Desert Dash 2012/ Me & Red Mamma !

Recommended Posts

This was the frist Desert Dash for me so I was stoked to be in the event. Arrived friday night for the check in. All went smooth, unloaded and slept in the back up my pickup. Woke up at 600 and finished up last min prep, roll chart, gas, food ect. Weather was perfect and dressed light. At 645 I made a left out of Butterfield and basically bombed it through sec 1 and 2 before stoping to take a pic. I liked the pace. The guy that was riding the ktm Adventure bike in front of me on section one impressed the ---- out of me. He was flinging that bike around like a xr400. After lunch and a quick fuel stop I was off to sections 5 and 6. My goal was to ride through these sections and opt out the difficult section. I grew up riding these two areas quite a bit and was vary familiar with my surrounding especially superstion. So fast and smooth.

The railroad road to Plaster City was a blurr for me. Section 7 was the same & smooth. At the Texico filled up 1 1/2 gallon not bad for 93 miles. Ice cream sandwich check! So sections 8-11 I was really looking forward to riding and slow a little and take it all in.

Mud caves post-14875-008049900 1330760263_thumb.jp

I ended up doing the Mud caves gps loop in section 10 and was cool. Lot of people out and about and exploring around hiking ect. A short hwy ride and I was back at the ranch at around 5pm. What a killer day! No crashes bike ran like a top, no issues, and had a load of fun. Ended up logging 220 miles and burned just under 4 gallons and half qt oil.

After a few beers and some bike prep is was off to bbq dinner. Thank you to the guys that cooked that amazing feast. It was one of the best meals ive ever had. So So good.

A great raffle followed with great prizes. Thanks to all for their donations. Vary cool!! In my food coma a wondered back to camp and enjoyed good story with fellow campers around the fire and a hint of Moonshine. Sleep Good to night.

Day 2

Much different this morning as the riders where slower to rise. Todays ride for me we just to cruz and take it all in. At 7 I turned out of the ranch and was off to Pinyon Mountain. My first time through this section and it turned out to be my favorite but challenging.

Fish creek was Awesome!post-14875-036229100 1330794187_thumb.jp

After fish creek I started to zone out or in and rode 2 and 3 sections with no stops. Buy the end of section 3 I was over the rock washes and glad to see the pavement. I was have some ass issues and my right hand had no feeling. I Knew going in to this that my stock seat sucked but now I really knew, Rippin that thing off as soon as I get home. My steering damper was at home, long story. My right had little feeling. So I bailed out at section 4 taking s-22 back to lunch.

After Lunch and a fuel stop I was off up the Montezuma grade and through the jasper one of my new favorites as well. After that I bailed out on s-2 back to camp as ive done Rodriguez before. I pulled in to the ranch at 115pm and was stoked to finish with no mishaps. Red Mamma ran great besides burning oil she was perfect. Pre rideing up to this event payed off as I felt pretty good . Total miles logged where 345mile and burned about 6 gallons sweet.

Over all it was a great event. Thanks to all the people that put the event together and creating such killer loops. The food was great and the ranch was a vary cool. I will be back Desert Dash 2013 Cheers!!!! Brando & Red Mamma :torch:
