  1. I agree that if one knows Baja well they can certainly have a blast riding motorcycles down there on a budget. But, take into consideration all of the things we are providing here. Our control riders are very familiar with Mexico and we will be given exclusive route intersection points to whatch the race each day. NOBODY ELSE will be getting this information, not even the race teams. All they'll get is their roll charts. We will have a chase truck with spares which will also be carrying your gear, change of clothes, etc. meaning you can lighten the load on yourself and your bike with the added security of being able to cart a broken person or broken bike to safety. We are also covering all of the food, fuel, and hotel expenses along the way... over the course of a full week. Those who joined us last year enjoyed it so much that they ALL decided to join us again this year. We realize that the price is high but given all that is included and the experience we are providing we feel that we are being more than fair with the pricing. Hope you can join us and see that this is a very worth while trip.
  2. Come Chase the Baja Rally with BMW Motorcycles of Escondido Exclusive opportunity to chase Baja's only Rally Race. Sept 28th thru October 2nd. Originally started in 2013 and modeled after the long running Dakar Rally, the Baja Rally has become the premier rally racing event in North America. The race runs thru some of the most beautiful areas in Baja California, Mexico. Just as with the Dakar Rally, there are no course markings and no GPS tracks. Riders use a roll chart and mileage counter to navigate the course while being tracked by rally officials to ensure that key checkpoints are hit along the way. You can read about all of the basics on the rally here. As title sponsor of the event, BMW Motorcycles of Escondido has obtained exclusive rights to bring a small group of spectators along the rally route to observe the racing and experience the race up close and personal. We will be given special routes to the best view points of the race each day, then be directed to the finish and the bivouac where we'll be able to view all of the pit drama as well as rub elbows with the racers during rider meetings and meals. The price for this event is $2795 and is all inclusive which means support truck, meals, lodging, and fuel are all included in this price. The only cost you are responsible for is your alcohol consumption. Our support truck will have some basic spare and repair parts for common BMW motorcycles and our crew is experienced with the repair of these machines. This is NOT a BMW only event and any motorcycle is welcome to join our crew. The ride routes we will be taking are going to be moderately difficult so please ensure you are comfortable riding your motorcycle off road, especially in the sand, and that your bike is equipped with knobby tires. If your have any questions or are ready to sign up for this event please email Rick Johns by clicking here. Don't hesitate as the few spots are expected to sell out quickly so reserve your spot today!

  4. Didn't you get a bitchin' shot of me on my BMW G450 last year? I remember chatting with you about it. You were taking pics from outside of your truck as I was coming out of a turn in the sand wash near the end of Split Mtn. It's been a while since I've seen the pic but hopefully you still have it.
  5. The sand isn't all that bad. There is a trail that most ride that is above all the beach sand. You're still riding along the beach just not ON the beach. The beach is more fun though. I've still got several spots available for anyone that's interested in coming along.
  6. Join BMW Motorcycles of Escondido along with Motoventures for a day of offroad training specifically geared for big Adventure bikes. You'll learn a lot about how to handle your big bike in the dirt including turns, hills, braking, sliding, and more! Don't want to risk damage to your bike? Maybe you don't yet have a dirt bike? We'll ride down to Rancho Santa Veronica just outside of Tecate to stay the night. Saturday we'll ride down to the Pirate's Cove Hotel, then Sunday we'll have the long ride home. The ride is roughly 90% dirt and will take us inland through the dirt roads and truck trails before putting us out along the coast where we're literally riding along the beach for the last 30-40 miles! While not required, knobby tires are highly recommended, especially as there will be some beach sand! The cost of this ride is $395 and includes food, hotels, and fuel while in Mexico. There's only one fuel stop before we cross the border into Tecate where you will be required to fill up your tank. 8. No, this was the ledges. The bike was stuck in the rut on the first ledge. Not quite enough ground clearance. I'm the one in the orange/blue. He made it through most of the other stuff without too much issue but he did have a get off coming down the dropoff: The sand after was really soft and he had trouble in the areas where he couldn't go fast enough to get up on plain. Got to give him lots of credit though for taking that big bike where it really didn't belong and making it out alive.
