Left the house at 3:30 today on the Elefant. Headed out 94 to Lyons Valley,to Japatul, where I caught a glimpse of a dirt road and turned around toexplore it. Didn't go anywhere, but there was some horse trail single trackI've never seen before, got to explore it on the KTM. Continued Japatul toPine Valley, then Old Hwy. 80 to La Posta, took the powerline dirt road fromLa Posta (it's been graded, no more ruts) to the dirt road that continuessouth behind La Posta cafe, to one of my favorite dirt trails along BuckmanSprings. To Cameron Corners to stock up with a water and a beer. Then upbuckman springs to Corral Canyon, then took the Kiernan Cycle trail out ofCorral to Pine Valley. Stalled it on one uphill, rocky climb, so time for mybeer. Then up the trail to the main dirt road to Pine Valley (it's also beengraded, so not as rutted and bumpy) and had loads of fun sliding the Fantall over the place. Passed a family of dirt riders, and they looked at melike "what the hell is that thing doing out here" !! Gas and a Newcastle inPine Valley. Then up Pine Creek, the gate was open. Was going to do the DeerPark dirt road up Mt. Laguna, but the gate was locked, and they put up newsteel barriers so you can't get around the gate. So, at 7:00pm, continued on up the Supermotard road Pine Creek to the top of Laguna. Sunrise Hwy. to Julian, down to Santa Ysabel, to Old Julian to Wildcat. It was still just barely light enough, so I took another one of my favorite dirt trails thru the Res along Wildcat Canyon. Then back onto pavement, and came upon a major rollover accident on Wildcatsouth of the Casino. Then home at 9:00pm.5 1/2 hours of awesome, fun riding, with hardly any cars on the road !!Yeehaw !!

Wow sounds like a great ride! I need to find some of those roads you are talking about. You know of any good maps?

The Cleveland National Forest map has most of the dirt roads on them, and most of the backcountry roads. Available at the Map Store on Rosecrans, probably at REI or at a Ranger Station.

B) Sounds like a great ride. I've never hit the trails in north county But I've seen that look on peoples faces when I've taken my TDM over Santiago peak. They think your crazy taking a big bike into the dirt.
