  2. Stewards of the Sierra National Forest are planning their 7th Annual Fundraiser for the weekend of July 8, 9, 10. The fundraiser dinner will again be held at the Elks Lodge in Oakhurst, Ca on Saturday night July 9th. Optional (at no charge) are the two day (July 9-10) dual sport ride and new for this years fundraiser a 3 day (July 8-10) Adventure Bike Ride. Actually Adv Bike riders can choose to ride only 2 days if they prefer. The Dual Sport portion will include most of the trails of the famous Bass Lake 250 which was voted one of the top ten dual sport events a few years back by Dirt Bike Magazine. The Adv Bike routes will be separate from the dual sport routes and feature fun and scenic routes each day. At the end of day one (Fri July 8th), riders will be welcomed to Rancho Relaxo, home of Susan and Larry Langley, for a pleasant evening including showers, camping and a optional BBQ dinner. Rancho Relaxo is located in the Sierra Foothills just 20 miles South of Yosemite National Park. Adv Riders will depart Sat morning for a great day of riding which ends at the fundraising headquarters at the Oakhurst Elks Lodge where they will participate in the fundraiser dinner and festivities. For more information as it develops please log on to the Stewards website at www.sotsnf.org or Facebook Stewards of the Sierra National Forest.
  3. Hi everyone, I'd like to invite you to the Bass Lake area the weekend of July 19/20 for the 2014 edition of the Stewards of the Sierra NF fundraiser. Stewards are the hard working people who keep the trails open and clear. A lot of very hard work but they are enthusiasts like you. Please attend to enjoy a great dual sport ride and a fantastic dinner with lots of door prizes. Hope to see you there. Ask Crawdaddy just how good the riding is here. 4. Got a call from SDAR's own Randy Lazar, he's on a 11 day adventure ride on his 950 KTM Adventure and was in the area. I gave him directions to Rancho Relaxo and he showed up yesterday afternoon and spent the night. Had a great time trading stories. I cooked up my good old "meat loaf" burgers last night and we headed over to Bass Lake this morning and had a nice breakfast at Ducey's overlooking the lake. He took off later this morning heading for Yosemite and then to Placerville to visit another friend. Good to see you Randy and we've got to ride together soon!
  5. Only 5 weeks to go! Sign up now for the best single track, scenic jeep roads and awesome roads within sight of Yosemite!
  6. Wow, the very mild winter has left us with NO snow so the Stewards of the Sierra National Forest are out cutting the fallen trees on our trail system to insure you that you will have an awesome ride at our annual Fundraiser on July 13/14. Bass Lake 250 morphed into the Stewards ride! You like great scenery, fun two tracks and awesome single track? Of course you do, come on up and ride the Central Calif. premier dual sport event. July 13/14 and it's my birthday also!
  7. Did the CDR back in '08, did it in Aug (middle). Pretty good weather then, only got one day of really heavy rain. Temps were better than July. But who know? Hope you can make it up here, single track trails far better than CDR which is mostly fire roads (but still a great ride).
  8. July 13/14 out of the Elks Lodge in Oakhurst, Ca. Dual Sporting at it's finest (ask Crawdaddy!). See attached flyer 2013 Flyer.pdf
  9. Great writeup and great trip! I've been to most of those places, thanks for the pics!
  10. Randy Meade is still coming, you guys should hook up! OK riding with smaller groups, you can get out of the dust. Haven't seen such a dry summer/fall in the years we've been here.
