As an ex Backpacker i can attest to this 100%. Light is not always Right. I tried to be a gram weenie but ran out of $$ quick. I was never a "I went X amount of miles or checked of Trailhead A, B & Z". It was always the journey, sounds and sites i craved. I often stayed for a while at a waypoint because the area just felt right and didn't see a need to go further. I went from Stainless Steel cookware (Pot, Cup & Plate) to Boy Scout stuff to Military Surplus to Titanium. Love Titanium for it's lack of triggering even a postal scale but HHAATTEE everything else about it. Titanium boils water in 3sec but is cold by the time your cup is full. Boil water IN the Ti cup and your lips are gone for a month from the water and container burns. makes some grub in a Ti pan and good luck getting it clean cause regulating the heat is never going to happen as it is on/off. Weight vs Efficiency is key for me. Now i use a GSI Haulite pot and Pan. Here is my still used SP Ti cup that i use at home on occasion. If you recall i am a cheap bastard. You can pay big $$ for Silicone lip protector things or use what is around you.

Grabbed the Old Man for a quick ride today from Ramona through Sunrise Hwy, Alpine then back home through Cuyamaca before i do some last minute gift shopping. Wore my street helmet as my Bell MX-9 Adventure is crazy loud after 65mph even with earplugs so no video just a few cell phone pics. Gave the barista at the coffee joint a big tip aka X-mas present. Ride safe and enjoy the holidays

12/23/22 Ride with Dad
cmbthumper replied to cmbthumper's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
No idea really. Good coffee though Me too. All i asked is if he wanted to go get coffee before i finished my shopping. I played a trick on the old man figuring i would have a clearer head for dealing with the other late shoppers. Any day but Mon or Fri i am down for that road but not ready with the Big Bike yet as i am still slow dancing with her. -
12/23/22 Ride with Dad

Oh yeah I waved to a rider in that area. What a beautiful weather day it was. I don't have cold weather riding gear so it was borderline cold. Hope you had a safe ride. I'm a cheap bastard so trying Locus Maps on my phone before doing research on dedicated GPS units. It says a GPX file was created but not sure if it shows up here. 2022-12-23_09-32.gpx -

I thought they were Ultra (On another bike i guess) but they are not. All my bars are 1-1/8" and in KTM bend due to my wrists but i don't have the mounts. See my For Sale Ad
-
Have used on all sub 500cc bikes, 1-1/8 Bars and recommend these in order. I will not run a bike without handguards. I suck bad enough that i need them way more than the bike. I will not run HDB unless it has two or more pistons due to the mounting system inducing too many vibs. Cycra Ultra Probend CRM ** I have a Brand new set that you can buy if you want Cycra Probend Enduro Cycra Probend CRM Enduro Engineering Evolution Debris Deflectors ** I have a Brand new set but in KX Green Tusk D-Flex Pro Handguards Acerbis Rally Profile Handguards ** I am not Tobey Price and my hands are longer insured like his so these are No Bueno for dirt but ok for street IMO. I'll PM you my # I am a total noob so i couldn't say on the Mains. All info i have and researched based on my mods say 172 to 185. Carbs are still out of the bike. I still need to set the float level, put the TPS back on etc. I have a few potential buyers on Sat-Sun for some of my bikes that i have for sale so i won't get to anything this weekend more than likely.

As my enjoyments grow for dirt and street riding i often change my mind, sell a bike and get another until i am satisfied. I don't get to ride much due some ongoing medical conditions but when i do, i want nothing but a Sh*t eatin grin on my face, even if it is only for a few hours. I always wanted to try a "Big" KTM so i started my research and hunt about 6mo ago. A few popped up that i would have jumped on but i still had bike for sale. No sale No buy is how i keep my sanity. Then this monster of a bucket list bike showed up and i was right in the middle of a sale of my KTM 525. Figured it would be gone by the time things went through. Contacted the seller and communicated i was very interested but had to have some sales go through first and would totally understand if it sold by the time i called him back. Well, my bike sold, i called the seller and i now own an AMAZING bike with INCREDIBLE history. Some of you will know this bike without question when i say who owned further into my short story. It will likely be unrecognizable now as the previous owner (Wont say his name without his permission) and SDAR member (Don't know his member name) i bought it from updated, upgraded, upgraded some more and poured a lot of long nights and put a ton of care into it before i came along. Check out the Upgrade list i compiled from the For Sale ad and 6" book of receipts and notes. I honestly have no idea the exact dates Crawdaddy purchased it and when he sold it to the Own i bought it from. I love bikes with history but was too excited to remember to ask. Onto the show... Before: Last known pic i could find of Arnie Fry's bike when Crawdaddy purchased it from Christi (Arnie's wife) After: Yeah tell me about it. I am certainly a lucky man. I have 10% of the skills needed for this bike but 1000% drive to tame this beast as best i can when i can. When i get scared i'll hop on my 07' KTM 450 EXC for a little back to reality. Currently in Surgery for coolant leaks on the Samco hoses. Took me 45min to finger out how to remove the tank (Don't have a manual yet) but now it is an easy fix. Look forward to it cooling down a little to test ride it.

