Makes sense as the R&D and production molds are already in place for the Husaberg line. The article states a Husqvarna model line for 2014 - I'm assuming these will be the Husabergs with different colors because it is unlikely for KTM/Husky to develop a new bike by October. If this is the case, is it really a win for the Husky fan or moreso the best alternative being sold (twice in recent years)?

i read it as: Husqvarna name will continue to make motorcycles. Husaberg will be re-branded

in effect, a brand with a heritage will live on, even if it's a different company in reality

Not like Triumph, Indian and Norton re-births of late, when they grabbed a name and essentially started over... this is a bit different

I expanded my post after you quoted it. Husky will have a 2014 model line and they will be headquartered in Austria. The 2014 models won't be made in Italy (apparently) so what will they be? I'm assuming Husabergs.

In time Husky/Husaberg may grow to develop certain things but the KTM boss said he likes platform sharing so I wonder how unique the Husky brand will be from KTM. For us, the consumer, I hope it is vastly different - more options for us!

I hope I don't come across negative in any way, I am not. I'm merely trying to infer what KTM's strategic plans with the Husaberg & Husqvarna brands are based on the news brief.

Dont fully understand the reasoning for purchasing Husky. Combining the two H names into one doesnt really make much sense to me either. Kinda like Ford, Lincoln and Mercury..... whats the point with 3 basically the same cars. Perhaps purchasing Husky they will put out a few models for a couple years just to test the waters, get some write-offs and let er sink......... ?

Go back to the start of Bergs. They were Husky 4 stroke R&D that spun off on there own. KTM wanted the design so they bought it.

As a consumer I hope you're right. Product diversity and market competition are wins for us. Have you heard anything as to how KTM is going to mold the Husky line? How soon before we see Husqvarna at the Euro GPs and in American Motocross?

say hello to the new Husqvarnas- Husabergs with another different color plastic and minor differences from KTMs. As for my 11 and 13 X-lite based machines, all the parts supply will be doled out from the Italian plant where they were constructed. I dont think the "X-Lite", 449/511 are going to be built anymore and the whole 2 stroke line will be all KTM 2 strokes with different name plates (like Hbg is now).

My next bike will be #1 a TM or #2 a Beta, mark my word.

PS I rode Katos when most left coast people never heard of any other brands than Japanese big 4 bikes (300 and 250 2Ts). As for Huskys- 86 510TX, 99 TE610(ds), 04 TC450, 06 TE450(ds), 08 TXC450, 11 TE310(ds), 13 TXC310....

only the 86 was a Swede the rest were all Varese Italia machines. I'll be moving to the right coast at Pesaro or into the Tuscan hills next time around.

Yup, Husaberg will have 2014 models, then will be rebranded as Husqvarna. Everything that was Cagiva will be thrown away. The charm of the Italian chassis and engines will be no more.
