X-country-Rider 0 Posted June 20, 2012 Last July i walked into Rocket for the first time to eyeball the Tiger800XC. At the time i was torn between the F800GS and the Tiger800XC. Each week my mind would change on what my next bike would be. Late July I walked in for a test ride and met Lance one of the sales guys he was friendly and gave me the keys. Needless to say i was impressed with the bike. When i got back to the shop Lance introduced me to the owner and we talked about the bike and the history of the shop. I walked in in August and was greeted by hey Craig. They remembered my name!! That would have never happened at San Diego BMW after one visit. You may disagree but i went to San Diego BMW for 3 years and they never knew my name. Of course i bought the bike and have gotten it serviced there. The techs are cool and invite me back into the service area once again never would happen at San Diego BMW. I took it into get its 12,000 service done in May at 18,800 miles and needless to say i was a little worried. The tech said not to worry 12K is a conservative figure and from now on just bring it in every 18K NOT 12K. I told them my budget and they kept the service within what i gave them. The service was 550 which was actually less than my service done on my BMW G650. Two week ago headed to work my inside back cap to my head lights came off. Its a round plastic screw on cap that allows you to get into the guts of your headlight. I was thinking crap how much is that stupid plastic cap going to cost. I stopped in the shop and went back to service and took one off the bike they were assembling to show the tech what i needed him to order. He said go ahead and take that one. I was so pleased no order no cost he just warrantied it right there. I went into the sells floor and told Lance how much i was pleased with there service and he showed me a numeric list of Triumph shops in the state of California. The list is generated by Triumph based off customer surveys they send out periodically. Rocket was the number one dealer in the state of California based off customer surveys from corporate. Pretty good!! I know some people don't like Rocket but I'm very pleased with the shop.
Dan Diego 47 Posted June 20, 2012 Same experience, Craig. Lance, Mark and the other guys at Rocket are super cool to deal with. I can't say enough good about them, and they really do know their customers by name. Glad to hear others are seeing what I'm seeing. bluefin2na 0 Posted June 20, 2012 Really? The floor salesmen are not the greatest, but I guess I should be happy about that. I parked my truck, with a ramp in the back, and $15,000.00 bucks in a bank bag. I went in to buy the 990 ADVENTURE BIKE, One that was looking at for months and months. I wanted that bike so bad. The guy told me " this is a real adventure riders bike " when asking questions about this bike I had to follow him around the store. Keep in mind, i work right around the corner from them and would go into that place 2 times a month just to look at the bike. With each question, I was looked at like i was stupid, and wasting his time. So with that i went to buy my Tractor KLR650, which while not a REAL ADVENTURE BIKE, I saved over $10,000.00 so i guess i should go buy them lunch. I,m still going to buy my 990, as soon as this KLR craps out and that might be a very long time, but I wont be spending a dime in that place no matter who much i save
CalNub 0 Posted June 20, 2012 My last experience there was not the most positive either. Ordered one of their 3/4 helmets for my girlfriend, forget the brand buyt I think it was Nexxt, or something similar. They said the helmets ship from nearby and it should arive within a few days. 2 weeks went by without a phone call. We stopped in to see what the hold up was, they informed us that the company had moved their warehouse to indiana and the shipping times were impacted accordingly. Now I could understand a lack of communication if I had ordered this helmet from some cheap motorcyclecloseouts store online, but the thing cost me $380 plus tax, and we went to Rocket to keep it local. Instead, they offered no consolation, nothing to encourage future business except an apology. It took another weeks still ebfore the helmet came in and when it did they still wouldn't offer any kind of deal. I'm sure they're friendly in the service department (I can say the same from SD BMW) but I would call into to question their understanding of what it means to run a business. X-country-Rider 0 Posted June 20, 2012 When i took my bike in to have my center stand mounted and a few other things put on last Feb they asked how i was getting to work. I said i was going to call a friend. The owner then asked one of the techs to take me. So i got a ride free from the shop to the top of Point Loma. Everyone has a different experience but they've won a loyal customer here.
baldbeemer 0 Posted June 21, 2012 Good for you that you had a good experience with Rocket. SDBMW is a supporter of this club. They have hosted meetings, fed us, and the Mistress and I have had excellent interactions with the sales and service staff. I don't see the need to knock a supporter of this club just because you had a positive experience at another dealership.
eddie 0 Posted June 21, 2012 hat would have never happened at San Diego BMW after one visit. You may disagree but i went to San Diego BMW for 3 years and they never knew my name. I walked in to SDBMW once about 3 years ago and have been greeted by name every time since. I was a pain in the ass about choosing a bike, but was never pressured and always made to feel welcome. I was routinely invited through the service bay to see my bike and the other goodies. They support SDAR, Low Cal 250, and a host of other charities and events. Host you say? Yes, and supply free food and drink at these events. I have been to Rocket a time or two - once during the course of a Triumph NA gig - and was ignored until I spoke up, and was then treated as an intruder. Differing perspectives. It's like 2 blindfolded men being asked to describe an elephant's trunk.

I bought my first bike at SDBMW and it was my only experience with bike shops so that's what i had my experience at Rocket to compare to. When i was torn between the F800GS and the Tiger800XC the experience at the shops is was tilted my decision to the Tiger. That's my experience you may have a different one. PastaPilot 17 Posted June 21, 2012 Good to hear a + review at Rocket. I've been thinking of heading down there to look at a Royal Enfield for awhile but just never do.
