severe case of Anal OCD what takes and average person say 4 hours to do takes me and easy 8hrs. With all the pieces parts to do just the dash it could easily be done on a Saturday. I went from replacing the steering bearings to the dash as you see it so mine was a few weekends as i had time.
Goofy Footer 536 Posted October 30, 2022 Are all 525’s 100mm spacing for the top clamp? How was your purchase from HDB? I’ve read about people complaining they take a long time to reply / poor customer service. (Great product I think it’s just a small shop) @bboyle9 has a 2006? 525 MXC the HDB parts are trick What is the orange bit on your throttle cables?

My OG Triple Clamps had 2 snapped fender bolts that i could not get out so i used the KTM PN and found some on ebay for cheap. When i go them the stem did not have a cutout for the Key Lock Pin so i had to drill that out. It was marked 2007 KTM 450SX in paint so i suspect the clamps don't change just the stem base do the model. Just a guess though. This was my 3rd setup ive done with HDB stuff. My KTM 500 and XR400 pieces parts were Pre-Covid. I had an issue with my XR400 Dash Mount where the holes were machined out incorrectly for the Trail Tech Turn Signals. I knew he was the owner but i am going to guess his name was Steve. It took a few e-mails, texts and a phone call to solve but everything went as it should customer service wise. I ordered the 450 stuff here just a few months ago and ZERO problems with updates, shipping etc. So, for me they still get my $$. This but i am a cheap bastard so got one off fleabay for $6 and simply because i like Orange better. Had the same one on my 500 and 525 and the rubber pieces is crap for protection.
