TdubLady 1 Posted June 17, 2015 Here's my ideal: Meet at Carl's Jr. 7:30-8, easy ride to Pine Valley. Major's for breakfast(I'll buy ), then I'd like to go to the cul-de-sac and practice my dirt skills. Need someone patient so I can work on some specific things. I'll need frequent stops and pauses, to ask stupid noob questions,and a wee bit of encouragement. Probably will wanna ride certain spots repeatedly until fears are conquered and skills honed. I figure this should take 1-2 hours and intend to be back home lunch(ish) Anyone? (crickets?) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Might help if you said exactly what you want to work on...cornering;rocks;sand;ruts; etc...Lark (to me) is a better place to practice...all of that is within 100 yards of the parking spot. but, the cul de sac IS closer. TdubLady 1 Posted June 17, 2015 Thanks Bikeslut. My specific areas of concern are: 1)Rear braking. I don't use it often on the street and with MX boots on it's a bit more challenging.I just need to practice what I learned at Supermoto School til I get a better feel. 2) Downhill-need to make that less scary-just by doing. I don't know these areas-Lark and whatnot. I don't need constant supervision,so if there's a good area to drop me off and let me play for awhile while you ride for real and come back to check on me,that would be fine,too. bikeslut 1 Posted June 17, 2015 Next time I go to Lark you can hitch a ride. For the cul de sac, just watch out for opposing traffic once you get on Bear Valley. rear brake modulation on the TW is pretty forgiving... you may have to adjust the pedal height which is easy to do. Last time I borrowed a bike, the pedal was way too high for my decrepit old legs, and I kept stalling. bear Valley does have some uphills and downhills so not a bad place to visit for skills building (except all the yahoos racing around there) The perimeter road of Corral is actually better... now that Darren has slowed down, fewer yahoos racing around the perimeter road. I really wanna do the 28th Noob ride, but I believe that's where we went(or at least similar riding) the day I crashed and I wanna be confident. But it's not safe to go by myself. So I'm kinda stuck in dirt limbo,so to speak. I don't feel I can sign on for that one unless I get some focused practice in first. I'll hitch a ride anytime you're willing to let me! bikeslut 1 Posted June 17, 2015 this time you are geared up... boots, armor and knee protection same crash= different result That being said, you need some time on dirt finding traction, and anticipating trail conditions (couldn't help but notice when we were on Pine Creek Road... you target fixate on the rough patches, when the perfect pavement was right next to you) again... bikeslut 1 Posted June 17, 2015 if July 12 isn't too hot, we can do a plated n00b ride at Lark, including some smooth fire road, bumpy fire road, rocky trails, tight singletrack, awesome views, smelly mines (ok... it's more of a hole than a cave) etc. I'll drive you out there and we'll do some drills... sand, whoops, bermed corners, uphill, standing figure 8s, back tire skids, etc Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I would take a run down to the end of Pamo and back to get warmed up, and then do Orosco. If you ace that, then there two other nice rides down that road. Other's can give you better info on those other roads. Add in that the trickiest part of the fire road is the FARTHEST away from everything. Lark has all the training spots right next to the parking area. Sand, whoops, slab climb, loose climb, singletrack, open wash, fire road.... that's my take anyway. and yes... it's farther away... pack a lunch and stay all day Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
