Not really a build but i will be doing some modifications from time to time. I don't have cold weather gear so i piled on what i had and probably looked like the kid from Christmas Story but finally the weather kinda broke so i had to give my TW it's first ride to see what is what. Of course, the 3 local riding area gates were closed so no dirt just street. I was able to take it on Black Canyon Road which is a maintained dirt road but it is normally like riding on marbles. I knew it would be badly damaged from the storms so i took it anyway. Only 34miles but i got the idea. All i can say is Wow i haven't had this kinda fun under 55mph on two wheels in forever. She is definitely a keeper. Mods Done So Far: Ricochet Skid Plate Tusk Rack Pelican 1450 Case i had lying around Parts Ordered after the ride: Progressive Fork Springs 11-1120 Race Tech Gold Valve Fork Cartridge Emulator #FEGV 3301 Maxima Fork Oil 15W 16 oz. Baron Performance Springs - BA-8523RD I took a video that i am editing now but will post it up on YouTube once i am done. Bad thing is that i grabbed the wrong battery so it will be a shorter one with very little of the Dirt section.

Damn small cc bikes are addicting. Will be doing the suspension and luggage but that is about it. Sooooo fun though.

I rode one a few years ago. What a freakin blast. Peppy motor and handled surprisingly well. Depends on what $$ your looking for cause id take a look for sure.

Correct from what i found so far. Yamaha Banshee Rear Shock - Direct Bolt On. Spring rate is a guess. Haven't found a good example yet but on the lookout for one. Yamaha R6 - Needs 3/4" plates welded as it is too short. The 03' is a remote reservoir and eliminates the headache of mounting a shock upside-down Yamaha V-Star - Direct Bolt On if you want a lower TW. Marvin Shaw has an option but it uses HP Nitrogen 260psi+ as it's rebound and dampening. If it needs some tweaks you need to send it back to them. but it is like $300 Most other mfg quad shocks and newer models are too long (Yamaha Raptor, Honda 450 etc). Even a good used Yamaha Banshee shock will need to be serviced due to the age. With a spring your into it for about $350-400. For now all i will do is the spring on the shock as a Cogent shock is like $800.

That is why i bought it even though i have fun on anything with 2 wheels. Something to just fart around on locally and a fun errand bike. Thank you. For the $$ i really like it so far. I have nothing to compare it to though. Some QC issues like weld splatter and square edges that needed a little file work but again for the $$ i couldn't replicate it. The directions are good but being a copy of a copy the pictures sucked. The rack is designed to have the passenger pegs but I deleted mine so i made up some Aluminum spacers to take up the space. The hardware is what it is and i usually change it out but i used what came with it for now. The exhaust bolt was too short for my liking so i changed that out from a 35mm to a 40mm. All the OEM bolts i took off that weren't used i put in a plastic storage bin for spares.

When is the next bike swap happening? Anybody have the below i can rent or try out? My Dad gave up his Dirt riding helmet on his last ride. Comments like "Too fast, Too Tall and Things Happen Too Quickly" stuck in my head. I refuse to give up on him because he just about keeps pace with me on the street in Sumo format, on my VFR or my 1090. Kidding but he is not that far behind. Years ago I sold my him my DRZ (in the For Sale section) for $1 on Fathers Day so he couldn't back out of joining me from time to time and using his normal excuse of $$. So, i decided to give him another bike on Fathers Day but with a twist so he really can't use the words "Fast, Tall, Quickly or i don't want to slow you down or always make you feel like you have to wait for me". If we are on similar bikes then the mental part will help. What i am looking for is the below low and slow bikes. Both can be the same or a combo. One for me and One for Pops. Newer the better. I haven't ridden any of these but i know what will work for my dad. 2001-Present Yamaha TW200 ** Always wanted one of these 2017-Present Suzuki Van Van 2013-Present Yamaha XT250 2021 Honda Trail 125 Any Honda CT110 but a 1980 I have things to trade like a 01' Suzuki DRZ400E, 08' KTM 950 SE, 74' Yamaha RS100, 01' Honda VFR and if really needed my 07' KTM 450EXC.