Ori Flamme Canyon Ride 11-26-22
cmbthumper posted a topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
Took my dad for a after Turkey Day ride. Unfortunately due to the amount of crashes my Dad had as you will see in the multipart videos he was done by the end of Rodriguez Truck Trail. He is literally done with Dirt riding and i will be selling his DRZ soon. The weather and my KTM 450 EXC were perfect all day long. I LOVE this bike expect for the Sh*T Dunlop D606 on the back. -

I am terrible at pictures but grabbed these and Forgot to post them. -
Appreciate you asking. Carbs, jets etc got sonic cleaned for 1hr on each side last weekend. Need to set/check the floats are at 4mm, put back on the TPS (Took off for cleaning) and adjust if needed. Throw them back in the bike, double check everything and hit the start button with fingers crossed i didn't mess anything up. Then Sync the carbs with my Carb Tune and throw it the rest back together. I am slow and this is very intimidating for me so i am taking my time.

He has been on pavement for 40+ years so i doubt that will happen. He has a Ducati Multi that is still in Rain mode cause it is too fast. Like you see in my video's i pull over often whether in the dirt or on the street not for him to catch up but to make sure he is still coming. He feels bad and thinks he is slow and it makes me wait for him which i tell him is 100% the opposite. I'll wait for him or anyone anytime or any length of time as long as the smiles per mile are still happening. Sand is his wort enemy. He never got the hang of it growing up riding in the desert or now. He put $1000 on a Scott's BRP damper and shoving the forks high into the triple clamp thinking it would solve his problem. Short answer is that it didn't. I've begged him countless times to reach out local riders like here in SDAR that ride almost everyday so he can tag along to get more "Seat Time" and learn by riding with other experienced riders. The answers is always "I don't want to slow anybody down". -

1000% agree and i can say with certainty it will be 100000000% i will not be at that age. He is like me or vice versa. Once his mind is made up that is it so i doubt he would ride a honda monkey in the dirt. Yup 2001 DRZ400E plated in AZ Agreed. When i bought my XR400 in 2019 it was a package deal with my Dad's DRZ. I wanted him to ride with me no matter the cost. So, i gave it to him for Fathers day. He used his old AZ address and registered it there so he could ride it on the street here. For his age and skill level his does way beyond what he should do and can do IMO. He taught me to ride, race, wrench on bikes and riding with him at any time or age is beyond fun. He chased me growing up and i have no problem chasing him. I do understand giving up the riding hat though. -

^^ Thanks for the comments. Unfortunately i did not take him anywhere as it was his choice to ride this area. We did it last year and he crashed just as much and we have done a lot harder rides. He could give 2 squirts about getting hurt but this time he said it was all about what you mentioned in his "depth perception and general eye sight is not so good, neither are my reflexes or stamina". He said he is simply to old for any terrain other than asphalt. At 77 yo i see no shame in that. I told him to get a new CT125 or a TW200 but he said No. -
Motorcycle bumper carrier - MotoTote Sport
cmbthumper replied to moto_rph's topic in Luggage and racks
Very nice carrier. Will be interesting to see how the mesh holds up. I use my Black Widow every so often for ease of use. The heaviest bike i hauled was my VFR800 from Palm desert. ZERO issues with this carrier since 2019. I hated how they swayed even with a light bike so i use a tie down from the foot peg to the truck chain holes at the received. It doesn't sway a bit and forget it is back there. Only thing i hated was the front wheel chalk thing. I bought some chinese ones cut them in half to fit in the rail and made one for behind the front and rear tire. Welded nuts on the bottom so they come on/off easily. -

My Dad convinced me to take a quick run down i think it is called Rodriguez Wash then UP Ori flamme on Saturday for a quick morning ride. We are going to trailer down (Easier for us) at 830am to Banner and go in at Chariot Canyon about 930-10am. Like moto_rph i have bad knees. Since BF deals are a short timeframe, i will just give a definite YES to knee braces. I wear Mobius X8 braces if that matters.

KTM only made one bike in 03' so i am looking forward to learning what it is.

Bike Swap Sunday....11/20
cmbthumper replied to moto_rph's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
Gotta have options right. Once my research is generally done my lists you can usually just throw a dart and id be happy to own it. Appreciate the offer but I would never ask to ride your T7. If i liked it i would get Lorena Bobbitt'd for spending more than i should. -
Bike Swap Sunday....11/20
cmbthumper replied to moto_rph's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
Any dates for the next one as i am looking for my next ride to buy. Looking at in order: Honda Africa Twin (Jesse and I are swapping bikes 1st or 2nd week in Dec) 2019-Present KTM 690 Enduro or SMR 2018-Present Husqvarna 701 Enduro or SMR Honda XR650L (Had the 250, 400, 600 x2 and 650R so i basically get what it would be like to ride) Suzuki DR650 Yamaha WR250R Honda CRF300L Suzuki DRZ400 S or SM (I have an 01' DRZE and love it but registered in AZ that expires next year and i don't live there so...) Kawasaki KLX300 or 250 Yamaha Tenere 700 (They don't exist in America so on the bottom of the list. I hope one of those Gray market ones come available someday) -
