Jim, you're pretty fast outta the holster. I was going to mention that place also...heard real good things about them. Hoping to take my kid up there real soon.

Not trying to hijack Troy's thread, but more like piggyback on it. I have an app called PDF Maps by Avenza on my phone, it's basically a PDF map overlay that has BLM Routes and roads/trails within Anza Borrego. The maps i use are free but you can purchase detailed topo maps. I haven't played around with it too much, but here are a couple of screen shots from my phone. These don't have a lot of detail, just the main routes.

Sounds like you've really done your homework with this! Just a couple questions....Are you still able to use your phone..swiping the screen..while in the Otterbox? Or is it fully enclosed? Have you ever encountered rain with this setup? Waterproof or water resistant?
  10. Sunrise and sand are a perfect combo!
  11. Can't make it tomorrow. Everything is dry out there, except carrizo wash, just ask this guy....
  12. So my buddy picked up a '15 WR450F, he's a 2 wheel dirt noob but has experience on street bikes and on quads. We were supposed to ride out at Super as a warmup for a weekend run to the Blu Inn, but something came up on his end so I rode solo. I had been talking up on how much fun the desert is after some rain. He definitely missed out. I got here right as the train was crossing the wash. Water was flowing like the mighty Mississippi...well, not really but it did make for some fun water crossings as I rode down the wash. Went and played around the towers and the sand for a bit before calling it a day.
  13. Did anyone accept your invite? I would have been riding along side of you but i had some family commitments this weekend. Have fun!
  14. ok, cool. Trying to juggle a few things this weekend Sure was. Only saw 2 sets of ATV tracks and 3 of dirtbike tracks. Never saw or heard anyone.
  15. Are you coming out here in the morning or evening?
  16. Took a day trip down to Ramonas last Saturday with my brother and a couple of SDAR clowns (Ken S, Uncle Champ and jawhitmoyer). We crossed the border at Tecate just before 8am and headed south out of town. Weather wasn't bad at all for the first half of ride. We hit some fun stuff on the way down to Ramonas and only got on Compadre for a few miles. Once at Ramonas we gassed up, ate and had a couple of beers. There was some dark, menacing clouds and lightning in the direction we were headed. So we did what any self-respecting dirtbike rider would do and rode straight into the abyss.... The rain starts at about 1:35 into the video, riding down into a canyon with rain, lightning and hail gave the ride a spooky feel to it. We dried up by the time we reached RSV, where we had another cold beer and then headed back to the border. We put in about 160 miles for the day. Great ride with a great group of guys!
  17. have fun! I would go, but work gets in the way.

  19. It was pretty crazy hearing the thunder and riiding on a ridge into a canyon knowing that all that water was flowing into that same canyon.
  20. About 9 miles of pavement before we hit dirt...that's the route south out of Tecate.
  21. Confirmed. I'll shoot you a text with ETA once we hit the road.
