  1. I already had plans, plus I'm not loving the current heat wave. Definitely interested in future Twofer Tuesdays tho!

SDAR First Aid Training May 31st

Great training, very informative and you could tell it was coming from a place of experience. It was nice to see some of you again and meet others for the first time!!

    Advice on riding areas

If you're willing to come up to Ramona there's a decent amount of relatively easy to ride fire roads. I'd be happy to show you around if you'd like.

    Noob Clothing advice

I went to buy a set of Crossfires and found them totally incompatible with my feet. This is not in any way to say they are bad boots, just that much like helmets the right boots are the ones that fit you. But as someone who had a lisfranc injury (shattered all five metatarsals) in a pair of steel-toe Doc Martens in my early twenties, I'll absolutely agree that boots are not the place to compromise on safety.

    Noob Clothing advice

Knee pads are pretty necessary, elbows, back protection or armored jacket, and padded shorts aren't a bad idea. If you're dual sporting textiles with some abrasion resistance are best, but if you're riding dirt it's hard to argue with motocross gear.

    Follow Me Drones

For that budget your best bet is going to be to to find an older Litchi compatible DJI drone, imho. With that said, I never found the follow me performance very acceptable until I got a Skydio 2+ which starts at $1,099.

    Looking for 2003 KTM

Just sent ya details and contact info for all parties involved.
  13. I had a blast, thanks to all of those who showed up and to all of those who made the questionable decision to follow me around Ocotillo Wells! Definitely looking forward to the next one, here's the few pics I managed to take while out riding.
  14. I agree ADV and Dirt Bike levels are going to diverge quite a bit, but dual sport adds confusion imho. Are we talking 500EXC? CRF450L? DRZ400? F650GS? KLR650? Wee-Strom? I feel like there's some fairly significant differences in those options, particularly when it comes to our local deserts. Just my $0.02.
  15. I struggle with staying cool in armor and have found Leatt's AirFit and AirFlex lines to be a great compromise. The armor you're willing to wear is always better than the armor you left in the closet.

Another One Gone - RIP Gary LaPlante

RIP. He was a great guy, I took several dirt bike and trials classes from him and have regularly attended El Trial out at Motoventures. He lived a good life, but I am saddened for all of us that knew him.

    Who here has DS/MX bikes?

I had a DRZ400 and still sort of miss it. I used to refer to it as a "spork bike" because it absolutely embodies the 'Jack of all trades, master of none' ethic. The bike does not do anything particularly well, but will do nearly anything you ask it to, whether that is a road trip to Alaska, desert singletrack, or supermoto on a kart track. The bikes are incredibly reliable and while not nearly as powerful as others are much more forgiving when it comes to deferred maintenance. Ultimately once I figured out riding dirt was what primarily interested me the better power, suspension, and lighter weight of the WR450 won me over but I still think fondly of my and my wife's DRZs.
  18. Absolutely beautiful evening for it. Great to meet some of you and see others again, it had certainly been too long. Special thanks to Udo for the tacos, man did those ever hit the spot!! I'm definitely looking forward to the next one!
  19. Sorry for the late notice but I'll be there!
  20. So with the understanding the tradition was made long before I attended my first twofer I believe it was easier for newer riders/bigger bikes to not navigate that last section towards the top, especially in the dark. The last time I was up there it wasn't too bad, but ~5 years ago there were a lot of baby heads in that uppermost section.
  21. Yeah, party point (rather than the peak) is the traditional destination.

    Please No Memes or GIF's

Typically it's text over an image, usually humorous, and often but not always with the 'Impact' font.
  23. Naw, I usually just go up on Saturday to watch the Pros. Local events are fun, but those guys are on a whole other level.
