Since I got my 02 520 a few months ago, I have not ridden it more then around the block a few times. So today I thought I would get some stuff done to be ready for the dirt. First oil change. Loosen the main drain plug! Crap it must be torque to the moon. A couple taps with a hammer and came off, though the corners are a little rounded now. The upper screen is to tight, I'm worried about rounding it off. The lower screen allen has been replace with a 10mm nut, same it is so tight I'm worried about it rounding too. Should I try heat?? I don't want to screw them up, though they seem to by already. If I get them off I see they will need to be replace with new ones. Kelly

What should I do? Help KTM 520 oil change

The oil out of the main drain looked pretty good and the two screens looked good also. I have not pulled the two main filters yet. I think the bottom plug must have been a Brap already with a 10mm head on it but still over tighten. I found the lower plug from STR Racing and it has a 13mm head. Here is the Brap plug with a 10mm head Both $20 Unless they carry either aftermarket ones at All American, I will get what ever they have as well as the OEM for the other holes. I hope they stock the OEM ones, I will be up there tomorrow. I will also look for a couple new sockets from Snap on. -

Thanks for all the support and words of encouragement. I almost gave up on that bottom one. I used heat, Aero Keroil oil, hammer, bigger hammer, chisel, punch, and vise grips. I will order 3 new plugs and o-rings tomorrow and start getting the new tires mounted. Look forward to getting on the trail we some of you. Kelly -

Vice Grip? - you're not gonna re-use'em anyway......lock on with vice grips and back'em out......then replace with proper bolts/set at proper torque...... Ok I made some head way. Two down one to go. For the main plug the 13mm box wrench with a whack from the hummer took care of it. The 13mm plug on the side near the shifter gave some problem. I took a 1/2 inch deep and hammered it on tight over the 13mm bolt head, then a few whacks with the hammer and then air impact gun took care of that one. The 10mm on the bottom plug is now round. I tried the 13mm over it to get some good taps with the hammer and vice grips but they keep slipping off. I tried a few hits with a chisel on the big washer part but no budge. Going to sears a little later to check out those sockets for rounded off nuts. What a pain. Now I have the day's to start riding with you guys. -

Any one know about the sockets that put the pressure more on the flat part of the bolt and not the corner? -
You're a lot more patient than I'd have been..... I didn't say it right. I was lucky that I found a great wife on the 3rd try, now going on our 10th year of marriage. And it was her idea I become a stay at home dad.

Having only one job since high school, 26 years at the Escondido Times Advocate/North County Times Birth of my daughter Kaylie now 16 and loves motorcycles. Getting lucky with my 3rd wife and now on our 10th year. And the most life changing for me was bringing Aiden home from a Russian Orphanage at 14 months old http://www.aidenrussia.blogspot.com/ Kelly

Ken, thanks to you and your famliy for opening up your place for us. The food was great, thanks Bluefin also for the fish. Your pool is wonderful as well as meeting all the SDAR members. I will not try to put names to the photos, I'm sorry but I met so many so forgive me. What a great day. Thanks, Kelly

Ya, have you ever had a tree branch apply the front brake for you! That hurts.

I will say that I did run the Acerbis Rally II Handguards on my DRZ and never had a problem. They seem very sturdy and as the photo show's they did get hit . I can't recall ever going down real hard on them.

Yea that's a dang good price. Like dealer cost. I might get two.

Recently I acquired a 02 Husqvarna CR 250 in a lien sale. Never have owned a modern mx bike, OK 2002 is pretty modern to me for MX and I now can't wait to join some of you on track day's. Now I must say its a good thing I didn't pay anything for this bike because trying to get info and parts has been a nightmare. I joined Huskytalk and Cafe Husky, but a 2 stoke semi modern is pretty much non existent. The bike had already new wheel bearings and sprockets, the plastics, seat and handle bars were shot as well as the Clutch basket. So first thing was to see if the bike ran, yes fired right up great. So I dropped the cash for a clutch basket, WOOOOO! later I found out that Rekluse has a complete one for the 02 for just a little more the what I paid for the basket. I put the clutch on and Yee Haa it all works good. Now I found a complete set of UFO plastics for a little over $100 and a seat cover from Ceet and the bike is looking good. Now the plastic set didn't come with a front number plate and I cannot find one anywhere, I tried a KTM one but it don't fit right. So any help here on where to look? Next just a little tune up on the brakes and I will be ready for the track. Oh and try to find a place to park it!

Is this a cool place or something? I'm just wondering about the need to put it in the member only area. I must not have the right password to enter? I have this feeling I'm missing some epic stuff because I need a password to see it. Cool bikes and rider photos running on awesome trails. I think I'm a member in good standing, Throphyhunter, Dirtdame and Jayden have seen me in person. Throphyhunter (Ken) even came to my house. How about it can I come in? Thanks Kelly

Here is two of my most memorable rides. This one is Vermont in Oct, my first time riding in woods like this. And my first tent camping trip on the Harley.

Winners of 2009 AMA Vintage Grand National Championships
socalhodaka replied to KTMrad's topic in AMA Press Releases
That's pretty cool you could win a Grand National Championship racing one race. When I raced last year for the AHRMA National Championship I had to race a min of 4 races, and use the points from my best 6 races out of 12 total races. -
Jay, I can get either one. If you look at the GoPro setup the used at NCY, its on the number plate and the footage was pretty cool. Kelly

That looked pretty cool, but I didn't see much sideways action. When I was into quads getting it sideways was the most fun, pitching it in a hard 180 or side hill on a big dune hanging off the side. Yea the into all those parts, they must be checking that stuff out in R&D. Still looks fun.

Live Oak Springs Track
socalhodaka replied to ShocknAwe's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
Shock, the video is cool. Where is your camera mounted? That's the first MX track I have ever seen with Arrow markers that tell you when to slow down. It looks like a cool time for a camping get together with some fun track time. Kelly -
I had the type of bed extender ramp when I had a F250 and really liked it. I bought it at Kragen Auto parts, we still use it at the shop to unload Harley's when they are trucked in. It also has a little bow to it, so loading a street bike will low center it the bike would not get hung up at the tail gate. I still needed and do now with my Toyota use my center stand to step up into the truck bed as I walk the bike up. What's that guy in the photo supposed to do now that he has no momentum, balance that bike as he steps up into the truck? I can't do it like that. Kelly

Entry level MX racing

For you folks that have been ripping up the new Pala track but have never been in a real race. Check out the modern support class at CALVMX. The track is really tone down for the vintage bikes but the modern bikes are having a blast. Its a good way to get you feet wet and see what its like to be on the line with twenty other bikes waiting for the gate to drop. Nice big table tops, big berm corners. You don't need to be a club member to race either, but if you like it support the club its only $35 a year and they have there own private practice track opened 7 days a week. Check it out. Yesterdays race at Perris Raceway had almost 200 entry's. Personal note: my daughter beat the boys in the 100cc vintage novice class. -
Jason, I think is coll to now say I own a Husky. But what a pain I'm having getting any after parts. I just drop a ton of cash on a clutch basket. Yamaha YZ 125 have been pretty much the same like thur 99-03 and you can pick them up anytime. I did a complete new top end for just over 400. If you want to try our's at the track lets go. I'm in Oregon now and will be back July 11th. Oh yea they say than a small bore bike is the best trainning tool.Kelly

Jay, the chain that we put on you yellow green sticky bike was a 520 O-Ring Chain. To use the extra master like we had on your WR DS bike you would need to use the little press tool. I guessing that the chain on your WR is a O-Ring, I'm sure in a pinch you could use a standard non O-Ring master link on a O-ring chain.
