Corral Canyon - Sat Apr 20th
socaltrailrider replied to xr650lnoob's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
Looks like you guys had a fun ride. Went to a Marine Corp fund raiser Friday night at the shooting range and stayed longer than I had planned so wasn't able to get the bike loaded up and gear ready. Hopefully catch the next one. -

How many miles are you planning on riding? Easy trails or technical? Ready to ride at 8? Never been to CC,thinking about driving down to check it out if I can get up early enough.... -

100% friendly for the Strom. See you there! Great, I'm going to try and clear my Sunday and head down. I might just take the 79 after lunch through Temecula and back over Ortega due to time/distance since I'm coming from OC. -

Is everything Weestrom(Vstrom 650) friendly? I'm not a noob to the dirt, but definitely am on the big bike. Would like to go out and get it dirty. -
Even though the difference in weight rolling my 525 around the garage or picking it up off the ground is extremely noticeable versus my 300, the seat of the pants difference while riding is even more.

It's funny how the Obama administration keeps telling me I need to worry about what Mitt did with his money. I'm more worried about what they are doing with mine!

Just my 2 cents, I'd spend the extra $ and get a better unit. If you're going to do organized dual sport rides, having the color screen is a benefit since you will be able to see the tracks better. Sometimes, the tracks are in different colors to denote hard/easy ways, etc. Here is a good price on a 76cx: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_11151_10001_435018_-1?cid=sc_google&creative=9472573204&gclid=CNHL7d_h4K8CFQQbQgod6jH-CA I like the 76 better than the 60. It's a little larger, but it has a more secure ram mount. Also, I think Topo maps on the unit are almost worthless. Screen is too small to really see anything. Topo is good when planning routes on the computer though. I'd go with a version of Roads & Recreation. Garmin doesn't make it anymore, but you can find them used on advrider or ebay quite often.

Nice report. I'd like to get out that way sometime and do some camping on the Wee. -
Quick ride on the Wee
socaltrailrider posted a topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
So, I had some free time today so I took the Wee out for a spin to see how it liked dirt. They were just forest service roads, but still dirt. Here's some pics from the ride. Heading out towards the canyon Got through the little town of Silverado and started going up the paved section of the service road. Now, we hit the dirt. Stopped to take a few pics and enjoy the view before heading back down Hey, my bike got dirty! Heading back into Silverado for lunch And of course the food shot -

LOL, I was going to ask him about removing that as well, and was hoping it wouldn't offend!

Thanks for the input everyone. Looks like it will be worth a drive down there to check it out.

I just picked up a Weestrom and need to put together some gear. Being in Southern CA, the challenge is staying cool, while providing good protection. I hear the Motoport gear is great for that, but it sure is expensive. I'm fine with paying the price when it's worth it. Being that they are local, I was hoping some members on here have experience with the gear that they could share. Mainly in comfort, wear and breathability. Any input would be great. Thanks!

There was a set of these on the 300 that I bought. My experience is the same, I really liked the tire. It's a bonus that they are DOT legal.
