tntmo 887 Posted May 12, 2021 Remove all parts/pieces/wiring harness from the area. Remove the battery and the CDI. Strip the paint and rust from the tubing. Have a competent welder patch it up. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

DSM8 360 Posted May 12, 2021 Thats a serious enough crack might want to see if you can sleeve the tube (tube inside the frame) or at least get some sort of gusset on there to help reinforce the weld and HAZ (heat affected zone). Tig weld would be the best course of action. Your going to want to remove everything from the surrounding area and all the electronic bits to protect them from the welding current (Batt, CDI and such). what kind of bike it is, cant tell from the pics. Yeah given the critical nature of the join would not recommend. But knock youself out, if it fails while riding you might actually knock yourself out Sumtin to think about. Maybe good idea to drill a drain hole there ? The bike did have a surfboard rack on that side. Easily could have had salty wetsuits and/or towels that drained salt water on that corner. I know how to weld but I don’t do it enough to be proficient, nor do I have great welding equipment. Always great to know people, and we have some good welders in this group too.