  11. Stewards of the Sierra National Forest 4th Annual Membership Drive, BBQ Fundraiser & Optional Dual Sport Adventure Elks Lodge in Oakhurst California October 13 & 14 2012 Temporarily Postponed Till July 2013 Due to Record Setting Heat and Extreme Dangerous Fire Conditions Just a quick note to say Thank You to all of you who have already signed up for the Stewards of the Sierra National Forest 4th Annual Membership Drive, BBQ Fundraiser, and Optional Dual Sport Adventure that was scheduled to be held in Oakhurst California on October 13-14, 2012 at the Oakhurst Elks Lodge. Due to the Record Setting High Temperatures in September and now going into October with no chance of rain in sight we felt it would be better to postpone the event to a later date in 2013 when better ground conditions exist. Because of the extreme late intense heat and tinder dry conditions the Sierra National Forest has issued an EXTREME FIRE DANGER ALERT for the Sierra National Forest. We have not had any rain and the ground conditions for our Optional Dual Sport Adventure would be extremely dusty. I would like to personally apologize to all of you for any inconvenience this date change may cause. For those of you who have sent in your registration forms and donations we have not deposited any of your donations yet. I will be contacting each and every one of you personally to see how you would like your donation to be handled. We do ask you to consider leaving the donation in place to help the Stewards keep your favorite roads and trails open for you and your families enjoyment. If this is not possible we will be more than happy to send it back. Thank You in advance for your understanding in the date change due to the conditions on the ground and for all of your public support in helping to keep Public Lands Open To The Public Not From The Public. Thanks for your support. Mike Wubbels Executive Director Stewards of the Sierra National Forest 2011 National Volunteer Trail Group of the Year USDA/USFS www.sotsnf.org info@sotsnf.org

  13. ALERT! ALERT! AlERT! The Sierra National Forest has extended the comment period for the 007 Motorized Trail Project to August 3, 2012. Why? Because the email address the forest provided to send comments too was incorrect and not working so if you sent comments to the original email address provided by the forest THEY DID NOT RECEIVE THEM!!!! What to do!! Resend your comments to the correct address which is comments-pacificsouthwest- sierra@fs.fed.us. Please enter 007 Project in the subject line. As a backup Cc your comments to Judy Tapia at jetapia@fs.fed.us. If you did not send in comments here is your chance. We have provided some key points that we feel are important to provide a high quality motorized OHV trail. Take a few minutes, use your own words, and email your comments to the addresses provided above. Your single comment may be the difference in whether we get to keep this great trail or lose it forever! Key Points I support Alternative 3 with minor changes. Change the lower section of the 007 trail to a 50” trail for both motorcycle and ATV quads. Change the section of trail called Black Oak Ridge to a 50” trail for both motorcycle and ATV quads. Allow for unrestricted two-way traffic. Follow wet weather closure used for the Central Camp road. I agree with the need for the realignments in Alternative 3, but the restriction of travel to one way as described in the EA will cause a greater safety issue on the Central Camp road by forcing the OHV rider to travel up and down the road to get to a trail entry point. Proper brushing and trail improvements will address any potential safety concerns for two- way traffic on the trail. The Forest has recognized that multiple funding opportunities for trail maintenance can come from various sources and volunteer groups so economics should not be elevated to an issue. Alternative 4 does not provide a quality motorized experience for the OHV user. This would increase the traffic on the Central Camp road and raise the risk of accidents.
  14. Sent to Linda McPhail Dear Linda, I would like to comment on the plans for Trail 007. I actually opened up this trail back around 1990 as a route on the High Sierra Dual Sport Ride out of Huntington Lake. I was riding up 6S42 when I noticed a USFS sign hidden in the bushes. I believe it was tagged as 6S42G if I remember correctly. The trail was unused and overgrown but I cleared it enough to ride and our event used it. Then some mountain bikers discovered it and named it 007. The "trail" itself I believe is part of the original road up to Central Camp and has been in existence for many years. The trail is a very popular route for dual sport motorcyclists as it routes them off of the main road (6S42) and has been for many years. The mountain bike community has also used it and at one time ran a downhill race on it for a few years. When the original SNF plan came out two years ago I was mystified why 007 only allowed motorcycle use approximately 1/2 way down. This was unacceptable and did not make sense. A trail that has been in use for over 20 years and actually beyond that and all of a sudden there are issues? 007 should be opened back up for use by motorcyclists. It can be adopted by an organization such as Stewards of the Sierra National Forest to maintain and provide labor to fix any litigation problems. I would suggest Alt 3 without the "every other day" up or down use. Single track only at the bottom portion is fine with me. The whole trail is really considered single track anyway. There really is no reason to close 007 to motorcyclists as it has been used for over 20 years without any real damage. Thank you for your consideration. Larry Langley PO Box 1488 North Fork, Ca 93643
