I already didn't care for some of the things that BMW did to the line, but did like the addition of the Terra and Strada. And it's funny, because Husaberg is a blue bike with a KTM engine in it. I just don't want Husqvarna to end up being a red and white bike with a KTM engine in it. I don't think that there is much technology for KTM to get from Husqvarna, as for new technology in engines, the bigger Husqvarnas all have had the Kymco engines for the last two years. Afry 1 Posted January 30, 2013 Not sure what good BMW did....POS Strata and Terra look like Chinese junk to compete with....the KLR (with less travel)? Got rid of the TE630 that was certainly on par with the Orange 690 and I feel a better design for the intended use. Did some good with the 449/511 mating the G450X with the TE's. But all they really did was infuse cash to what end - to flip them to KTM so big orange could buy/eliminate the competition which means less choices for us. CalNub 0 Posted January 30, 2013 Agreed, they didn't seem to yield much from that giant investment of capital other than make husky seemingly less competitive with its European rivals. That's said, if husky is profitable you can bet ktm won't be closing up shop or eliminating them as a competitor, just pooling their profits. Bajaj owns 47%, Cross owns 51%. Stock Price appears to be up 15% since Nov 12. Regarding the Husky deal, I too wonder what is to be gained. Possibly production facilities in Norther Italy. Afry 1 Posted January 30, 2013 Well BMW supposedly paid 93 million Euros or 126 million US - lets see what KTM pays. Maybe we will see the direct injected 2 stroke Husky was rumored to be working on. The paint is just to "cover up" the design changes. If you look close you can see the use of some Husky engine technology tucked away in there..... From what they are telling me it will be named..... dirt dame 662 Posted January 31, 2013 I hope the new owner will use the same marketing expertise that helped with KTMs sucess, to raise Husqvarna's popularity also. Better advertising, aftersale parts and accessories, as well as race gear and clothing would all help a lot. BMW just isn't a dirt bike company, and blamed the "collapse of the dirt bike market" on their losses, when really they just weren't prepared to get serious about making a competitive line of dualsport and offroad bikes. Maybe now, the model lineup will get the overhaul that it really needs, and have some new models added as well. It's a good, solid marquee and deserves better than the treatment it got from BMW. They do mention an attempt to work together during the first 6 months. We shall see. As for BMW: "Its current core business consists exclusively of premium vehicles in the categories "Tourer", "Enduro", "Sport", "Roadster" and "Maxi-Scooter" from 650 to 1600 cc. BMW Motorrad entered the urban mobility segment for the first time in 2012 with the C 650 GT and C 600 Sport maxi-scooters. The next step in the expansion of the product line-up in this segment will be the series launch of the "C evolution" electric scooter in 2014."