Your not alone. Sidi boots are notoriously bad in the toe box area. My crossfire 1 and 2's sucked, my Vertigo, ST and Mag1 all sucked in the toe box. Everywhere else were race level protections so i didn't care cause of the insane protection and comfort they provided. EVERYBODY is different from head to toe so try it on or take a gamble in it not fitting.

Sucker !!! Be careful of Big Rock Moto You Tube vids and the like. BRM actually does a 100% No BS video IMO. Comes from experience but lets you know as a NOOB what to expect. Wish there were more like him. Oh BTW at the next Loan your bike to another SDADV member don' t be mad if i make the first scratch on your new bike.

I won't buy online from anyone unless they have a return policy. Revzilla, Rocky Mountain are my go to online shops. As 350thumper says if you can try it on at a local dealer and clearance rack, even better. I like Cycle Gear. I love my Racer, Alpinestars, Dainese and Klim gloves and wear an XL. Each manufacture weather a glove, jacket, pants etc i have found all fit different based on the model so i have to try it on or gamble with used gear.

Ive been watching Riemann since 2019 when i got my 500. I consider him one of the Aliens that ride this earth that tries to teach us monkeys how to ride. He has a way of teaching that is enjoyable and i never feel like i am being put down for the skills or lack of skills i have. Now that i have a Big KTM ADV bike i plan on taking a few "Lessons" this year. Not because i suck but because i can always learn something. IRC Tire Lessons are very good as well. I'll be the 1st to admit while standing next to an Excuse Cone is that i DO NOT practice any of the tips on either channel on any consistent basis so it sticks into my brain. I've only ridden my KTM 1090 on the street but will try dirt not that our season is fast approaching and do some of these dirt drills. I'll contact you for your training dates and maybe ask to be put on the cancellation list.

In 2019 when i got back into dirt riding i had a 5-10mph crash. Nothing big. I had no idea what was good or what was bad gear wise but i crashed a lot when i was young and Leatt seemed to be the go to for protection. So, i spent as much $$ as i could. I was wearing my Leatt GPX helmet, Leatt GPX jacket, Leatt 3DF under armor, Fox Titan Elbow guards, Nike Football impact shorts, Klim Dakar Pants, Fox Titan Knee Guards and Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro boots. Results: Leatt 3DF jumpsuit - I ended up w/3 bruised ribs and 2 cracked from the lack of rib protection the Leatt 3DF had. Shoulder hurt like H for a few months. Immediately burned it in the trash. Leatt GPXHelmet - Visor snapped off but it is now my back up helmet. Neck muscle strain so i wear Fox Titan Knee Guards - Partial Blow out of my knee with a tear to miniscus. What i wear now and have since 2019 Klim Krios Helmet or Bell MX9 Adventure Klim Vapor or 100% Goggles Leatt 5.5 Pro HD w/ Geigerrig RIG 500 ** Leatt 5.5 Neck Brace Dainese Impact Shorts (Dirt or Street) Klim Dakar or MSR Pants Mobius X8 Knee Braces ** I always ride with water and snacks. Tried all kinds of backpacks, nakpacks, waist packs etc and finally settled on this setup. I liked the Zac Speed Roost protector and Back Pack combo but i already had my Leatt. I am a cheap bastard so i bought a cheap backpack and "Bolted it" to my Leatt. I have been using this combo since summer 2020. I can carry 3L of water and a days worth of munchies and i have no idea it is there. If you are a backpacker think Internal frame vs External. Like others mentioned above, the point is that gear while expensive can be had for cheap if you find people like me who buy new and ride in it once and sell it. More than half my gear now i bought as "1 season" old that saved me a ton of $$.

