Welp, I am not much of one to write ride reports but for the first time ever I spent more time riding and less time crashing so I was able to take some pics. (Not saying they are any good, but i took some)

Goofy can write the details about where we went, the names of the roads and all that good stuff.

The trip was awesome, frankly I am mad at myself for not taking the opportunity to ride in Baja when i lived in SD. It had been nearly 10 years since I was last down there and still as awesome as i remember it. Great people, killer food, and in my opinion one of the most beautiful places i have ever been.

Cliff notes for the trip and accompanying pics.

1. Goofy got stung by a bee.

2. Goofy got lost even with a GPS and i had to rescue him before he got eaten by a pack of wild baja pitbulls.

3. Stop at Coyote calls for some of the best Chicken Panang Curry I ever eaten(apparently Ricks wife gives a killer massage too)

4. Lots of riding along the pacific included some awesome baja single track.

5. Long day of slabbing back and practically running out of gas about 15 miles from the tecate border

Cliff notes for the trip and accompanying pics.

1. Goofy got stung by a bee.

-- True, unfortunate and somewhat painful. The little bugger hit me in my neck, somehow got not only under my jacket but inside my undershirt and decided to kamakaze himself into my stomach. Abs of steel yes, but darn that sucker started to burn. I bet bboyle9 is still laughing, watching me try to punch myself to kill the bugger / only further embed the stinger deeper into my steel abs, all while buzzing down the road. My prompt bike dismount and stripping of all gear to find the stinger (still implanted in me) evoked cheers from the passing vehicles.

2. Goofy got lost even with a GPS and i had to rescue him before he got eaten by a pack of wild baja pitbulls.

-- Reality: No Goofy was lost at any time during this trip. The aforementioned Goofy was struck at the sight of some tasty bluffside single track and clearly communicated to a bboyle9 that the GPS track went down the main road AND turned sharply to the right just down the road where it clearly intersected with this sweet shortcut single track. Goofy thus blitzed the single track in pure enduro fashion and standing triumphant atop the final crest of trail, turned and waved to bboyle9 to meet him at the end of the short section. As time went by, Goofy became worried that bboyle9 was taking too long and thus looped back to the point where they had last been. He stayed there for a few minutes and did another loop around the single track and returned to the prior meeting point. After 10-15 minutes of waiting and riding the loop (approximately 800-1200 yards total, how could bboyle9 get lost!), the aforementioned Goofy sought chase of his apparently lost friend. "bboyle9 has gone hunting with his pops, he Knows that when you are lost you stay put OR return to the place you were last seen (if possible)" says Goofy to himself. "WTF where could bboyle9 have gone? Seriously, it's like he took the wrong turn and kept going for miles!" Well, speed the good Goofy did and a few miles down the road AND one turn off track, he came upon a lonesome bbolye9 with half a water bottle left, looking distraught, beaten and confused. After a quick emergency assessment of bboyle9's condition, Goofy pointed said bboyle9 180 degrees and proceeded to escort him to additional tasty bluffside single track and even go so far as to take a few pics of him along said single track. This single track led the aforementioned Goofy and said bboyle9 to the beach where they ripped down the sand, skimming the water's edge as the waves came in for miles before reaching a popular beach / dune area. Allegedly there is a picture of the aforementioned Goofy changing some fluids overlooking the beach crowd while atop a hill.

OK, so as usual, two sides to the story. My question is, how'd the 450 do?

OK, so as usual, the correct Goofy truth and then bboyle9's gibberish two sides to the story. My question is, how'd the 450 do?

Fixed.

The 450 ran great! It seems to run a little hot on the pipe but I also have the stock tip (not larger diameter GYTR tip) but it also makes the bike pretty quiet on the trail. bboyle9 mentioned at times that he didn't notice me if I was riding sweep and/or passing along side. Quiet is good, heat is not. I have a Boyesen Supercooler (larger water pump impeller / smoother & bigger channels in the pump cover/housing) that I'll be installing soon. I also will likely take the WR into the dealer to get the CO level set correctly. I boiled it once sitting in traffic looking for the taco shop in Ensenada after idling forever. I killed the bike, we sat in line for a while then just pushed it as we slowly crept forward and fired it up once we were in the clear.

The bike was very easy to ride and the suspension was great. No real complaints, I like the throttle response (hard pack / slippery dirt ECU map) and I had a lot of fun riding it around. I got 135ish miles from the 3.0 IMS but we were on fumes. The 450 has way more power than the 250 and the FI has a somewhat instant throttle response but the bike felt great on the open baja roads. I just installed the rear cush hub/wheel and it makes the bike smoooth on the roadway - I definitely like the mod so far. My experience on the 450 powerplant it makes me want to hold onto the 05 WR450 and maybe build it up some too.

The 250 needs the front master cylinder rebuilt and likely new steering stem bearings. I need to swing by George's to make some suspension changes but other than that the little bike didn't miss a beat the whole trip. It's not going to rip your arms from their sockets on the highway but it held it's own at baja speed and is a relaxing (and non-tiring) ride. Coming into Tecate the sun dropped and we were getting flashed because the BD Squadron is too bright. I put a bunch of electrical tape over the fairing to block the light but it was still pretty dang bright.

First ride on the new bike and it was lots of fun!

Lunch in Ensenada at La Guerrerense. Eat here. Just stop and eat here. One block inland from the flag pole. Do it.

It's located one block east of the flag pole in town. I had the pescado tostado and I believe bboyle9 got the sea urchin tostado. He says the peanut hot sauce (not sweet like Thai style) is incredible. We were the only non-locals there on a busy day so you know the place is good. A worker walked up to us, asked us if we speak Spanish then helped us order in perfect English and gave us some tips on other good restaurants. Goofy recommended!

Scenic riding. I could spend a Lot of time riding/exploring the baja coast via moto. I'd one day like to ride along the 7 Sisters, that is a big mile section of desolate baja coast.

We took our time, went hunting for fun trails and did some extra exploring. As the sun set, the colors started to pop and it was awesome.
