If you haven't seen this, you should.

Here's an example of a route I just drew by hand: (Mesquite to Bar 10)

This is where you'd find a list of my 'public' routes:

You can also upload GPX files although it currently splits each track into its own trip. Hoping this can change at some point. But what you can do is draw your entire trip up here, and when it's all completed as a single track, export it as a .gpx file and import it into Mapsource or Basecamp and cut it up into the sections you want for your trip.

I don't know when/if the DualSportMaps.com site will ever be back online to edit tracks and such, so this is a very nice alternative.

I talked with Justin (Butler maps) last week about their new GPS ride creating site (Ridingsocial.com) and he said they had "all hands on deck" and should be up next month. This site is supposed to allow "snap to" on trails which will just about eliminate the need for Dualsportmaps.com. It will be a membership site and I think he said around $10 a month which would be well worth it.

I'm very interested Afry.

As long as it has the ability to:

  • Upload
  • Download
  • Edit
  • Share
  • Search
  • Trip Types (street, dirt, dual-sport, etc)

It's going to do well being that it's geared towards motorcycle people

Roger, thanks. I register the free one and set a Iron Butt ride in less then half the time in took on the Harley Davidson plan your ride page. I like it already.

Hey all, just wanted to chime in as one of the founders/developers of http://ridewithgps.com. You can see we are heavily marketing towards cyclists, however our roots are in motorcycles. The site first started as a way for Zack and I to map our motorcycle rides, well before we started recreationally bicycling. Turns out bicyclists are a monetizable, paying audience so we pivoted towards them (as we became cyclists ourselves).

With that being said, 3/4 employees are avid dual sport riders, so we will always have features that are handy for on/off road riding. We are planning on doing the OBDR this summer as a work expense :heh: and are developing a few features to make planning a multi-day ride a bit easier. Here's what we have so far:

Thanks for the post, I know we'll be actively following the site and it looks like it has a lot of great functionality.

I'm very interested in when we'll be able to have a single trip with multiple tracks, as uploading a single GPS file with 20 tracks in it creates 20 individual routes.

Thanks for your hard work.

When ya'll planning on starting OBDR??

Not set in stone, but depends on this spring and how long it is. Summer is starting to fill up with famobligations so late June would be best. If we have persistent snow then it might be end of summer.

Maybe we need to get a couple boys from SoCal to head up and do this ride sometime!

Bump for this thread!

Does anybody have additional experience with http://ridewithgps.com/ or http://ridingsocial.com/ ? I am looking to replace http://dualsportmaps.com for drawing/editing GPS maps with the help of Google Maps and satellite imagery.

ADVbum's DS Rally Challenge thread seems like an ideal opportunity to draw out some tracks. I'm open to other ideas as well. Thank you in advance.
