Baja 28-29 Dec

Recommended Posts

Merry Christmas everyone!  A couple of friends and I decided we are going to spend a couple days riding in Baja this week.  We have not been to Mexico for about 15 years, and have never to rode any of the off-road trails.  The last time I was in Mexico was a on road ride to Ensanada.  We may have one experienced person going with us, but he has been fickle about committing.

I was hoping to get some good recommendations on a two day ride in Baja starting at the Tecate Crossing.  We are intermediate off-road riders, with lots of backpacking experience.  We would have no problem sleeping in the outdoors, but would prefer stopping somewhere with good food and beer.

Also, there is an open invitation if any of you would like to join us.

One other question.  Do you recommend getting Mexican Insurance for a Duel Sport ride?  We will be riding an XR650r and a couple XR650l's.

Any advice is welcome.

2 Day Rides from Tecate.  Both require 90 mile fuel range.

Tecate --> Coyote Cals (south of Ensenada beach hostel, ocean views, warmer, $25 stay / $15 curry fish or sometimes chicken dinner / $8 breakfast).  http://www.coyotecals.com/index.html

Tecate --> Mike's Sky Rancho (mountains, remote oasis, probably gonna be cold, $70 room, steak dinner and breakfast)

Insurance is up to you.  General rule is Don't Crash in Mexico.  Both companies below have owners who support / are personally involved in dirtbiking in baja.
