Last weekend I attended the 2022 RevZilla Get On ADV Fest, hosted by Rawhyde Adventures, in Mojave CA. A few months ago I had posted on a few different club platforms that I am a part of, seeking a rental dualsport for my long time best friend from back home to use. He has never ridden a dirt bike, or in dirt much at all for that matter but has ridden street for many years. Huge shoutout to @tntmo from this Forum, he let up borrow his Husky 450 for the weekend, and it ended up being the perfect bike for my buddy Ryan to hit the desert for the first time with. Also want to thank my good friend Perry for letting me use the bike hauler since mine Is still somewhere in the ether making its way to me :)

I could tell my buddy was excited, but also didn't know what he was getting in to with the desert riding. Since we were on dualsports, and the 'easy' route was mostly pavement, we set off on the 'moderate' route day one. Ryan did really well, and was even passing bikes already on his way to the Husky monument - Ryan attributes his quick learning to a lifetime of riding standup jetskis. First thing he said when we cruised the washes, 'this is like riding a standup jetski' haha who would have thought.

Anyway, the event was really well organized, and run. If you participated in things, there was a lot to participate in, and a lot going on. All sorts of vendors, rides, bikes, demos, etc. There is a lot of events out there to go to, this is just another one that I'll add to the annual schedule if I can :)

Here is some photos, and again huge shoutout to @tntmo for loaning us the Husky 💪

Nice photos!  I’m glad y’all had a good time and glad the bike mostly worked out.

It’s cleaner than it was when I loaned it out!

Long for me, is short for someone else.

Thanks for sharing the report. How was the compound there? I often wonder what it would cost to put a few storage containers and a metal building / kwanzaa hut in the dez.

How was the ride to the Husky Monument?

Quonset hut.  Designated  by a team of engineers at Quonset Point Naval Air Station in Rhode Island, hence the name.

The properties are not that expensive, I know a couple folks that own patches of land in Landers, near the Hammer Trails (Johnson valley OHV Area) and it wasn't expensive, and seems like a great Idea if you do go out there often. The ride was great, it was one they shared on Rever as a Moderate route, but I think that was on a XLADV scale, just really nice flowy desert 2 track or wash roads. The other place that was really epic to ride through for the views and the fun dirt roads was the Jawbone area, there is ridge dirt roads that go all through there and the views are epic, and the dirt is fast.

I haven't ridden Landers / Johnson Valley much but it looks fun. A compound where friends/family can camp would be pretty cool.

Any chance you have a quick link to the Rever track?

Grass Valley Road is a very nice trail that goes north from Husky Monument to a connector trail east of the Cuddleback Lake. I recommend it if you're exploring that area more.

I checked on Rever and I can see all the routes on the community page for the event, can you join this community and see the rides? Kcn1c2ejHnb

Husky monument was posted as "Friday Husky Monument Moderate" What I would suggest is that if you still feel like you want to dirt for the ride back, reverse the track on the way out, they made a lot of the ride back on little paved backroads - I think if we had known that we would have stayed on dirt and just enjoyed the trip out in reverse :) But, you should be able to get to all of the rides they shared at the event from there, if not - I can pull the GPX's.
