KTMrad 507 Posted February 8, 2017 February 8, 2017 American Motorcyclist Association CEO to testify against motorcycle tariff American Motorcyclist Association President and CEO Rob Dingman will testify at a hearing of the Office of U.S. Trade Representative on Feb. 15 against a 100 percent tariff on some European motorcycles. "We object to this proposed tariff because it would harm American motorcyclists," Dingman said. "Significantly raising the cost of European motorcycles through a tariff could price thousands of families out of the motorcycle market." The tariff would affect motorcycles with engines displacing 51cc to 500cc from Aprilia, Beta, BMW, Ducati, Fantic, Gas Gas, Husqvarna, KTM, Montesa, Piaggio, Scorpa, Sherco, TM and Vespa. The American Motorcyclist Association and American Sportbike Racing Association expand sanctioning partnership The American Motorcyclist Association has expanded its partnership with the American Sportbike Racing Association to sanction Championship Cup Series races that run in conjunction with ASRA events beginning with the 2017 season. The 2017 season kicks off at Daytona Beach Bike Week, which includes the AMA-sanctioned Daytona 200. "ASRA is an important partner in growing both amateur and professional road racing in the United States," said AMA Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant. "We welcome the CCS riders to the ranks of AMA membership and their support as the AMA promotes the motorcycle lifestyle and protects the future of motorcycling in America." Southwestern Idaho Desert Racing Association charters with American Motorcyclist Association The Southwestern Idaho Desert Racing Association has chartered with the American Motorcyclist Association for the 2017 racing season, and the organization's events will be AMA-sanctioned. "We at SIDRA are excited to be partnering with the American Motorcyclist Association for 2017 and future racing seasons," SIDRA President Jeff Miller said. "We feel that an AMA charter adds a level of creditability to our series. With our clubs putting on national races like two National Hare and Hound events, and the premier ISDE qualifier, the Idaho City 100, it only seemed natural to give the rest of the series the same level of attention." Southwestern Idaho will host two rounds of the KENDA/SRT AMA National Hare and Hound Championship series, as well as Round 2 of the AMA ISDE West Qualifier series in Payette, Idaho, during the year.
