  1. I bought a wrecked KLR 650 for the rear wheel and got a number of good parts from it I don't need. Check out my craigslist add if you're interested: http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/mcy/2557254128.html
  2. Yeah was fun, thanks! Tycho aka Amsterdam
  3. I'll be there tomorrow. Hasta manana
  4. What time Saturday morning? I kinda want to try out the new rim with a D606 tire I got for my KLR650... (riding with a street tire now)
  5. Sounds like plan. I'm in if I have my other rear wheel with knobbies by then. Tycho

    Tools for KLR 'doohickey' upgrade

I called Mike yesterday and he guided me through the whole upgrade. He's just a great guy, very friendly and of course an absolute KLR pro. Btw: I really recommend this upgrade if you have a KLR and not just because the stock lever can break. The one in my bike was still in one piece (I have 11000 on the odometer) but I was stuck so it didn't do much. And the stock spring was loose and had eaten into the wall of the metal case it's in. Now, with the new lever and Mike's torsion spring my engine runs much more quiet and it vibrates a whole lot less. For some reason it also feels like I have more power at low rpm and I seem to shift through rears more smoothly, especially from 1 to 2. Might just be my imagination going wild but it definitely vibrates less.

    Tools for KLR 'doohickey' upgrade

I thought I had the Eagle Mike doohickey, but it turns out KLR650.com sent me a part from STUDEBAKER MANUFACTURING CORP. whoever they may be. You know, I'd be happy to sent this doohickey back because I am fed up with KLR650.com and buy the original Eagle Mike part instead. I only problem is that I don't have time to order and wait for it to be shipped but I'm willing to ride anywhere within San Diego county to pick it up if someone has it for sale.

    Tools for KLR 'doohickey' upgrade

Great! I thought no one had answered my post but it turns out I have to watch my own topic I'm staying at friends place in La Jolla at the moment. So I have the doohickey with two coil springs and a new rotor bolt and I have basic tools. Where are you located? I would like to come by tomorrow or Friday if that works.
  9. Guys, does any one have the special wrench and puller for the doohickey upgrade on the KLR650? Would be great if I could use them for a day in exchange for beer and good karma I ordered the doohickey kit from KLR650.com and got the balancer lever (aka doohickey) a couple of weeks ago but am still waiting for the tools and the gaskets They keep saying 'yeah we'll ship 'm to you in a couple of days' but apparently the wrench has to be made (!) in a workshop and that's not happening. Not soon enough anyway. Because I want to take off on a three month trip to Mexico this Monday. What are your thoughts about re-using the gaskets? Is that generally OK or should I look for another place to get new gaskets? Muchos gracias!

    Otay Mtn Saturday Jan 15

I'm in! This ride seems more appropriate for my skills level (last Saturday I felt the sand was eating my bike instead of me riding it but I had a nice ride back to SD. I especially enjoyed the dirt road between Lake Henshaw and Ramona, it's beautiful and very quiet.)

    Dez with the Prez

I'm riding a klr 650 and have no sand experience. Did a little bit of trail riding in Cleveland Forest last weekend, but that's about all the off-roading I did so far. And err.. I have sorta trail tires, probable 80\% road. Looks like I'm not ready for this trip, but maybe I just ride down to Borrego Springs to meet you guys, have a cup of coffee and check out the place.

    Kevlar Reinforced Pants

These pants look pretty cool. Is there a store somewhere so I can try them on? Tycho

I'd like to join in. I will be riding from PB. Let me know if anyone else leaves from this area... Tycho PS We're talking about Saturday right?
  14. Hi all, I'm a new member and a new rider and in fact I'm also pretty new in town. Last week I got myself an 07 KLR 650 for xmas:) The plan is to take a couple of months off from work and ride south, but first I want to get a bit more riding experience. Maybe I can (ab)use this thread to ask you guys a question... I heard about OHV riding areas east of Otay lake, but cannot really find any info on the Bureau of Land Management website. Does anyone know where to access these riding areas? Thanks, Tycho
