Geico Adventure Rally

Recommended Posts

Met up and rode the rally with Mr JaJa and 2 others looking for landmarks in the rally. Started from Stage Coach Trails campground. We were on a mostly slab day. ( The other 2 guys had had enough of the sand on Friday)

Worked our way through the high desert up to Palomar Mtn. Down to Harrahs casino for fuel. Back up the mountain back thru Julian followed by a great BBQ dinner back at Stage Coach.

I want to do all 3 days next year. Very well organized event. Probably 250 riders

A.  We thought it was weird when we crossed paths with 3 decked out Africa Twins creeping north in Arroyo Seco del Diablo Thursday.

B. Reading the promo page, this is billed as a Competition.  Clock Out, Clock In. Did they get a permit for their competition in the State Parks??

C. Ken,  Reading between the lines, you have a choice of routes, Mountain, Valley and Desert.  Is that correct?

There was a guide book with points of interest to find.
I was just along for the ride.
The route was spread out from Truckhaven to west of to Palomar Mountain . Corral Canyon was one of the spots   Several in the Cuyamacas and Mt Laguna area.
The teams that won rode all 3 days.

No idea if they had permits. It was very well organized. I’d imagine so. They do several of these events yearly.
One rule was no speeding. It was not a race. Just a fun event. Winners received a plaque.

About Time in and Time out. This is only to get the results in for the evening announcement. Later check in deduces 3 points per 5 minutes. Clock out is that all have the same time frame to collect points. You get a Score book with  all the counting points and you decide with the Team where you go, when you go and witch direction you go. On the first day, some teams did 240 + miles and scored over 100 points. Best team where a Husband with wife on a 500 KTM and 250 2 stock KTM.

I am sure that there have a permit for a event like this with the industry support and background. Nice organized, good food for Breakfast and Dinner for 3 days. With 77 teams and 2-4 person in a team, i guess more than 300-350 participant.

Thanks for the Pictures Ken.

This is a great event for the sport.

Me, I don't want to go anywhere where there are that many other motorcycles.

And people.

Bah.

This event was more fun than I expected. I rode 165 miles before accidently connecting with them. They had live country music, bbq, big ol fire pit, 64 Chevy panel van beer tap, women, and A lot of surprisingly younger riders on these things.

It was nice to see all the different designs and the new styles of dash boards and gps.

What was even more surprising is the number of men/women teams . I guess when they whoop de Doo they do it together standing up.... Aewsome.

Happy to say the big bike adv guys know how to get down and have a really good time.

I like that pic of JA JA standing next to the statue of the Yeti. Priceless.

I was driving home from Bullhead on Saturday after attending SEMA in Vegas on Friday (my son was working the Baja Designs booth)...…..I saw a LOT of big ADV bikes between Truckhaven and Borrego Springs...…

I agree with Paul, nice to see a new/exciting event drawing more folks into the area/sport...….sounds like it was a well run event with an interesting/new format.....
