  1. I saw that YouTube video also of them on the 5 miles of Hell. I thought for a low budget production and low budget bikes, it made for a very entertaining and inspiring video. Roadkill Garage used to make video where they would fly somewhere in the country, by the cheapest cars they could get, drive them back home and see who could sell it for what they paid or more. Lots of roadside repairs along the way. Maybe we can do a SDAR low budget challenge?

    Long Way Up

A gray beard once told me, "If you wait for everything to be just right or perfect before doing anything, you will never be ready." I paraphrased my quote. Waiting for retirement, waiting for x, y or z... you might find that life.... real life, not work... passes you by. As for electric vehicles.... they aren't zero emissions. Somewhere in the manufacturing and shipping process fuel was burned. And, depending on the energy source when charging, fuel could be burning to make that electrical energy your battery needs. Finally, I do enjoy Ewan and Charlie on motorcycles...... if only Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond made a motorcycle trek. Their Top Gear and Grand Tour Specials are epic with breath taking cinematography and they are funny to watch fight, bicker and sabotage each other.
  3. So... if it is a Two for Tuesday, and you run out of beer.... hitting the SOS is NOT ok? Correct?😝 In all seriousness, great article!

    How would you handle this?

Another thought, maybe if you only responded to them in German and didn't speak a single word of English, they would have moved on?

    How would you handle this?

Udo, I am glad you are ok and it worked out for you. It is always easier to dissect things after they happen. You probably did the best you could in the heat of the moment. Something to consider, though not always practical. I probably wouldn't have stopped. At the first sign or trouble/danger, I would have kept on truckin'. I would have tried to find my way to police or fire station to take a break. I realize in today's climate, not all police stations may be available or accessible. Also, you may not have known where the closest police or fire station was. Firefighters are usually pretty good folks and probably would have tried to help you with your bike and shoe away undesirables. A cowboy bar or motorcycle bar, could also be a temporary safe haven, maybe not... but just a thought as a latch ditch option. I am surprised they didn't back down after you got to Cycle Gear and I am surprised you didn't lose any luggage while you went into the store. They might have gotten wise and thought you could have alerted the store what was going on. Maybe not. I find many Central Valley cities/towns to be undesirable locations (Bakersfield, Fresno, Stockton, Sacramento, Modesto.... just to name a few). I am sure someone on here will come along with better suggestions soon.
  6. Is that all you got? I was expecting, "hold my beer and watch this..."

    Looking for a used 500 exc f - questions

Awesome, Mike! I am sure you are going to have a lot of fun. You mentioned something earlier, the weight difference between the two bikes. I find it comical when I hop on my XT250 from my Super Tenere. The ~250 lbs XT250 feels as light as a feather compared to my almost 600 lbs Tenere. It is fun to be able to throw a lighter bike around. We will be looking for your smiles out on the trail!
  9. Wow! That looks like a great turn out and sounds like a fun ride. Thank you for sharing pictures.
  10. Where is the ride report and pictures? Or you all too busy riding?
  11. Not trying to thread jack, but you do raise a good point. With the weather changing, folks need to remember to stay cool and hydrated.

Any golf cart guys on here?

I think GEM car makes or made street legal electric carts. They have a slow mode for the golf course and a fast mode for the street. They can do 25 MPH, at least the ones I am thinking of, and obviously can't be used on the highways. The one I had experience with had blinkers, headlights, brake lights, speedometer, reverse lights, a VIN #, seat belts and probably some other road required gear and gadgetry I am failing to remember. I see several carts all around Coronado. They seem to work out well there on the street/traffic conditions. Sometimes golf courses sell old carts. You might be able to find one there that has the parts you are looking for on the cheap... I don't know for sure though. Just an idea.
  13. Looks like a nice ride you all had. Thank you for the pictures.
