After building a couple Modern Sporting Rifles with my son as a father son project we have the pig bug pretty bad. We've been hunting off the bike lately to get into those hard to get to secret places and wondering if any of you guys have see any out rideing. If so please PM me. Thanks!!

    Seen any piggies?

The pigs are all over the place doing so google earth searches will reveal lots of potential spots. South county has a ton of options. Water source and oaks and hard to get to equals pigs. They are well beyond the old maps of Boulder Creek road. What started as 35 pigs in 2006 is now in the thousands. From here on out the population is going to more than double every year. We as conservationists have to do something it and it helps that they are tasty:) I'm all for getting together and scouting new areas but i don't want to give up my spot.

    Coyotes NOT welcome

Could not help noticing the vehicle driving through on the road in the same direction your son was shooting. Does not seem to be a safe place to be shooting. Is there open hunting on coyotes or a season? That is in the middle of Monache (Kenndey Meadows) the car was full of a shock looking family that decided to visit Monache meadows smack in the middle of deer season. There isn't a coyote season its year around. The coyote population really needs thinned in the area because they are killing calves and fawns. The car was in no danger and came around on a 4X4 road after the shots.

    Seen any piggies?

Thanks guys i found this spot while out riding last May and hunted it until June when it got to hot and my wife was getting pissed out with my new obsession. I went back on Monday to check it out. The rain last week sort of zeroized the tracks which made it easy to see what was new. Lots of little baby prints so they are really breeding. In fact my son walked into the bush into a sow and her piglets and they all scattered. A light AR 16in carbine can fit in a pack and its all that is needed to hunt these guys (just make sure it has a gun lock when transporting it). That said a 6.8 SPC or 6.5mm Grendel in the AR platform is better than the standard 223/5.56 AR that is usually seen on the local gun shops. If your interested when riding the back county look under the oaks so see if the ground is tilled up. Thats a great sign that pigs are in the area. We opened up the stomach on this one and it was stuffed full of acorns. So look for areas with scrub oaks it does not need to be full oak trees but that helps. Beware though its a dangerous hobby once started you'll want to keep hunting these guys and your wife might get pissed off at you as well

    Seen any piggies?

I was out scouting tonight and found more pig sign and evidence the pig area I've been hunting is much larger that i originally thought. Good news but shows a much broader range. This is one of those areas you can get to on a bike with a little liberty taken. Excellent riding as well!!

    Seen any piggies?

Dakota and I attended the Dougs Wiiderness Adventure Hog cleaning and butchering class a couple weeks ago. Its in Descanso and they also offer a hunters safety class that Dakota attended as well The class was only 30 bucks and includes cleaning two pigs. One in the field with a smaller pig that was strung up in a tree and the next in a shop environment. The second Pig was in the mid 300lbs range a pretty big hog. It included a lunch of Wild Pig Chili and dogs cooked over an open fire in a dutch oven. Then we packed into his butcher shop to see how the meat was cut up and packaged. We drew numbers and took turns taking which cuts of the meat we got to take home. My son and I got to take home a couple packages of bacon and roast. I highly recommend it.

You need a MK107 my friend... that would be the ultimate ride and shoot pig gun... let me know if you want to shoot mine. Heres what we have two 6.5mm Grendel AR's and one 5.56mm carbine. We built the Grendels and bought the AR 5.56mm carbine.

They need breach locks on them and we put one in a duffer and another in a gun case across the back.

IN I found a map of the locations of pig sign in San Diego. I took it and converted it to a google earth overlay. So you can see the locations over laied on google earth. very surprising how many places they have spread to. I uploaded it to my facebook group for Modern Rifle Hunting. https://www.facebook.com/download/122641651270155/San%20Diego%20Pig%20Overlay%20Map.kmz/

Best place to get a tire put on?

I just got a new tire in the mail for my Tiger 800. I've been paying in the 40's per tire at southbay motor sports. Can anyone recommend a shop that will do it cheaper?

    Places to ride and shoot

I like riding out to Rodriguez Canyon TT to do some shooting. Going to one spot to shoot is not ideal. I want to find several locations that would make fun rides on the Tiger 800 XC and maybe find a spot to pitch a tent and shoot near camp.

    Places to ride and shoot

What kind of yardage can i expect to be able to shoot out to? I'm building a 6.5mm Grendel with Dakota as a father son project for his hunting rifle. He gets his license in May and gets to put his rifle together the same day. Hes going to actually build it with obvious help from me if he needs it. The Grendel is a long range type modern rifle and would love to start him shooting it out to a few hundred yards. We've got most of the pieces that are hard to find just waiting for the lower to come.

    Places to ride and shoot

Thanks that great info now just need to plan a trip out there in the next couple weekends.
  25. I had a fun day two up riding with Dakota on Mason Valley Truck Trail, Chariot Canyon and Rodriguez Canyon Spur Truck Trail. This is a riding area near Julian at the bottom of Banner Grade. We didn't see anyone else on the trails and had a fun time shooting. We got the rifle sited in and went through 31/2 boxes of Ammo. The AR-15 carbine fit in my Wolfman dry bag perfectly. We wrapped it in a blanket to make sure it didn't rattle around with a bolt lock and then used the blanket to lay on. Rodriguez canyon lies in between State Park and National Forest land and is administered by the BLM which allows shooters to use it. Perfect place for ADV Riding combined with shooting.
