TrophyHunter 15 Posted April 1, 2013 If that's for me, I start the trip with ice in the bottom instead of water. Cold beer - flush water after the melt.

I really like these bungee cords. STRONG, adjustable and inexpensive compared to rockstraps. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&sqi=2&ved=0CE8QFjAC&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pepboys.com%2Fproduct%2Fdetails%2F9495252%2F&ei=FP9ZUbaACIq42wWcxoCoCw&usg=AFQjCNFRxAoANDT-FmtgzS1KZcR3gk0eKQ&sig2=RL0uSfXCAzFh6yiPuBCg_w

ADV Bum 205 Posted April 1, 2013 I really like these bungee cords. STRONG, adjustable and inexpensive compared to rockstraps. Heck, even cheaper! I do carry some of that as a "just in case" product. I personally don't like the plastic clip taking all the load on the rokstraps. Just because they are expensive does not make them the best.

Giant Loop - Check the Coyote http://www.giantloopmoto.com/ I have the Ortliebs.....they're HUGE..... ~45L capacity......used'em when Roger and I went around the Grand Canyon I also have the small Wolfman bags/Giant Loop Mojavi bags.......either will work as a "day tripper"......I prefer the Giant Loop Mojavi bags Picked up a Giant Loop Coyote bag that I've yet to use.....looking forward to putitng it to the test I have a Big Agnus Hog Park bag/pad - I really like the Big Agnus system of inserting the pad into the bag.... My tent is a cheapo Walmart special.....it's been "good enough" the couple of times I've used it..... No stove for me.......eat big at last gas stop and/or carry dry food to get by between gas stops..... As written before, best approach is to lay out all the "stuff" you want to take in a pile on the left and $$ in a pile on the right.......then cut the pile on the left in half (less is more) and double the $$..... Bagstr 287 Posted April 2, 2013 Evidently we have a Range of opinions as to how best prepare for travel. Travelling on a "Full Size" bike will be quite a different experience than on my 350. The 350 Requires a support truck, a GSA requires a credit card. Discussion Continues, Pay your money and take your chances.

Afry 1 Posted April 2, 2013 On the tent thing Do you guys all carry freestanding tents ?? I do because most times you do not need to use pegs unless there are high winds. For local trips in mild climate I use the $30 (on sale) Coleman Sundome. It has a heavy duty floor so no tarp is needed underneath and has held up just fine on a week long trip. I worry about heavy rains in it although it looks fine the fly is kinda small.
Bagstr 287 Posted April 2, 2013 Adventure 16 Tent Sale - MSR Hubba series 1 man $209 http://www.adventure....asp?itemid=141 For my nickle, a rain fly doesn't cut it. It could work If the weather cooperates.
bikeslut 1 Posted April 2, 2013 On the tent thing Do you guys all carry freestanding tents ?? I have used a traditional "pup" tent in the past... yeah- it needs pegs, etc., but packs really small. The flip side is I use a luxurious sleeping bag that is bigger than the tent. My tent has NO space for anything other than a sleeping adult. No room to put shoes on almost. Impossible to sit all the way up. But it packs down small and light

Afry 1 Posted April 3, 2013 I have a one man tent but only use it on one night trips, on longer trips I prefer a two man for myself and all my gear, it's also easier to get changed in and they don't take much more room when compressed.
FuzzyNugs 0 Posted April 3, 2013 I picked up an ALPS Mountaineering Zephyr 2 tent last year and it has been great. Amazon link The price has gone up a bit, but it's free standing so no need to worry if you are on a sheet of rock and packs down fairly small. My advice is to go on Amazon regardless of where you buy your tent and look at the different "packed size" dimensions. That was one of my top priorities for selection and Amazon helped out a lot by listing all the various dimensions and stats of many tents. Also, if anyone else has a personalized checklist like Afry, please post up. It's fun to see what people bring and sometimes you see something great that maybe you hadn't thought of. I'll be working on one soon and like fresh ideas.
