Ken S 164 Posted January 6, 2019 Picked up 2018 300XC—W with one hour on it at Veys yesterday. Time to setup another bike. Going to S101 for full race valve and spring job. Ordered Slavens Racing Lectron Mule carburetor. Seat Concepts seat on order New BRP sub bar stabilizer coming soon. Tubliss setup and Golden Tires soon to follow. Plan on racing this bike this season and saving the 500 for dual sport rides. Breakin ride 2pm today at Pine Valley.

tntmo 887 Posted January 7, 2019 Awesome machine. Are these the fuel injected two stroke models?
Ken S 164 Posted January 7, 2019 Broke in proper today. 2 1/2 hours of single track. Glad I rode it before doing all my mods. (My other bikes are setup amazingly thanks to S101 and my mechanic Thomas E) Its really bad suspension wise.in it’s stock form. Under sprung horribly for me. I’m a big guy. Jeting is to lean. Lectron carb will solve that. Havent ridden without a steering stabilizer in years. Getting one next week. The good. The power is not as tourqey as my 500 but so controlled and useable. Feels light like a mountain bike compared to my 500exc and Yamaha 450. So looking forward to what becomes of this ride.

This motor has the balancer though. Even less vibration than my 500. Very nice.
tntmo 887 Posted January 7, 2019 Nice! My wife has a 2009 300XCW, it’s a great bike. I can only imagine how much nicer the new ones are.
Bp619 104 Posted January 7, 2019 Congrats kenny love my 17 300xc same bike with counter balanced. Had the lectron and switched to jd jet keihin. Lectron was too soft of a hit feel. Rk tek head made huge torque improvements also if u feel u need more.

Im trying to only buy parts once on this bike.
AFM24 19 Posted January 7, 2019 Ooooohhhh..... That list of mods leads me to believe you knew what you wanted. Since I started riding on 2-stroke street bikes, ring-a-dings will always be the ultimate. Fingers crossed for the street version.
robertaccio 406 Posted January 7, 2019 nice choice Ken. cmon down for the Puerta MX single track race on the 26th of Jan. Do as you want for induction, but OEM stock motor with good jetting (JD works great) and some float level adjust and the thing will run just fine. Take my word I'm on the 17 TX300 Husky. My jet spec is exact per the JD sheet all I do is swap needles for the summer/winter temp change. Tractor easy power and zero stall. Stock E head is soft easy power , power is nothing without control. Also E (XC-W) suspension valve is great for all that rocky crap we ride, just match up your springs to weight setting and add some reb to compensate for the heavier springs, tell S101 I said that. ( but do go with what Mr. S101 has in his bag of tricks)

It ran very well but didnt reak the benefits of the altitude and temperature for no changes needed from lectron where we typically ride. On another thing might have swayed my opinion i was on 1st preorder and lectron/slavens have since changed atleast 2 times metering rod suggestions. Bp619 104 Posted January 7, 2019 Weird things with jettings on the new 300s, i had put the jd jet kit in mine ran like garbage with mikuni. Tried 3 different settings per manual and took it off, robert and as he just said works great in his with exact setting i tried.
TexasDualler 32 Posted January 8, 2019 I went with an KTM oem SX head and SX CDI box and .5mm base gasket. Made a noticeable improvement to the low end torque. Been thinking about a Lectron carb for awhile but maybe I'll try the JD jets first. Also think it's time for me to replace reed valves. And just a heads up, I wouldn't go too far over 100 or so hours between top ends or you could end up dead on a trail out of bounds somewhere and have to find someone with a 500 to tow you out.
Ptkatoomer 114 Posted January 8, 2019 I'm thinking about the Lectron or Smartcarb because of visiting my son in Colorado. Tried the jd jetting recommendations and the bike ran sorta ok, but not really right. Only had one day to ride and no time to fuss with it. Suppose I could try Slavens recommendations, but I like the idea of not having to worry about it. Robert's right though, my bike runs great here....... Any reason for the RK Teck head VS the Slavens Mule high compression head. Slavens claims it has more coolant capacity than the SX head.
Bp619 104 Posted January 14, 2019 Havent tried slavens, i had my original head milled by rbdesigns in Oregon and the rktek has way more toque than it,
