    We made goal!

Thanks so much for all the generous donations from all the members here over the last few days. We made goal and topped 1200 dollars just now at 7:40 a.m. with the last donation by Bp619. We can now plan to keep the SDAR website financially fueled for another year, while we figure out how to give it better brand appeal and a facelift.

Sorry. I was confused by the top quote. I thought you didn't like Linode.

By the way, Leaseweb is very nice server company with easy navigation tools. I already have access to the site and know the customer service people by name over there. They are very helpful.
  4. I remember that hill, and that rattler.😏
  5. We (not the royal we) at SDAR are contemplating holding a riding event this spring. It would be called Mountain Dash and would tour dirt and paved roads in east San Diego County. The organization needs some operating money and is looking to bring all our friends back together. We are also considering making the event a benefit for the land use organization San Diego Off-Road Coalition. We are thinking of having a one day poker run starting in Escondido, going over Palomar Mountain with either up Nate Harrison or south grade. Checkpoint on top, then down east grade, 79 to Mesa Grande, take dirt over by Lake Southerland (possible checkpoint). Then up towards Julian and turn in Pine Hills to dirt road all the way to Viejas Casino area (possible checkpoint). Then over to Buckman Springs and to Corral Canyon (possible checkpoint at 4 corners) Choose routes at CC. Then back to Buckman Springs, then west on 94 to Marron Road and up and over Otay Mountain (checkpoint at top) At bottom of Otay Mountain we end at Pio Pico Campground. We rent group site and find who has winning poker hands, raffle and BBQ. Anyone can tent camp there. We are considering charging $100 per entry including event T shirt and dinner. We are considering giving one raffle ticket per entry and getting some great ADV prizes. Also prizes for best 5 card stud poker hand, second best hand and worst hand. All proceeds would be split with San Diego Off-Road Coalition and their fight to keep public land open for off-road recreation. Planning meeting coming soon. Probably on the 22nd. More information on that soon. Seems like a good solution to running an event, since it's a bit too late to plan the usual Desert Dash. Thoughts?

    We made goal!

We used to have lots of smaller club rides back in the day. Not many rides are posted on this forum, these days, and some of those are not very coherent or detailed, leaving a lot to be desired both in the invitation and the resulting ride report. What are people supposed to make of these cryptic postings? We have some good ride posts, but we need more. A big event is nice to keep the club's name visible and memorable, but we really need lots of grass roots participation also. We used to have rides that had up to 20 or 30 people joining in, and while I don't generally like rides that big, it's fun to have them once in a while. Kawee put on great newbie rides, one of them complete with a home made burrito lunch stop, as I recall. Seems like there were 3 or 4 Big Bear rides per year that drew a good crowd (and by crowd, I mean a dozen or less riders). We probably need more meet and greet supper get togethers as well, and more tech days, just more socializing in general.

Plans for New Club Event & Other SDAR Stuff

It's the same on other forums also. 100-200 people per hour online at Cafe Husky, but only 5 of them are logged in. Most people don't want to join or log in. They just want to look, not participate. That website has over 32,000 registered members, but only a handful regularly post. Social media has taken people away from private, small sites that used to flourish.

As of 4:55 this afternoon, the club has received just over 1100 dollars in donations. We are less than 100 dollars away from the goal. Thanks, Socalhodaka, for today's donation!

The link we have on the home page is a nice permanent feature, ready for a donation at any time. As of 2 pm today, we are at 546 dollars....thanks to two more donations. I don't really remember what Advrider looked like before. I can tell that they use Xenforo software (preferred by a majority of forum style websites), and they are using a basic style layout.

Plans for New Club Event & Other SDAR Stuff

We had 7 members turn out for the supper/discussion last night. Good food, lots of thoughts and ideas shared. We will move forward to see how the permit situation looks, and there were a couple of other issues that need to be addressed. The next event meeting will be announced for sometime in the middle of December. We are now about one third of the way to monetary goal for keeping the forum up and running for 2022.

What does SDAR mean to you?

Thanks. I usually do put them on the calendar. This one came up sort of suddenly, and I wasn't sure if I would continue on or cancel it, before finally deciding to continue, no matter what.
