  1. MT43 Rear..... How many miles did you get out of the last two rears? 10,000 miles give or take? I just looked again at MC Superstore and the MT 43 Rear is still on sale but, it went up in $ by a $1.82. Weird...last week they were $71 and this week they're $72.82. They have a coupon posted the gives you an additional $5 off.... under $68. Hmmmm For those who know and care....this is a great deal. No I don't work for them. Just lookin' out for the peeps.

    Tweek tweek

That's pretty SIC. Burns really nice. Probably just enough time to grill a some Quail. Although...I could've sworn I saw something like that downtown in the HOOD of S.D. I was lost and wound up in the wrong part of town. Must have been a different version 'cause the were holding spoons over it.

    49% OFF TIRES!

I agree.... Just looked and they are still on sale. $71.

    49% OFF TIRES!

I have a couple friends running the Geomax for Dez. and Baja. They seem very happy with the tires. Also, they speak highly of the fronts as well. Haven't tried them myself. Just purchased a MT 43 rear a few days ago from MC Superstore for $68. They are on sale for $71 and the girl had a coupon which brought it down to $68. Also, she waived the shipping charges..... Whoohooo! Something to say about customer service. I like to support the smaller local shops but couldn't pass on this one. Just saying.

Service Honda CR500AF (calling all crusty ones)

Who's Justin Bieber ?????? This should be a Dos Equis commercial..... " I don't always ride, but when I do....... I ride a CR500" " Stay thirsty my friends ".

    Helmets..... Suggestions?

So... Just want to thank all of you that replied to my inquiry. Some great suggestions and reviews. Since then I ran into some issues with the bike and had to address them to be able to ride after the rains. So, what I had to put toward a helmet kinda took a hit. My helmet will have to do for a little longer. It's great to hear what the people who use them have to say.... Those who are using the GMAX helmets.....what models are you wearing? I looked at them online and there seems to be quite a few different ones. Just curious. Thanks again James....
  7. Hey... Newer member to SDAR here. Hope you have a great trip. When you are on the Pacific side, there is a Home for Children just south of San Vicente. The name is Rancho Santa Marta. That is my family. Google the place. If in need of a place to visit, take a break or run for cover....please stop in there. Can't miss it. 5 miles south of San Vicente, look for a large sign of a hand holding a baby in its palm. West side entrance off the 1. Should be on your maps. Tell them James sent you. They are Christian Missionaries so just manage yourselves accordingly. Also, in town ( San Vicente ), there is a guy...his name is Larry. His website is www.bajatrailrides.com . He lives and rides in Baja. Only met him once through my father in law but, have talked to many who speak highly of his knowledge of Baja. Just throwing it out there. Have a great and safe ride.. James

    Helmets..... Suggestions?

Thanks for all your input so far. looks like ill be trying on a number of helmets. I have a hard time moving away from Arai.. Nice to see feedback on the others out there. It's hard to make decisions on something that is so important so your feedback is greatly appreciated. I think its important for us to share our thoughts ( good and bad ). Something we can all benefit from. I'm still wondering about the KLIM helmet. Does anyone have any info on these? On that note....I was riding yesterday, ( 2-25-14 ), had a friend with us that wasn't to up on the tech, single track stuff. We tried to keep it simple. Came upon a small step-up (not to tech.) next to a ditch with overgrowth above it. I've been through it many times. You have to duck down while popping over it. It's kind of a tight space to get through and a little off camber. I made it through and rolled ahead maybe a hundred feet and waited to see him come around the corner. I heard a yell so I turned around and went back. Turns out...what I thought was simple took the guy out and sent him in the ditch about 3'- 4' deep and 3' wide. He fell into it ( bike stayed up on top) and he hit his head on the rocks. According to the guy running sweep, he didn't move for about 30 sec's and then got up. The guy who went in the ditch was wearing a helmet by KTM. Not sure of the manufacturer. His helmet had a couple dents in it that were about the size of a grape or so. He was fine, shook it off and kept riding for a while before opting out and heading back. This was a great reminder of how easy and quick things can potentially go south in a blink of an eye. We weren't moving fast...easy obstacle for most. I guess it could have been much worse...glad it wasn't. Seems the helmet did it's job but, I was a bit surprised at the dents. Something to think about.....and a little ironic about posting this thread the day before. Gots me thinking' Last year, the guy riding sweep yesterday, was life flighted out of C.C. Came around a turn on the perimeter road to hot and launched himself about 60'-80' down a hillside. Hit his head hard enough to give himself a concussion amongst other things. Messed up his bike pretty good. He was wearing an ARAI. No dents, just a couple scratches. So thanks again for posting your thoughts on helmets. I do appreciate you taking the time to share and I look forward to hearing more. James

    Helmets..... Suggestions?

Looking into getting a new helmet. My current helmet, which I like but, not love is an ARAI VX PRO III. It fits well enough. I like the fact that it has removable cheek pads..just incase something goes wrong. It also offers great protection. Other than that it doesn't seem to vent all that well and my head is always hot even when it's cool out. I have to take it off whenever I stop for more than a minute. When it's warm out forget it....I'm suffering, can't stop, gotta keep movin'. So my questions to you dirt riders are, What helmets are you using? Why do you like your helmet? What have you tried and didn't like? Would not recommend.... I am looking for a helmet that has great ventilation and removable padding and above all great protection. Weight is a big factor also. I'm considering KLIM as an option. Any feedback on those ? Suggestions?? Thanks... James

    Sightings

Newer member here. Don't say much usually. Like this thread though. I had a sighting last Tues. in Lemon Grove around Broadway. It was a Hippy on a Ktm 450 all painted in funky colors with a half bald trials tire on the rear. His beard was hangin' out from his helmet and blowing in the wind. Some of his beard hair got wedged under my windshield wiper . ????
  15. Hey everyone, Not a big poster here but I love this. Been traveling Baja since the mid 80's. Have had my share of messed up situations. Baja is like stepping back in time! An amazing place for those with a need for adventure and exploration. Once you go and learn they ways…..you will not allow anything to stop you from returning. I spend most of my time on the Pacific side surfing, fishing and riding…..mostly solo missions due to the fact that most people I know are afraid to cross the boarder. What a shame! But, I've grown to like it that way. If you like solitude and can embrace the loneliness then it's for you. Boarder towns suck!! Get past them and if you are on the Pac. side, once you get south of Ensenada ( which is a great town) everything changes. It's beautiful and the riding is virtually limitless. Unbelievable scenery. Great people. My family ( in-laws) own and operate Rancho Santa Marta…. a home for children just 5 miles south of San Vicente on the 1 Hwy. They founded the place and have had a huge impact in the area. Everybody down there knows the place and respects it. If you are in the area and or need help please stop in there. My father in-law ( Bill ) is an old time off-road racer . My name is James, just be respectful as they are Christian Missionaries so….. no foul language, beer and such. Just had to throw that out there to keep things on the up and up. You will love the place. Google it and check it out. This is the place Johnny Campbell stops at when they have their Beach Bash. Anyway, prep yourself for whatever you can imagine can go wrong as best you can when it comes to riding. Buy your water from the stores. Listen to your instinct…..Man have I learned to do that!! Don't ignore it. Finally, if it doesn't sound, look or feel right….it probably isn't, move on. Be respectful…. you will meet some of the nicest, most humble people down there that will offer you anything they have to help you out. Be ready to return the favor. Stay away from accidents on the highway. sounds terrible I know. Stop if you need to but don't be there when the Polica or Federales get there. You may get the whole thing blamed on you…..it happens, trust me. Just Go….. James " funkyskunk007"
