Come break it in the right way. 2 50 minute races on 2 different courses.

Noth Ocotillo - Truckhaven the next weekend.

Since no one in San Diego carries a decent supply of 8.9mm diameter valve shims, I'll be down until Saturday evening when my shim kit arrives.

I'd like to come out and watch this race Sunday!  If the KTM isn't up, I'll ride the GSA out and just watch.

That's correct.  There is a 1 hour valve check that goes along with the initial break-in maintenance.  Lots of discussions on the forums as to whether or not the 1 hour check was really necessary but I can tell you that it is and I'm glad I did the check.  Fairly quick and straight forward too....now just need the correct size shims and we'll be back on the road.

Did my first valve check at 150 hours on a '12 500 EXC. All in spec. It always started easy when hot and ran well. It's about due for a leak down test at 180 hours.

I've heard the 690 valves run MUCH longer before needing shims.  That's a huge selling point for the bike.
