danrider 5 Posted February 23, 2012 I was in my favorite motorcycle store today and the KTM rep was just in. I was part of a conversation that was discussing my new EXC 500 when the conversation went to a new lineup of KTM Adventure bikes. I heard in the conversation that the 990 will no-longer exist after this year and the KTM will be coming out with a 1200 Adventure and a 800 Adventure at the end of the year. One thought might be that they are going head to head with BMW on the GS 800 and GS 1200 adventure that they offer, this is just a thought. bikeslut 1 Posted February 23, 2012 why a 690 adv and an 800 twin? Can I assume the 690 is a single? If so, I totally "get it". KTM is not fighting Japan "toe to toe"... they can't win that battle by offering a bike to compete with Honda's line-up... So they offer a niche for every type of rider 690 adv is, to me, a dirt worthy bike that can rack up the miles and the 800 is a long distance bike that is dirt worthy... see the difference? Ok... maybe not much of an obvious difference, but I get it. They are doing the mods that so many people "think" they are going to do, and they don't. Taking on the 1200GS doesn't make much sense to me... the 990, while maybe not as week long comfortable as the GS, makes plenty of horsepower and torque for pretty much ANYthing, doesn't it? anyway- more appreciation to KTM for pushing the other players to improve. But judging from that pic that was posted it looks like they will have a new lineup. It is just nice to see a manufacture update the bikes.
