SDAR "Club Ride" - Laughlin/Bullhead City - Nov. 7-10/13

Recommended Posts

As many of you know, I've ridden/scouted around the Laughlin/Bullhead City area quite a bit in the past year since buying a small vacation shack out there last January........at this point, it's easy for me to dial up two or more fun filled days of GPS tracks based on my library of exploring........

I'd like to host a "club based" road trip/ride out in the Laughlin/Bullhead City area.......I've kicked off a lot of great friendships/experiences through SDAR and this is my way of giving back :)

Everyone take care of their own lodging plans at the AVI resort (bring the family?) - http://www.avicasino.com/

I'll take care of setting up the ride plan each day from the AVI parking lot.....

Arrive at the AVI on Thursday night (11/7), ride BIG days on Friday/Sat, drive home on Sunday (11/10).......

What's the riding like out there?......trip report from the last "boys trip" in December:

Hope to see many of you out there that weekend:

I've followed your ride reports up there. I am in Bullhead frequently for business but have never ridden the area. Been dying to explore it. If I can squeeze it in, I will be there. Put me on the definite maybe list.

One alternative for those with plenty of time/energy to burn would be to start/end the trip in Barstow :coolio:

Ride over to the AVI via Mojave Road on Thursday the 11th.....ride Crawdaddy's "stuff" on Friday/Sat.......ride back to Barstow on Sunday the 14th.......but that's probably more time/riding than most can work into the deal...

Folks certainly have the option of staying in Laughlin as opposed to the AVI.....it's a ~20 minute ride between the two locations.......Mojave Rd. ties into the River Road about ~4 miles north of the AVI.....the same intersection is maybe ~10 miles south of casino row in Laughlin (distances are off the top of my head and NOT accurate but you get the idea)......easy enough to direct folks from Laughlin to a central meeting loction......

Day one we'll probably meet at the AVI or at the start location (intersection of Mojave Rd. and the River Rd.) and ride on the west side of the river....

Day two we'll probably meet/start at the AVI and ride on the east side of the river

Plenty of time for me to work the details.......YOU start working your hall passes NOW ;)

Should be an easy sale.......you have 2.5 months to park a little $$ to the side and work up the courage to grovel for the time off at work/home :o:heh:

I can string together some things for the Big Bike bike crowd too.....no sense bottoming out the suspension and/or failing to make some climbs on some of the single track stuff....plenty of big bike friendly terrain.....

Teaser:

Man, if there weren't dropoffs on each side, I'd attempt it on the 950....but if I fell off the side, it wouldn't be purdy. Then all of you would have to get my bike up

The section in Erick's video will be a challenge on your 640.....and some even tighter/knarlier stuff is over in the OHV area off 163 (163 is the main road into Laughlin off 95)......but there are also many bypass options.....

I'll throw the more challenging stuff at everyone early in the morning when they're fresh and it's still cool outside ;)B)

I'll also likely shorten my usual loops in the Spring since it'll be toastier and folks may want to just hang out at the river/casinos in the afternoon...

You may find cheaper options in Laughlin........the Casinos are always running specials

Example for month of March (they'll start posting for April soon): http://www.webfulfillment.com/coloradobelle/CF/Col/EmailTemplates/2907.html

Either location will work.....the AVI and Laughlin are only ~15 miles apart.....

Friday we'll meet/kick off the day in the AVI Parking lot next to the Firehouse Coffee shop (good breakfasts/coffees) and then head out on Mojave Rd., etc....

Sat we'll meet/start at Rotary Park in Bullhead City......the distance from the AVI or Laughlin is nearly the same (~8 miles of pavement)....the park is a stone's throw from my house.....then we'll head over to Oatman for breakfast and launch out from there....

Thanks for the invite, heads up on the resort there it also offers an RV park if anyone is like me and would rather camp. Looks really nice and you are able to use all the facilities of the resort. Hope to make it out for the ride.

Yep, it's a KOA with dry camping and full hook-ups........they also have a golf course on site at the AVI if that's your thing.......looks pretty nice though I haven't played there (yet).

Likewise, the Riverside Casino in Laughlin has a large RV area too.....

The AVI and Riverside also have multiplex movie theaters "on site" if your family wants to take in a new show.....both have arcades for the kids......the Riverside also has a bowling alley.....

Rooms are generally pretty cheap.....they want you on site to gamble.....take a look at fuel prices (~600 mile round trip) and decide if it's worth dragging the RV/Trailer out for one or two nights.....might only make sense if you're planning on staying for a week.....