Mark, This question is like a motor oil thread. Every opinion is different and most are correct. Protect yourself for battle but not so much that you can't move. You know this from street riding. Helmet is #1 of importance and expense. I'll run my Leatt "Dirt" helmets and Bell MX9 ADV under 65mph in the dirt or street. My Arai Signet or AGV K5 are for anything over 65mph or 350lbs is what i wear. I could care less what anyone thinks like "That's not an ADV helmet, you should get XYZ cause it is 60grams lighter, has a visor and looks cool". While i might agree my head is safe so thanks for the opinion. Boots are #2 - Your bike will determine what you need just like a street bike. Motocross boots belong on a MX bike and nowhere else. I use Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro for my XR400, XR600, KTM 500, KTM 525, KTM 450, DRZ400, KTM 950SE, KTM 1090, ATC185 and more bike that i will buy. I also love my Forma Adventures that will likely be my sole ADV boot. Chest Armor is #3 for me. Once you have had broken ribs because you chose the wrong chest or back armor is true learning experience. Good thing i broke my ribs when i was 9yo when i forgot to wear my JT Roost Protector. I wear a Leatt 5.5 Pro HD in the dirt with a Kriega backpack for Agua and snacks. I am not a true ADV rider yet but my Astar GP Plus works fine for my big KTM's on the street. Gloves is #4 for me. I wear Klim, Astar, Dainese, Racer, Fox, RevIt, Cortech in shorts or Gauntlet. My wrist brace dictates what glove i can use and what mood i am in dictates how far up the wrist it goes. The list can go on and on but like most members on ADV i have a ton of "Extra" gear (Aka i am gear hoarder) that you can try before you buy based on your size of course. More then happy to let you try before you buy because "Riding Gear" is a whole other bank account waiting to be drained.

Welcome Vertically Challenged SDAR Noob, What you find here is that nobody cares about your age, height, riding experience, what you ride (Except Zubb), mechanical experience or if you need to sleep in a hotel vs a tent. Everyone here just want's to ride and you will find with time on the site that there is always someone riding Mon-Sun, 24/7, 365 etc etc. so don't worry that you will miss a ride as there is usually one the next day somewhere by someone.

I have never done Heart Attack Hill, The Squeeze etc on a motorcycle of any CC or Weight. I did do it 3x in a friends Cherokee and 1x in my own Cherokee. It is called Heart Attack Hill for two reasons. The 1st is when you stand at the top and look down. If your heart beats fast then walk down and let an experienced driver do the dirty work or just turn around. ZERO shame in that. The 2nd is you look down from the top, you puff your chest up, jump in your rig and half way down at the step transition you Sh*t yourself from the unloading of your suspension. You can't get out or scream like a beach so you have a heart attack so you don't look like a Pansy to those looking on. Yes, i have no shame in admitting in Sharted once or twice while i went down that damn thing. Every obstacle in life is a step back and observe so we don't get a Darwin Award handed to us. While HA Hill or any other place is a challenge, they can be done an done while being safe and full of memories. These places are baby steps. Do it on a Honda Monkey and work your way up type of attitude. Ride it for the 1st time on a bike that is way outta your riding level is all on you Darwin Jr. Just step right up for your trophy. The 1st time i did John Bull was down right comical. I had 4 changes of clothes and they were all Brown. Let's just say i went prepared. Ride Safe, Ride Smart, Ride at your level and you will ride until your last breath

ShutterRev & Zubb, Thank you for the detailed info and experience on ADV Tiars. I am new to big ADV bikes and shortly i will be changing tires to try this season. I currently have the MotoZ Tractionator Dual Venture as i like the reviews. I am waiting for my research to be done to decide which rear to go with before i put both on. Since i can't say what i will be doing with the bike as it is new to me my thought is a ADV Mullet (Like that description). I have a Supermoto for craziness on the street but i am surprised and very happy with how my 1090 does on the road with the stock tires. The low % of riding i will do in the dirt needs to be confidence inspiring so i can push around the big girl when i need to. I am thinking a 70/30 split for my first tire change so will likely go with the MotoZ Tractionator RallZ for the pooper end. I have MotoZ Tractionator Desert H/T Front/Rear on my 950SE and no way could i run those on my 1090 and feel confident. They are noisy AF (Likely due to my Dirt helmet) and move around quit a bit on the outer lugs.
