Here is MY Comm Setup (wireless/bluetooth option)
Boston Mangler posted a topic in Equipment & Technical Forum
Hey Guys I got the RR setup. Although super stout, and well proven rugged, just too much cables and such for me. Broke my neck 2 years ago, and even though i have heard from a bunch of people that they disconnect easy in a dismount, the thought of having something connecting my head to the bike just weirds me out... Yeah, i'm a freak, so be it.. My Goal/Wants out of this system is the following: -Streaming Music from iPhone with good quality (not Bowers level good, but good for me) -My own ear buds to fit comfortable in my big Dumbo ears -PTT cancels music and returns to music after done talking -Turn by turn directions if i so choose (google maps via phone) -Wireless Here is what i did (thanks to Vacman for the tips) Anyway.. Since replacing my helmet after the big crash, i started with brand new Shoei VFX-W, since the last one fit like a glove and saved my life, i figured a repeat. I wanted everything as small and unobtrusive as possible. For the Helmet comm, i went with the Sena SMH10R: http://www.sena.com/product/intercoms/smh10r/ I then added the little chingadora plug to use my own earbuds instead of the big annoying helmet speakers: http://www.sena.com/product/accessories/earbud-adapter-cable/ To get the phone and the radio working together happily i used the SR10 Bluetooth 2 Way Radio Adapter: http://www.sena.com/product/product/sr10/ I then got the jumper for the SR10 to the Baofung: http://www.sena.com/product/accessories/2-way-radio-cable-for-kenwood-twin-pin-connector/ The basic gist is: Plug the radio into the SR10, the SR10 connects via bluetooth to the SMH10R headset, and to my phone. The PTT button on the handlebars cancels out the streaming Bieber jams from my phone, and activates the comms. Incoming comms also cancel out music. Once conversation is over, music comes back. Just finished putting it all together, put radio, SR10, and phone in my tankbag and went into yard with my helmet on. Music is crystal clear and sounds great. Havent tested actually talking to someone via radio yet, but everything appears to be working great! The ONLY downside i see to this setup, is the PTT assembly is pretty flimsy compared to the RR or PCI stuff. I got a spare and will keep it with me. I might have a electronics nerd buddy try to just wire the SR10 style connector onto a RR switch and call it good. Time will tell how this all works, but for now, i am stoked, and looking forward to it. Any questions or comments, lemme know Here are some pics. Thanks -

Did you see his confrontation in Dakar last year? HIs nickname "Ballistic" is for a reason, hehehehe Everyone has their moments, but they blew it way out of proportion and made him look like a bad evil american! -

The newest, latest greatest TTs are approacing a Mil! Seriously.. Crazyiness! When Andy Mac was racing (I pitted for them and Ickler/Sourapas), i got to go for a ride in his TT (Robby Gs old one) during prerunnning. Was to this day one of the coolest motorsports experiences i have EVER had! I still have a love for the C1 cars though! I REALLY hope BJ kicks some butt in Dakar this year.. Last year was really odd... I liked his old paint scheme better.. -

Yeah... I know it won't be "ideal" but the way i had it setup yesterday seemed OK. Will be testing it tonight with a buddy. In top of the Wolfman tankbag i punched a tiny hole, the antenna coming out of the top front of the bag, pointing up. I will try to snap a pic later. I also wrap the radio and SR10 in a towel, to help prevent accidental keying and what not. I'm not too concerned with having a big range, IF i need to, i can remove it all from bag pretty easily. I don't need/want my Phone, for any "Phone" related things, ie calls and such, but i always have to have some sort of music, background noise when i am riding. Been doing it for years, and feels really weird without it, especially on longer rides. As for the cables, yeah, i am sure it is a non issue, as many have told me that, i think its more of just a mental thing for me. Piece of mind really. Thanks for input -

I bluetoothed both the phone and the SMH10 to the SR10 (that's what its for). Seems to work great. But haven't had an actually radio check yet. Leaving the music off isn't an option. If i rode without music, i would probably end up upside down in a bush. How is yours setup? Thanks -
Yeah, big convoluted mess

Some racer buddies of mine swear by this stuff in their stupid expensive fancy motors. I've never used it, but many swear by it!

Have some info? Desiree Bates, who is big time into the Fight for Ocotillo stuff posted it earlier.. About all i have. She is in the know more than most

Ok... Last 2 rides i have been on have had similar results, so i figured i should open my fat mouth.. Riding in heat requires preperation.. Results of heat stroke and similar can be pretty severe. For those that know me, i am a fatty, out of shape, and don't work out. Yet i am always outlasting (or at least not complaining of headaches or fatigue mid/end) folks on hot rides, and feeling ok after them. Because i prep! Last 2 rides i have been on have been fairly warm, and more than one person on each ride didn't even have/bring water.. Happened again today, to someone in our group, we all advised him to bring water, and got the standard "i'm good" End of ride he looked freaking ill... Most of the supermoto races we did we always in the summer in +100 degree temps, why? not sure, but they were. 100-110 degrees in a full leather suit.. Here is what i do, and recommend to prep, if i know i am riding in hot weather the next day: -Start hydrating the day before, minimum 1 gallon -Sodium in the AM. Some do Beef Jerky, some take salt pills, myself, i almost always eat a Mountain House Beef Stroganoff first thing in the AM. Has lots of Sodium and calories, and will provide you the energy and water retention you need. -Continuously drink water throughout the day, even when you aren't thirsty. I force myself to hit the camelback at least once every 5 minutes, even if i don't want to. -Bring Extra, someone is bound to not have any (never fails). Of course this is just my opinion, and what works for me. Everyone is different, but PLEASE bring water when you ride, and don't take the heat lightly! If you are feeling light headed during your ride, don't push it, stop and tell someone you need to take a break. Opinions/Advice of anyone is welcome! DISCLAIMER: I am not a doctor, but loading up on Sodium if you have high blood pressure might kill ya

Exactly! Agreed! I use Water Wetter (same as engine ice) and have for years in many bikes that see heavy abuse. Zero Issues! Drain the "Coolant", this isnt 2007 and dump in the premixed Engine Ice or Water Wetter. It really does work.

Riding In The Heat! My Two Cents!
Boston Mangler replied to Boston Mangler's topic in Open Discussion
Yeah.. Everyone is different, but I don't know many folks that actually have good luck with Gatorade! I have an iron stomach and Gatorade is one of the few things that messes it up! I have a few friends that race desert stuff and swear by Pedialtye also.. Stuff is EXPENSIVE! Beef Jerky, or sodium filled freeze dried foods seen to do the trick for me and are cheap.
