    2018 desert dash skill level

I would like to take a friend of mine on essentially the 2018 desert dash route. He is just getting back into riding and bought himself a brand new 2018 ktm 500 exc-f. He is anxious to get some riding in and has had somef smaller trips but this would be his first big adventure. I did not ride last year and was curious what you all thought. Can a new guy ride it? It is hard for me to judge for myself. I am by know means an expert but hard for me to judge the level needed. I think he will be ok

    Radios or Bluetooth?

I have the rugged radio moto kit but used the baofeng uv-5r radio from amazon with an upgraded antenna. I love the kit and it works really well. Right now Rugged is selling the kit with a radio for $180, that is a great deal. https://www.ruggedradios.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1083_1101&products_id=1911 I do have my HAM license and have for a few years but it was not difficult to get and nice to be "legal" anyway.

    Rim swap

I bought this rim/hub off a guy in Craigslist and he claimed it was off an early 2000s KTM. I want to go with an 18” rim instead of my 19” for a few different reasons. Main reason is trail side tube replacement or patch Anyway, can anyone shed some light on this rim? It looks like it has two rim bead locks on it also. my stock axles spaces fit right in so I can run it with my stock axle. It should “work” just curios about the rim itself

The next step (what moto to get)

It has been a long while since it have been on here. The last year was crazy and there have been some positive changes that have allowed to ride more! I now live in Pine Valley and can ride almost daily which has been great, the down side is my skills (still mediocre) have exceeded my current bike, the infamous TW200!! I rode the desert dash in 2017 with my dad, we where the crazy guys on the TWs! We had a great time! We were not able to do it this year but have high hopes to get back at it in 2019. Ok so I have been stuck with not wanting to sell the TW and just buy another bike and keep the TW as a loner bike for when friends come to visit. I have come the realization (with help from my wife...) I need to sell the TW to fund the next motorcycle. I am coming to you for your knowledge and skills in deciding the next bike. I am a vertically challenged man and on a tall day stand 5'7" and the TW has been great for the low seat height but I am ready to take the next step. I have done the basic research and found there are a couple options in assisting getting the taller bikes to better suit the short inseam, like a shorter seat, link system, and getting the suspension tuned for a shorter rider. With that information in mind and the the very limited budget of less that 3k (most of which will be from selling the TW), what is your suggestion on what bike to get? I am open to all options, and if any of you have an extra bike and want to trade for a great TW with some minor upgrades, let me know!!! Tommy

    husky rear rim

I have been contemplating switching out my stock 19" rear rim on my 04 husky tc450 to an 18" Mainly because I want more side wall that the 19" rim and easier to change a tube on the trail. Can anyone tell me either a good source for a strong 18" hoop or maybe a bike that shares the same hub/axle etc that I can just swap in. Maybe find something on craigslist. Thanks!!

    Alpine/pine valley to Julian

I am not sure if this is the correct place on the forum but I’ll give it a try. Is there trails from pine valley to Julian with minimal to no paved roads? Alpine is a potential start point also, pine valley is preferred. Thanks!

Are any of those on a gps trail I can down load? Sorry for the new guy questions!
  17. I was pumped to finally be able to take my new to me husky out to rip in the dirt. I got my clutch issues figured out and working perfect and got a nice new motoz mountain hybrid rear tire mounted up. I went out to have some fun and maybe 8-10 miles in to my ride I found a screw that not only punctured my tire and tube, it went through the sidewall also! Can the sidewall be repaired?!?! I just threw down $150 for a new tire, tube and mounting!! I did have some fun though!!

    Can my sidewalk be repaired!!!

Yes I do, an a new heavy duty 19” tube

    Can my sidewalk be repaired!!!

Right on!!! This tire is crazy tight and I attepted to mount it on the rim myself and all I accomplished was a pinched tube so I had Motoworld do it for me on Monday!! I am going to stop by coyotes Motorcycle Tires in alpine tomorrow and see if he has some heavy duty patches and get me set up.

    Computer and/or GPS

Now that I have my husky tc450 I am in need of a computer and/or GPS The bike does not have a speedo/computer, only an hour meter. What unit do you suggest that is compatible with my bike? GPS unit as well? I was looking into the voyager as a all it one unit but is probably more than I need. What are you suggestions, and budget conscious option are always ideal!
  22. trcooperone

    Computer and/or GPS

I don't necessarily have a preference, If I had a gps that had my speed on it I guess I could do just the gps. I am open to all options!

The next step (what moto to get)

Thanks everyone, well as much as we would love to buy the husky for sale in here it might be out of reach. There are two dr350 on Craigslist right now that might fit the budget and the electric start requirements for my dad

The next step (what moto to get)

I am the proud owner of a 2004 Husqvarna TC 450!! Its a great bike and I was able to talk him down some! Define need some suspension tuning to bring it down a little and a little seat foam shave and I am ready to hit the trails! Now we need a bike for my dad. He came with me and really wants the one for sale here on the forum but only can squeeze out $2600 for it. I sent a message to see if the owner will let it go for that... THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP!!!!