  9. Great ride report Kug! Everyone should know that the GS Adventure rider is okay. Just a broken wrist and a bunch of bruises. He was lucky to say the least! Had we not had the chase truck along he would have had to hitch a ride in the back of a local's truck into Ojos. Suppose he could have ridden bitch on the back of someone's bike but that would have sucked for him. Hey, it's all part of the adventure. It just wouldn't be fun if everything went according to plan. All in all a great trip with great people! Love doing these rides!
  10. Ride is starting to fill up. Down to 9 spots left so if you're on the fence you best make a decision soon! We're thinking we're going to have a bit of a hard option at the end of the first day. If you're interested in that let me know.

While not required, knobby tires come highly recommended! All makes and models of motorcycles are welcome to join! The $355 cost of this ride covers food, hotel, and fuel while in Mexico. There’s only one fuel stop before we cross the border at Tecate where you will be required to fill up your tank. 12. Realized I got my email wrong above. It's actually Rjohns@BMWMCEscondido.com. Thanks Driss for bringing that to my attention.
  13. Sorry I've haven't replied but been caught up with the end of my road racing season with WERA. For any of you thinking about trucking it down u can always leave your rig at Rancho Santa Veronica but you'll sit in the traffic coming back across the border. You'll pay to park on the U.S. side & won't have to deal with the traffic but there's a good stretch of highway between Tecate & RSV. So far I'm at about 50/50 KTM/BMW so don't be afraid to bring out any brand of bike. Keep in mind the route is for adventure bikes and any skill level is welcome along. Some guys may think it's too easy and others will think it's too sandy. Either way it's a great time with a bunch of great folks! Hope u all can make it! Still got about a dozen spots left so contact me if you want to go. Rjohns@BMWMCEEscondido.com 760.520.1288
  14. Our next GS Baja ride is coming December 7th to 9th! This ride will take us down to Mike's Sky Ranch via mostly dirt roads and truck trails. As always, this ride is designed around big adventure bikes with knobby tires. While this may be called a GS ride, all makes and models are welcome as long as you aren't afraid to get them dirty. The plan is to meet at BMW Motorcycles of Escondido no later than 3PM on Friday afternoon, December 7th. At 3PM we'll have a quick rider meeting then we'll be on our way toward the Tecate border crossing. For anyone that lives a little further south you can plan on meeting us at the gas station just before the Tecate border crossing at before 5PM. You'll be responsible for gassing up your bike here before we head across the border for Rancho Santa Veronica where we'll have some dinner and stay the night. The next morning we'll have an early breakfast and get on the trail with a goal of making it to Mike's before sunset. Mike's Sky Ranch will be providing dinner and breakfast the next morning but if you wish to wet your whistle at the bar please bring some cash as you are responsible for your own alcohol consumption. The route will consist of a few water crossings, possibly mud pits, and some sandy sections that will test your ability to handle your bike. On our pre-ride of the route, these did not pose much of a problem for a GS Adventure with the standard Tourance tires. However, things can very easily change in the nearly 2 months we have until the ride. For this reason, we HIGHLY recommend knobby tires for any bike coming along on the ride. Failure to heed this warning will probably result in you and other riders consistently picking your bike up off the ground. We will have our chase truck following us the entire ride carrying water, snacks, tools, first aid, spares, communications and your luggage that you don't want weighing you down on the trail. Please plan on only bringing one soft bag to put in the truck so that we can fit everything in the truck. The total cost for this ride is $315. This will cover all of the costs incurred while in Mexico which includes food, fuel, and hotels. The gas stop on the U.S. side of the border will be the last place you will be expected to fill up your motorcycle at your expense until we cross back over into the U.S. Once we cross the border into Mexico we will take care of all other food and fuel costs as long as you stay with our group. If you want to go off exploring on your own it will become your responsibility to cover the costs incurred. Our goal is to present a fun yet challenging ride that everyone can enjoy and we think this ride certainly will meet those expectations. Please RSVP with Rick Johns and get your spot reserved by December 1st! Email: rjohns@bmwmcescondido.com
