recycled 0 Posted March 3, 2014 apparently there is an entrepreneur in Montana that has reverse engineered this tool for about $100 less than the original. Here it is for anyone interested. Dan Diego 40 Posted March 3, 2014 See theTire Tool Comparison (Baja No Pinch vs Kaurimoto): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72xATGltpYY The first is $70; the latter $180.
Covered in Dust 162 Posted March 3, 2014 I have the Kaurimoto tool, only used it once so far. Not really impressed yet, I might just need a few more times using it. Right now I'm faster with tire irons. CiD
Chris in Wildomar 0 Posted March 3, 2014 I have the moto tool and used it several times already and love it. Also let friends use it while on extended Baja ride, when we got back most of them ordered one for themselves. this new model looks to me to be pretty close to the same deal but a lot less cashola! Wintyfresh 46 Posted March 3, 2014 Glad somebody's done this! I picked up my Kauritmoto on one of the ADVRider group buys and can't praise it enough; it makes that initial step of getting the tire on the wheel way easier and also takes care of that last tricky push to seat it. I still get plenty of practice with my spoons out on the trail but when I'm at home I'm always so grateful to have this.
Dan Diego 40 Posted March 3, 2014 Well, OK then I'll give it a try. Three axel tube sizes are offered...any opinions on the best for the 990?

Oracle 195 Posted March 4, 2014 I almost bought one on the adv group buy but just couldn't fork out the triple digit price. At $69 I don't think I can pass it up. Thanks for the lead.
Dan Diego 40 Posted March 4, 2014 Maybe we can put one order in and save the shipping? It's $11 for no matter how many you order. I m up for one. I may order the larger diameter sleeve, too. Anyone else want one?
556baller 0 Posted March 5, 2014 Well, OK then I'll give it a try. Three axel tube sizes are offered...any opinions on the best for the 990? Let me know how it works, I'm curious about it too.
Bagstr 287 Posted March 5, 2014 Reverse Engineered. Back in the Day we had a different name for that verb.
Oracle 195 Posted March 5, 2014 I decided to pass once I read that you still need spoons/irons to take the tire off. I'm good with tire spoons/irons and I don't have a desire to carry extra stuff with me, so I really have no use for this after all.
Dan Diego 40 Posted March 5, 2014 Yeah, where I see this thing helping big time is on the stiffer sidewalled tires (Heidi K60s, etc.). Still, for $70, I may give it a go...
