Drinking and talking about big KTMs

Recommended Posts

Took the big girl out for a ride with DanRider, over the truck trail on the back side of Palomar.

This was the first time I've been out in over 3 1/2 months!

Anyhow, I'm still experiencing issues with wiring and general set-up. Which brings me to my point.

I sure would like to meet up with someone who owns a big KTM and see how you've set it up. Suspension, bars, GPS, auxiliary lighting, fuse panel, etc. I could use some ideas.

I'll supply the brew, you provide the wisdom.

No real work needed, just some feedback on how to make my 990 ADV the best that it can be.

Thanks in advance!

He's a man of few words.

Will call, Paul.

Good to have you back Diego, Paul you could help in on his front suspension setup, it is soft and he has had some issues with it. I will let him share his story about that with you. His sag in the rear could use a small adjustment but not much. Yes he could use your advice on the electrical of how he should mount his relay box. I know for sure that if you help him he will provide good beer, but do not be afraid to ask him for some tequila, he knows his tequila.

I think you should have a garage party for all us twin riders. That way Bowers can enlighten all of us on, well, everything!

Yes, yes!

A bunch of KTM know-it-alls (me included) standing around our bikes in wife beaters drinking beer and tequila and making off-color comments.

Did I pretty much nail it?

Video to follow.

The Kug and Arnie would just make it perfect.

...and we could all bring guns and do target shooting inside your garage with blindfolds on....

Weld 86 bash plate and dial in your suspension ... nothing more needed.

And a sidestand relocator.

And HDB handguard system.

And a Euro headlight.

And suspension.

And tires.

And handlebars.

And a high fender.

And a steering damper.

And a Rottweiler air filter/intake/Snapout.

And a 2-1 Rottweiler exhaust.

And a remap.

And a left side auxiliary fuel tank.

And a narrow front rim, preferably an A60.

And plastic frame guard kit.

And a CJ Racing oil change hose.

And a gold chain.

And a shorty clutch lever.

And a ABS interruptus switch.

And a battery monitor.

Oh-

And heated grips.

And GPS mount.

And GPS power.

And a battery tender pigtail.

And Adventure foot pegs.

I got no stinking wife beaters just some slinky cycling shorts .

I pretty much have all of that and more. You haven't added any Ralley Rade stuff?!?!

My main issues stem from an aux fuse panel (Fuzeblox FZ-1) that I added to consolidate all my electronic crap.

And I have yet to find a great way to mount my Zumo.

This is the stuff I want the KTM gurus to address.

And a gun mount...

The race is to the depths of your patience/checking account.

OK, so continuing with my mods to this big girl,I'm bought the BDCW secondary fan. Since I'll be in there trying to find a place to place the auxiliary fuse panel anyhow, it'll be a good time to install that.

Are any of the big KTM owners interested in removing the SAS/canisterectomy? Or anything else to improve performance?

If so, I'm up for a beer swilling, wrench slinging, smack talking meet-up.

Let me know when and where. My place in La Mesa is great for drinking and "OK" for wrenching, but nothing like Arnie's barn.

Met up with PMB for some KTM talk. His big bike wisdom washed over me like an ice bucket challenge.

He stated, like RJ @ AA KTM did, "What the...?!?!"

Yeah, I need some wiring help.

Picked up some good pointers and will dedicate next weekend to some wire hiding, GPS mounting and ABS switching.

As many of you know, Paul is just another example of the good folks that haunt this site.

My sincere thanks and appreciation.

Aw, shucks.

Happy to help. Maybe you should just bring the bike back and we'll do it here.

Not guarantees, though. If it burns to the ground, it's on you :coolio:

I want to publicly confirm that PMB is a swell guy. He and I hung out most of yesterday working on my bike's sucky wiring. Huge thanks, Paul.

He has the patience of a zen master and the mind of an engineer...but the good kind (like Casey Jones).

I hope to pay it forward in the near future by assisting another SDAR rider with anything he or she might need.
