Dan Diego 40 Posted March 15, 2016 I picked up my 990 ADV from All American KTM last week. Basic maintenance and a water pump rebuild. RJ said the coolant came out in globs. They'd seen it twice before, both on ADVs, and weren't sure what caused it but were fairly certain oil had not leaked in (as is common to this model). Said that the 990s run too cool and that may be a factor. Removed the radiator, completely flushed the system, refilled with new coolant and added a new cap. I hadn't noticed any drop in the coolant level and I hadn't added any in 13k miles. No harm, no foul. But it is a concern for the big Katoom riders. Anyone else seen this, KTM or otherwise? Suspenders 43 Posted March 15, 2016 If coolant was added at anytime some coolants do not mix.
Dan Diego 40 Posted March 15, 2016 You're right...I should've mentioned that, George. They did say that some coolants don't mix and will cause the "gel effect." But I truly don't recall adding any coolant in the past 13k miles. (But they say that the memory is the first thing to go...)
Ken S 164 Posted March 15, 2016 I mixed coolant on my RMZ and it cost me a top end before it had 20 hours on it. $500 lesson.
dirt dame 559 Posted March 15, 2016 I probably had some dissimilar coolant in my WR300 when it was new. I went to check the coolant level and found yucky stuff in the radiator. It looked like this. I flushed out the system and put fresh Honda Pro Line coolant in it.

If my memory serves me right, I remember you peeing in your coolant tank. This could of caused this!

Yeti 0 Posted March 18, 2016 Some 950's (and maybe 990's) had problems with a lot of casting sand being left in the cases and causing gunking up like that. The original owner of my 950 had the cases flushed very early on and said a good amount of casting sand flushed out. I don't know if that continued to be a problem for the later years or 990's.
