  1. I used drop in anchors in my garage. 2 bolts will hold it. My buddy stole my HF tire changer and he won't give it back. I heard you could mount it on a pallet on the internet somewhere. Works great. The bigger the pallet the better as you have to stand on it for it to work... and that's with big tires.
  2. Gotta remember to check this forum BEFORE I head out. Anyways did a bit of this loop. Tree down on Nate Harrison caught me by surprise. It's just uphill of the historical marker. Managed to walk my bike through it. Only saw a lone KLR on the trails today. Maybe next time.

    Trail report?

The Cleveland National Forest maps show which gates are permanently locked. South Map: http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5336415.zip North Map: http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5336417.zip
  4. If you don't like to end your day early looking at a locked gate, then download these maps. Most of the trails you'll find on google maps will have locked gates on them. I attached the signs in question. There are no signs when you come from the other side.

The SF greenies have been trying to shut down the place for years. There's a group dedicated to keeping it open. I've never been there, but I've sent lots of letters to keep it open. http://carnegieforever.org/carnegie-svra-status/

I'm new to this game, but I see lots of gates across roads and trails shown on google maps. I've only been on a handful of rides, but have found plenty of locked gates.

Ok, you pushed me into it. I went back for a second look. Looks like a sign war started. Someone painted over them and then someone painted letters back on them. While I was sitting there, two guys rode by me and up the trail. I decided to ride around to see what was on the other side. I guess I was just curious to see if there were any signs on the other side. Cleveland Forest Sign: Tenaja Truck Trail Sign: Sign? Ran through the area with all the junk cars and old bus, nice place. Once I got past that place, the trail opened up. Said "Hi" to some guys riding his mountain bike with his dog. I came out where I started... Yeah, I call BS. While I was out there I took a ride up to Margarita Peak. On my way down, I rode past the same two guys I saw earlier. Lots of space out there. Kinda nice to ride west of the 15 for once.
  10. I'm pretty bummed that I can't make the group ride tomorrow, but I go out every Saturday morning anyway. From Carlsbad to the 76, up Nate Harrison to the top of Palomar, down East Grade, back to the 76, Mesa Grande, Black Canyon, Santa Isabel TT, up Black Mnt (found the goat trail this time), back down to Pamo, and the 78 back to Carlsbad. Little wet in the AM until you climb up out of the fog. Always a good day... Some pics for you guys. Up Nate Harrison Grade East Grade View Open Gate! Santa Isabela Top of Black Mnt.
  11. Just road some of those trails last weekend. How do you get from the Blk Mnt to the 76 other than Blk Canyon to Mesa Grande? Ran into gates on both sides. Gave up after a few dead ends. Can't make it Sunday, but I'm gonna do something Saturday morning. I love the smell of Nate Harrison in the morning.

Since that last thread, I learned a few things. I went looking at county maps and found this on a FAQ page: How do I verify whether a road is open to the public? If you have questions as to whether a road is available for public use please contact the Survey Section of the Real Estate Services Division. Staff within the section can tell whether the road is available for public use and whether it is maintained by the County. Please call (858) 694-2291 during regular work hours and ask for the public assistance personnel in the Survey Section. So I called. I got ahold of Paul Tanguilig (Real Estate Services, County of San Diego) He informed me that most of Tenaja Trail is private, but some is public. The public parts are in the middle of the trail. It's just how the property lines were drawn. I found a county map ( http://www.sdcdpw.org/countyroads/crs/15W42.pdf ) and Tenaja Trail is label as "Z Road" Z 1815. Paul said, "that Z roads are historically known to be used by the public, but also known to have no legal documents that declare it as county roads. Also Z roads are not maintained by the County." If Tenja was graded, it wasn't graded by the county but rather by the land owners. There are a dozen or so properties back there that are only accessible by that trail, so I'm not sure how anyone would know who's who using the trail. So with all that info, I still don't plan on going back. There are other places to ride without signs.
